I get Eminem has “Stans” that just think everything he do is perfect and they think he’s the best rapper alive, but that doesn’t mean we discredit him for all the good he has done in hip-hop. In someways I think Eminem is still extremely underrated. I’m not saying you have to be a fan of yours by any means there’s lots of rappers that work their ass off and that are very good at their craft but maybe their style isn’t for me But that doesn’t mean I just shit on them and talk shit. Dude is one of the top-tier lyricist ever in the game and no one wants to give him credit for the hits he’s produced as a producer and I know rap labels started by rappers under a parent company only have 4 to 6 years when they first start that they are putting out platinum and gold everything. After that I don’t care if it’s shady records, death Row records, no limit records, G unit records, bad boy records, lynch mob records, The first 46 years their labor will be on fire and then as the main artist popularity starts fading down so does the label. At least give Eminem credit for all the people he put on. Rappers, producer/beat makers, writers, there are a lot of rich African Americans today that are in the position they are in because Eminem put them on or put the guy on that put them on. D12, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Obie Trice , Royce da 5’9”, Boogie, Ca$his, and put a main stage light on Slaughterhouse. On top of that he is one of the few label hands Dearing the mumble rap phase that said fuck that shit I’m going to keep signing and working with real emcees. Not saying you have to suck his dick or anything I’ll be his number one fan but at least give the guy props where he deserves it. Great video man. Awesome.

I'd argue that Jeff Bass is one of the most underrated producers. Why? Because it is he who inspired Em's production. Em's production style follows from the Funky Bass Brothers, and Jeff Bass has produced my favourite Em songs. Every song where Em gets introspective, and deep, it's almost always on a Jeff Bass production. Dre produced most of his dance tracks. Kim, Rock Bottom, Marshal Mathers, Lose Yourself, Cleaning Out My Closet, Sing For The Moment, Superman, Criminal and many others were produced by Jeff and Mark Bass. Even songs like Em's produced The Way I Am, Renegade and Patiently Waiting, they all sound like Jeff Bass made it. The Bass Brothers were a huge influence on Em's production style.

The only reason Em ever was/is considered underrated as a producer is because 99.9% of fans had no idea Em ever produced anything until fairly recently. Most people knew about the Pac album and that he produced one or two tracks here and there. That's basically the only reason, people didn't know he produced like 80% of the beats on his first 4 albums alone. They always assume Dre made every single beat.

Yes, Ems skin color played a HUGE part in his success. However, his studious nature of the game, respect for the past Emcees and immense talent can't be taken away from him. I think his skin color allowed him to be the biggest selling rapper, but not that alone. No other white boy is NEAR ems success for a reason.
@infernus24384 жыл бұрын
Em's skin color didn't make him popular or sell the most units, his talent & Dre's recognition did. The reason people checked Eminem's SSLP out was because of the production credit, back in the day it mattered a lot who's the producer and you know how Dre's rep was (and still is) around this kind of shit, and when some people listened to it and heard the shit he was saying and how he said it and how his music stood out between the rest, made more people listen to it and that gained him free marketing, leading to MMLP then TES and that's how his legacy was built, Him being white just played a minor part in that and the reason I'm saying this is because of what you said as well and what Em himself even said on the song Kamikaze: "But if the only reason I blowed is 'cause I'm white though Why don't every other white rapper sell what I sold?" .
@worldtree20274 жыл бұрын
Selling music is largely based on promotion, image, and marketability. That’s why artists like Cardi B and Post Malone can easily outsell a Rakim or Royce Da 5’9. It doesn’t have a place in arguments about musicians directly but could be used as a tactic to discuss who has a more favorable image to middle class citizens considering that’s who both has the time and money to purchase music free of hesitation. For me it’s like discussing tickets sold for movies, or copies sold for games, and books. For example an authors name or brand name might have the promotion and presentation to move way more units than a better game by a set criteria e.g. Madden or 2K. Good thing about art is it’s subjective, so you can have conversations about it all day but while staying true to a feasible criteria and perception based on your knowledge of the field.

@@worldtree2027 I think when Elite SKILLS, meet 21 years of Longevity, meet The Top Selling ARTIST of the Century Globally (14th all-time per Chartmasters.org) Only Artist with 10 Consecutive #1 albums. Only Artist with 10 Albums getting 1 BILLION Spotify Streams. Etc. That proves an ability to make quality music that's appealed to 3 generations of music fans, and keep them. Em stopped being a big surprise, and all "shiny and new," back in 02. He was Literally not seen for a year, dropped a surprise MTBMB (no singles or promotion after) and had one of the biggest opening weeks of 2020. While Mega Popstars who ruled last decade, like Katy Perry, just sold 50K. My point is, you can used Cardi B and Post Malone if you think they'll still be charting #1 in 2038, but we both know they won't be.

@@JustMe-mo6xk They probably will they probably won’t, Bob Dylan never sold that much and he’s actively listed as the greatest musician of all-time with Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. I just would never include something that heavily depends on image, marketability, and promotion. Madden will always sell a lot of copies and it’s been a running game for years, pretty sure it has one of the lowest reception scores out there. Same is for every field of art.
@JustMe-mo6xk4 жыл бұрын
@@worldtree2027 Madden is the Only officially licensed NFL game, so it owns the market. I think ur point is better used to keep artists who haven't sold well in the greats debate, than applying it to reduce artists who have achieved True Global Icon Status. When a grandmother in India, China, Africa, etc likely knows an artists name (like MJ, Em, The Beatles) success is not an irrelevant part of their legacy. That level is an incredibly rare achievement, that they worked decades to earn, and therefore should factor. Imo ppl only started discrediting success cuz Em's Elite in skills, areas he's competed in (battle rap, features), earned A goat status from 99% rappers, has influenced, has the classic albums/songs, etc, AND is the 2nd most awarded Male Artist after only Michael Jackson, AND has the sales. It made debating the greatest extremely difficult.
