@Cuddly-Cactus13 сағат бұрын
@GBLtheMOTH That sounds exactly like an old TV commercial for Gain laundry detergent. Only the wife never actually consumed the detergent, instead the husband drove to the store to get the bottle of detergent to bring home for his wife just so she could smell it. "My wife had a pregnancy craving for the scent of Gain laundry detergent," was a line in that commercial. Also, having cravings for inedible items is known as Pica and gets it's name from a bird species, the Eurasian magpie (the formal Latin name for that species is Pica pica). This bird has a reputation for eating unusual objects. And this disorder is seen in people that have iron deficiency, certain mental disorders and people that are pregnant.

In italy you pay for lunch too in advance unless you're extra poor. I remember hearing a case of a child who wasn't given lunch because the family was behind on payments and the teachers scraped food to not let him go hungry and the parents argued it's incredibly disgusting to not feed a child because he's behind on paying for lunches. It wasn't even that the parents didn't care. They were struggling with money.
@DSoSJohnHКүн бұрын
Sht like that should be illegal everywhere. I think if a child goes without food in school, whether they have money or not, should be reported as child abuse and child neglect against the school and the school should be fined 10,000x the cost of what it would have been for that $2.00 lunch... per child that goes without food. I say this from someone who went hungry for a day because I wasn't informed by the lunch staff that I had ran out of money in my account the prior day. A third grader, an 8 year old. I went home not only with an empty stomach but a severe migraine because I had no food. My family was not happy about that, nor was I for having a migraine.
@damiancrowley569Күн бұрын
@@DSoSJohnHI completely agree, and those bag lunches they gave that was two slices of bread with a piece of cheese. Fucking awful. Out of anything, tax payers shouldn't be against a single meal per kid being part of education budget. Not only the basic humanity of it, but it benefits everybody when people get good educations and having high energy and nutrition helps kids stay alert, concentrate, and better brain function in general.

That no longer happens in Massachusetts. Lunch is provided regardless of lunch debt and there are no longer any consequences if you cannot pay your lunch debt. If you can pay, pay, so they can fund those who can't. That was the federal policy in 2021 during Covid, but it was popular in Massachusetts, so the state raised taxes on the wealthy to pay for it. And my kids go to a public school that's as good as the great private school I went to as a kid despite living in a middle class town. We've got plenty of problems with our political system, but it's still WAY better living in a blue state.

I feel like we need to get rid of the mentality that you can’t like something because “it’s for babies.” I had so much of feeling that as a kid to the point where it sometimes made me feel shame for liking things or having liked things in the past. And getting shamed for watching or even enjoying something because “it’s for babies”- often based on an arbitrary standard by people who don’t know what they’re talking about. I remember getting picked on in Grade 4 by classmates who were convinced I was too old to enjoy the Muppets. My thought now if someone were to say “it’s for babies” is to say something like “what’s your point?” So what if you’re not the intended demographic for a show or a book or whatever? If it’s well-made that shouldn’t matter. If anything, a show/book managing to unexpectedly find an audience outside it’s intended demographic just means its really good. And hey, a well-made kids show can be great for de-stressing. Think about it, they’re usually short, have stories that are easy to follow, and even if there’s a large cast overall, the core group of characters is usually pretty small and easy to keep track of. It’s a nice change in an era where nearly every non-kids show is trying to be the next Game of Thrones.

You could literally just go and buy books of sheet music of the most popular songs at the time, kinda like buying one of those "Top Hits" CDs back in the early 00's. To answer Robin's question, yes you would have to go hear it performed, but it was easy to buy the sheet music, you really just needed to find and pay someone talented enough to play it properly (not an easy task with Moonlight Sonata).

I was a local in the area. The Australian Prime Minister who famously went missing was *_Harold Holt_* . He disappeared on *_December 17, 1967_* , while swimming at Cheviot Beach near Portsea, Victoria. Holt was a strong swimmer, but rough conditions and powerful ocean currents were present that day. Despite an extensive search involving police, navy divers, and helicopters, his body was never found. His disappearance sparked numerous conspiracy theories, including speculation about a possible defection to China or abduction by a submarine, but the most widely accepted explanation is that he drowned. Holt’s disappearance remains one of Australia's most intriguing political mysteries.

There IS no U.S. medical system any more than y'all having a caviar system. You have medical ANARCHY. My (partial) theory on the sleeping at night versus sleeping during the day is that at night, you feel pressured to sleep because your *supposed* to sleep at night and that pressure keeps you awake but during the day that pressure is *gone* and that's so freeing it lets you relax.

Cool for Robin that he doesn't need a self-driving car. As a blind person (using a screenreader to read/write online) I'd really like the ability to have some degree of independence in my transportation. Same with how he condemns all AI, but AI image recognition is the one thing keeping me from opening a big can of cat food when I mean to open up a can of something else entirely with which to make dinner. That and many of its other disability-focused uses that get ignored when people like this just blanket disapprove of things 'cause "I don't need it." I'm glad you don't, I hope you never have to end up in a place where you need it, and if you ever are, I hope more thoughtful minds than yours have prevailed in making such things available, because even if you don't think anyone should have a thing that you don't need, you are still a human and I hope you would be treated with the compassion and empathy you should show others. Anyway, sorry for the rant, I honestly do enjoy your content and narration style, but that's just one point that keeps popping up in the videos you narrate, and since this won't really get seen by anyone, it's mostly just me venting a recurring frustration in vane. So have a lovely day, keep making great videos, and just consider that a world of others' needs exists beyond your own.

So an Amish farmer could have something like a tracker but wouldn't have something like a car, there are even Amish people with computers that have their own website. So it's less about technology and more about keeping themselves occupied with work and focused to try and prevent sin.

0:23 I can say that in my hometown of Clarksville Tennessee, the city got its first roundabout and people named it Rhonda. People also set up cameras to see people doing what I believe were just laps around the roundabout until the police eventually blocked off some part or made it basically impossible to do laps. Funny though how my town reacted to one roundabout being built.

I actually relate to the "seeing Netflix's top 10 list" thing, but not because I have better taste, I just don't watch most live action series or movies that the rest of my country does. I'm more into the animated movies that are usually for kids or families. But you know, I appreciate some adult animation too, like Green Snake (a Chinese movie, pretty good)

4:24 So... The cake is a lie?
@Asmodis422 сағат бұрын
baker here, mostly EVERY expensive cake is a lie. as an example in 15 years i only made TWO wedding cakes as so called "full cakes" wich means you could eat EVERYTHING no matter where you sliced it and BOTH weddings was the local "rich folk". you know, car dealership, onwers of a private hospital etc. normaly you have a section that IS real cake for the groom and bride to cut and eat or do naugthy things with it (i dont judge) the whole REST of the cake is some sort of decoy to make it LOOK like a cake, the cake the guests gets are mostly from a baking tray wich makes it cheaper and easier.

In the 90s, my recently divorced father and I, a preteen, were bacheloring it up. One holiday, my dad went to work and left me with $5 to get some McD's down the street for lunch. I found out, at lunch time, that the McD's was closed for the holiday. The only other restaurant open around our apartment complex was a Rafferty's, I think. Anyway, a mid-level, sit-down style restaurant. I went in and asked the hostess what I could get for $5. Those absolute legend young ladies were so sweet, got me a burger and fries to go, and sent me on my way, food in hand and $5 in my pocket. That was over 30 years ago and I still get choked up thinking of their kindness, feeding a hungry kid a $15 lunch who had but $5 to his name.

I'm a postal worker. Many of our routes are walking routes, and I can tell you, the distance would be nothing to a horse. The problem is not having enough room to put everything. But if there were no packages, this would 100% be doable.

You reminded me of our old tradition when we were a family (parents divorced nothing scary happened). But on Sundays we used to go to the mall or ikea or the airport as a family outing. Then before 2011 when the place got flooded and just shut down permanently, on our way back my parents would go rent a movie and we had movie afternoon. Dad would hand the movie back later before dinner. This place was totally automated too. It wasn't a blockbuster because we're Italians but it was such a fun time. Sometimes they'd pick movies for all of us and sometimes movies that were more mature. Like action films type mature. I know the biggest library in town has movie rentals but god I wish this could come back as a thing. We might go with mom and see how it works as I believe it's not managed by the library system in my city but self managed.

Nice! I missed the boat on the Warriors/Warrior Cats series originally but have been reading it for 2 years now and in my 30s Even though they’re meant mainly for older children, at the same time, I think adults can quite enjoy them as well!

Oh nice! I just started reading Warrior Cats just a few years ago myself, and now I’m about halfway through the fifth arc (the prequel one in Dawn of the Clans) and I have been loving it I didn’t buy the first two arcs myself because I didn’t know if I was going to actually fully enjoyed or not, but turns out I have so I have all the arcs after that now in Power of Three, Omen of the Stars, Dawn of the Clans, A Vision of Shadows, The Broken Code, A Starless Clan, and now book 1 of the newest arc (Changing Skies), The Elders’ Quest So yeah, sounds like I will definitely not be running out of books to read for a while because I am absolutely hooked on this here series!

I scoffed at the movie at 7am until I remembered one time at uni I was drinking with my mid-week anime club friends. It was last orders in our fave pub and one guy wanted to stay out more so I joined him and so did another lass. We went 30 secs to another place and were there till 1pm or something. We went back to his, played Silent hill, then watched the movie. My friend and I left after the sun rose and it was 7am. We hadn't slept in 24hrs and she had a lecture in 2 hrs.

3:27 Kinda random but if you're looking for a "whimsical" magic book check out Cradle by Will Wight, easily my favorite book. It's an underdog story of a boy born with a "magic deficiency" as he some how survives with a lot of luck. That's a very brief summary meant to avoid spoilers, check it out.

@6:00 yeah man, those teenage years... At the dinner table (this was before smart phones and tablets), i'd be relaying to my parents what went down at school or with my friends. 5 minutes into the story, my dad would be like, "Who's Dave again?" My mom and I would both roll our eyes and go, "Dave's the [lawyer's kid/theatre kid/guy dating Mindy/whatever trait that is unique about Dave]." Sometimes, my dad would ask, "Isn't that Josh?" To which both my mom and I would roll our eyes again and go, "No, Josh is the [insert identifiable trait of Josh]." Sometimes, there's a lightbulb moment and dad would confirm by providing additional details about the kid. More often than not, dad would just go, "uh huh," nod, and go back to his food, but we can tell he still haven't got a clue who Dave or Josh or Mindy was.

3:35 kid's books - whimsy, fun Y.A books - more real, but still fun and whimsical adult books - very grounded, but it's for a grounded audience _adult_ books - 99% of the time [even in the good ones] it's just the author's desires/fetishes {this is speaking as an outsider, i've never read any}

I'll admit it -- in a perfect utopia world, where self-driving cars were ACTUALLY good and flawless and didn't have all the shitty problems they have today? I _would_ be 10000% interested in self-driving cars. Why? I always have to beat back panic attacks any time I drive; I just physically CANNOT stand driving, it terrifies me so much. My therapist said that my fear response doesn't _quite_ meet the level required for it to be a phobia, but god _damn_ is it close. But I have things I need to do, a job to go to, college classes to attend, and so on. I cannot rely on family/friends to drive me everywhere, and paying for a taxi/Uber would actually cost me more than I earn, so I can't do that either. So I _have_ to drive. I _have_ to suffer multiple panic attacks to go about my day-to-day life. And I _hate_ it; I _hate_ not being able to exist like a normal goddamn person. I hate how, after being properly medicated and having gone through more than a decade of therapy, I'm still _like this._ But you know what I absolutely _despise,_ more than _any_ of that? _Today's self-driving cars._ I would literally rather poke my not-quite-a-phobia of driving in the face daily than put my life in Musty Wusty's hands. I cannot fathom how people trust that dude _or_ his gilded deathtraps.
