15:20 Damien has apparently never had to deal with self-checkouts whose bagging area scales have their warning threshold set finer than their actual precision, so that when you add an item after scanning it, they insist that there's an unexpected item, or that you've removed one.
@AIHumanEquality
@AIHumanEquality Жыл бұрын
Huh. Interesting. I live in Canada and never had a issue with self checkouts the few times I've used them. They're not really prevelant here because the way we do things with employees already works really well so why change it? I've only ever seen self checkouts at Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart. central wisconsin here. i've been pretty fortunate with regards to the scale saying "please return the removed item to the bagging area", but instead have run into something that i still can't comprehend at one of our local grocery stores. ALL produce must be entered by an employee. is it a fruit or vegetable and not already cut, shredded or otherwise prepped in some way? only an employee can scan that. does your produce have a barcode sticker on it? the machine will scan it, refuse it, and say "assistance is required with this item". the employee scans their card, scans the produce, hits "ok", and you can proceed.... until the next produce item.

Then during April fools day one year for a laugh he changed it read “Indian hills annexed by Morrison” or something along those lines. To his surprise and amusement it got a ton of attention with many people even calling the local police trying to verify whether or not it was true. From then on he decided to keep it and would change the message (when there wasn’t an event taking place) to a joke or punny phrase because loved making people smile.

*Grass,* often taken for granted, is a ubiquitous and essential component of our natural environment. It blankets vast landscapes, from manicured lawns to sprawling meadows and rolling prairies. This unassuming plant, though seemingly simple, plays a profound role in our lives and ecosystems. In this essay, we will explore the significance of *grass,* its diverse species, its ecological importance, cultural relevance, and the various ways in which it enriches our world. *Botanical Diversity of Grass* The *grass* family, scientifically known as Poaceae, is one of the most diverse and extensive plant families on Earth. It encompasses over 11,000 species, each uniquely adapted to its environment. *Grasses vary in size, shape, and growth habits, ranging from towering bamboo to the delicate tufts of ornamental grasses in our gardens. Their adaptability allows them to thrive in diverse climates, from the Arctic tundra to the arid deserts, making them a vital component of nearly every terrestrial ecosystem. *Ecological Importance* *Grass*, often regarded as the unsung hero of ecosystems, serves a multitude of ecological functions. Perhaps one of its most critical roles is soil stabilization. *Grasses* have deep, fibrous root systems that help prevent soil erosion, making them instrumental in maintaining the structural integrity of landscapes. Their presence ensures that fertile topsoil is retained, preventing it from being washed away by rain or blown away by wind. Moreover, *grasses* are primary producers in many food chains. They serve as a food source for herbivores, such as deer, bison, and cattle. In turn, these herbivores support carnivores like wolves and big cats. Without the foundational role of grasses, entire ecosystems would unravel, leading to imbalances in biodiversity. Grasslands, characterized by extensive stretches of *grasses,* are home to some of the world’s most iconic and endangered species. The African savanna, for instance, is inhabited by elephants, lions, and giraffes, all of which depend on grasses as a significant part of their diet. Protecting these *grasslands* is crucial for the conservation of these majestic creatures and the preservation of global biodiversity. *Grass and Human Civilization* Human civilization has an intimate relationship with *grass,* dating back thousands of years. Agriculture, one of the most significant developments in human history, relies heavily on *grasses. Wheat, rice, corn, and barley are all grass species that form the foundation of our food supply. These crops have sustained populations, shaped economies, and influenced cultures around the world. Furthermore, *grasses* have shaped the way we live, particularly in the context of our built environments. Lawns, often composed of *grass species like Kentucky bluegrass and Bermuda grass, are a staple of suburban life. They provide aesthetically pleasing landscapes for recreation and relaxation, fostering a sense of connection to nature in urbanized areas. *Cultural Significance* *Grass* has found its way into the cultural tapestry of many societies. In ancient civilizations, *grass was used for various purposes, including thatching roofs, weaving baskets, and crafting mats. Native American cultures, for example, employed various grasses in the construction of traditional housing, such as tipis and wigwams. Moreover,* grass* has been a source of inspiration for poets and artists. The lush green of a grassy field has symbolized renewal, growth, and vitality in countless works of literature and art. It has been a recurring motif in the pastoral tradition, representing an idyllic countryside where people can escape the hustle and bustle of urban life. *Grass in Modern Society* In contemporary society, *grass* has taken on new roles and challenges. Urbanization and the expansion of infrastructure have led to the fragmentation and destruction of natural grasslands. This loss of habitat threatens countless plant and animal species, some of which are on the brink of extinction. Additionally, the maintenance of lush lawns in urban areas consumes vast quantities of water and chemicals, contributing to environmental issues such as water scarcity and pollution. As we confront the realities of climate change, reevaluating our approach to landscaping, including the use of native grasses and xeriscaping techniques, becomes increasingly important. *Conclusion* In conclusion, the *grass* is far more than just a simple plant that carpets our Earth; it is a cornerstone of ecosystems, a source of sustenance, and a symbol of culture and renewal. Its incredible diversity and adaptability have allowed it to thrive in a wide range of environments, shaping the landscapes we know today. As we move forward, we must recognize the vital role that grass plays in our lives and ecosystems and strive to protect and sustain it for future generations. Whether beneath our feet or stretching across the horizon, the *grass* is a symbol of life and a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things on this planet.

Self checkout at some stores around here are just awful. The tray for the items is super small, it doesn't let you put your own bags on the tray to put your items in. If you need to bag the items before being done due to lack of space for more items, it doesn't like that. This store also has "rebates" they put on products about to "expire" (like 30% on a packet of meat), but it's not an automatic rebate that replaces the barcode like Walmart. You HAVE to ask the staff to apply the rebate. Else you're paying full price even though it should be discounted. Some stores do selfcheckout properly. Others are just failing hard at it...

3:20 I think they need to add adult versions of playgrounds that are open to people of specific age ranges. Like an easier version of ninja warrior. Currently the only way to stay in shape is to stay stationary lifting weights, or going on multiple walks in the forest where there isn't many people.

7:58 well of course you'd need to note down the money and compare it to the number of people of each religion that saw him, because obviously buddhists aren't gonna have as much money because even if they do give out more money, there's way less of them than with other religions. Since he isn't gonna be able to get the religious background of every person that looks at him, I guess taking a look at the city population of wherever he's at would give a good estimate.

No translation needed for that boba tea. Around 2005-2006 I use to read this webcomic. And I swear that’s her comic. They were all in that style of drawing and had the same sort of inappropriate joke. I think it might actually be one of the comics. But I haven’t read it in nearly 20 years so I can’t remember the damn name of the strip

Whenever I hear about jumping off a swing as a kid, I'm always reminded of the one time I landed upright with my foot, erm... *beneath* me. Even worse, it was a tall swing so I had even more height before the landing. Had to lay there for a hot minute. I can't imagine how bad it woulda been if I was a guy, I probably woulda passed out
