Morrison and whedons X-men runs, which a lot of her storyline is pulled from, happened after the 90s cartoon. Emma is extremely powerful, not as much as the likes of Professor X, Jean Grey or apparently Shadow King but she is the most skilled telepath in the world. She has full command of every psionic inch of her powers so she comes out on top in telepathic combat over everyone even Professor X.

But as you said Jeans potential was unfulfilled, she was heavily restricted and was far more of a telekinetic than a telepath… Emma literally has the knowledge, skill and experience to probably best every telepath in one on one combat due to that combined with the fact that unlike people like Charles, Jean, Rachel or Psylocke, she’s extremely ruthless and has no problem with literally ravaging peoples minds and essentially immediately killing them if she thinks it’s necessary; which is why she’s so dangerous too. She’s such a fascinating character to me and people undervalue and underpower her way too much imo

Jean is more powerful (even without the phoenix) and is an omega level mutant ( her powers are constantly growing, expanding potentially outclassing other psychics and telepaths). Emma I would say is more skilled ( mainly because she utilizes her telepathy alot more and pretty much mastered her telepathic power although she's an Alpha level mutant). Jean is highly skilled and gifted with her telepathy, but I doubt she has mastered her powers and she has not had her telepathy consistently relative to the likes of Emma Frost and Charles Xavier.

In the comics, when Emma Frost gets shattered, Jean spends the time to put every single shattered piece of diamond back together and it revives Emma. Technically, while in Diamond Form, Emma is immortal and cannot die; only incapacitated.(She doesn't require food, water or sleep, but becomes 'cold hearted'). Mr. Sinister uses a fine and powerful laser that blasts her arm off at the bicep while in diamond form and she's still able to function. She reattaches it later, with the help of beast, and is not affected by it(such as physical scarring). I want this show revived dude! So good!

They should have known something was up when she was able to use Cerebro to easily locate Professor X (who was in a coma; not using his powers) but couldn’t locate Jean during the time she was in a coma and not using her powers

Emma's main goal is to find Jean, so supposedly, after finding Xavier and gaining X-Men's trust, Emma would immediately search for Jean under the impression of helping Scott. If she did knew where Jean was, she would have left much earlier. I suspect that after the whole Phoenix Blast, Jean's power were either blocked or the Phoenix completely cloaked Jean, due to it knowing that someone (Emma) wants to destroy it (Emma did try a psychic attack with the cuckoos to unleash and destroy the phoenix.)

No, she's been in the comics for decades. Except in the comics, she starts out as a pure villain, and then makes the switch to being a hero. She was a villain for about 10 years, but she's been a part of the X-men for over 25 years now.

In context, his broken heartedness almost got him and Wolverine done in and in guilt Cyclops decided to quit. In a desperate bid to keep him in the team, Emma offered to erase his memories of Jean to take the pain away.
