Good morning! Just a couple of additional notes from me which were cut from the video because it was already over half an hour long 🙈: There are of course lots of other high street/affordable price point brands that have cashmere collections BUT as always I only wanted to discuss the brands and pieces that I actually own and have experience with. These thoughts and my scores for these brands and their cashmere are all based on my personal experience and opinions, there will always be folks that disagree with me and have had different experiences to myself which is why I always urge you to check out other reviews to get a more thorough insight when making such a big purchase. I would also like to reiterate the point about high street brands and their constantly changing supply chain, whilst I have had mainly positive experiences with the items I have purchased from these brands over the years they may change their supplier at any time and the quality of their garments will then be subject to change, this could be positive but it could also be negative. There are also ethical questions that can be raised with regards to cashmere but I will leave this for you to research if you so choose, I have however left links in the description box (below the video) that you might find useful/informative to learn more about the RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) and the GCS (Good Cashmere Standard) as I mentioned in the video. Thank you for watching and enjoy the rest of your day x

I gotta say, I am already a big fan of you creating these videos with rating systems. I think this is great for me at least to know before I buy. I've recently gotten into cashmere from watching your videos, and I'm loving all the good info you're giving out. The softness factor helps because I am someone who gets very itchy from fabrics. But all of this is good to know! Please do this type of video with your fall/winter coats. I so look forward to watching all your content and videos every week.

I have a Uniqlo cashmere turtleneck and a crew neck one. Love them both. Both bought before the pandemic… maybe in 2018. The turtleneck in particular is so durable and washes really well. I love the thinness of the crewneck because it slips under blazers really well. I prefer a thinner sweater for that reason.

I love that you always give information on sizing and what size you are wearing - it's a really helpful guide when purchasing online and is much appreciated! Re ARKET and COS sizing - I'm 6ft tall and generally buy M or L in jumpers from the women's range from these brands, depending on the cut and what effect/fit I want to achieve. I find that ARKET's L is generally a more generous fit that COS's L with the exception of t-shirts - I don't find either brand's regular fit t-shirts in a size L to be particularly generous in size and often only just fit me across the shoulders. The oversized fits in both brands are generally as described and are oversized. However, ARKET's claim that their size L fits up to a size 20 is ridiculous. I also find it frustrating that ARKET don't put the model size and height on their website so you just have to guess at whether an item will work for you. Indie brands often put the garment measurements in the sizing ie: length, width, leg length etc). This makes it easy to see which size would work in a particular item. Re Uniqlo, there are differences between the cashmere jumpers I bought more than four years ago and their newer ones (I'd say they are thinner now). Plus, they have increased their price quite considerably this year (especially the men's jumpers, which have gone up by £40). The cashmere jumpers I have had for more than four years I can say do wash, in the machine, and wear very well (I usually buy the men's in an XL for a very oversized look). I definitely think that Uniqlo's sizing has got more generous over the years - a 'small', a few years ago, was much smaller than it would be now and they have increased their sizing range in the women's. Plus I love that, as you mentioned, they give measurements for each garment. Sorry for long length of comment!

Good morning, Emma! Yay - After watching your video, I will definitely be adding to my cashmere collection (bf won't be that happy about it.. 😄) I bought my uniqlo turtlenecks (white, black, grey, navy) last October. I bought them specifically as layering pieces with blazer for example and have worn them A LOT over the last year. After a year I find them still as soft and as thick as in the beginning. I haven't noticed any change in their fit and am still as thrilled about them as I was when I bought them. I think it's great value for money and look forward to wearing them again this year! Have a great Sunday!

Love this type of video, we're getting the advantage of you experience, so we can make better choices. Cashmere is my Autumn/ Winter staple (with merino wool a hairs breath behind)! Must admit to loving a finer gauge over chunkier gauges as I'm petite and chunky knits can be a no no for me. So for me the thickness isn't a quality issue, but down to personal choice. I machine wash mine on a delicate cycle (and I always reduce the spin speed to the minimum. Most of mine is from Boden which is pricier than some other high street brands. I also have a few pieces from a Danish brand Club Collection - they are a company who have produced for others and now do their own direct to consumer items at reasonable prices. I did have a COS sweater, and will agree it is supersoft - the only reason I don't have it anymore is the style and colour was one I'd stopped reaching for.

Loveeeddd this video, I am also a cashmere addict and have bought cashmere from all apart from M&S. 100% agree Cos wins hands down for its quality and thickness of cashmere, I believe this is due to its rigorous detail to their supply chain. With Uniqlo, I’ve always bought their mens cashmere jumpers as they an oversized slouchy fit, and most importantly, the cashmere is much much thicker than the womens, which to me is a bit on the thin side for a winter jumper. I’ve had these Uniqlo mens cashmere crewnecks for 5+ years and still look great, wash well and minimal bobbling.

Amazingly valuable as always!! Must say though that my experience with H&M premium cashmere blends has been horrendous. A cashmere + cotton blend hoodie and matching wide leg lounge trousers. I wore them for a few hours sitting still at my desk and a bit of walking. The fabric pilled SO RAPIDLY and SO BADLY that…no kidding…I had clouds of pilled fabric falling off me. I’ve worn cashmere for 20 years. I’ve NEVER seen anything so terrible. And it was not the least expensive cashmere I’ve ever owned!!! Far from it!! Shame on you H&M.

Great video, really useful. I have big cashmere collection mostly M&S, Uniqlo and recently a couple of H&M pieces. Your so right about sizing, except for H&M ( which are oversized pieces) I have to size up one or two sizes to get the right fit. I’ve just bought my first John Lewis cashmere crew neck, I sized up one size, good range of colours, price very competitive, haven’t washed it yet so can’t comment. Definitely going to look at Cos for thicker pieces, my only hesitation is I’m only 5ft 2 in and the length of their jumpers may drown me 😂big thumbs up Emma for your reviews on cashmere loved loved loved !

Living in Australia I love the weight of these as they are not too hot and bulky (I still wear then every month beside Jan and Feb) I'm about a UK8/10 and wear a XS as a nice fitted look (not tight), M for a relaxed fit, and XL for an oversized slouchy look. Hello Emma! I really love your channel. Many thanks for this video. Also, I'm a huge cashmere lover :) Last year, I found out there were some tips for fixing cashmere and wool shrinkage. Use the same cold temperature for hand washing and rinsing, and add some ordinary hydrogen peroxide. Nearly one tablespoon while washing and 50 ml while last rinsing (let the item in this water mix for approximately 20 min). After that, you can stretch an item (when it is wet) and gently squeeze it into a towel. An additional bonus of using hydrogen peroxide is faster drying. I checked these tips personally. Hope they could be helpful. Wish you have a great day and looking forward to seeing you at the next videos!

You're spot on with the Uniqlo cashmere. They wash really really well and they seem to be durable. I've had mine for 2 years and it's still looking very good, hasn't lost his shape at all. But I have to say that I'm very sensitive and this was the first cashmere sweater that I've purchased and wouldn't purchase again as it is scratchy and itchy on me. I've tried wearing it underneath long-sleeved garments but it doesn't get very cold over here so it's currently being used by the hubby as a base layer for colder days as he loves being toasty and I don't.

I also have M&S, H&M, C&A, Uniqlo and Eric Bompard cashmere jumpers, which I've had for years except for the M&S one, which I purchased a few months ago. Among them, I would say the H&M one (I only have one fr H&M and and don't intend to buy again) is my least favourite. My fave is Eric Bompard though it's slightly more expensive than the others - very soft, high quality, just feels so luxurious. Next fave is M&S though I haven't washed it yet and have worn a few times. Uniqlo is also nice though the ones I have I've had for more than 4-5 yrs so maybe the quality/supplier is different fr the ones you have. Hi Emma :) I own cashmere frome COS, Uniqlo and really old ones from &other stories, that said, COS is also my favourite by far. Regarding the washability of Uniqlo, my pieces are 2 and 3 years old, where as the older one is still fine, the newer one developed a weird kind of fluffy texture, a bit like angora, but not that extreme, just not as flat as it used to be (don't know how to describe it better), despite washing it on cold with special cashmere detergent. I kind of have the feeling that the thinner, less expensive cashmere tends to to that more, whereas COS cashmere doesn't, even the thinner pieces from them (speaking of the classic COS cashmere crew neck). On the other hand Uniqlo really doesn't pill...but the fluffy texture prevents me from wearing it, so I guess in the future I will probably gravitate to COS completely. Thank you for your video, it was really interesting seing your collection, especially the navy COS cashmere jumper I regret not buying in the last year, maybe the mens navy crew neck will be an alternative.

Hi Emma, thank you for the video. It helped me a lot. I have started buying cashmere jumpers in men section in Mango. I have two of them and it's great quality. I have been considering buying a jumper from COS, but I will have to save up for it for a bit.
@olgak5062 жыл бұрын
you can buy a basic cashmere sweater for 45$ and up in the US.. usually no name but a store brand , or like a winter special/sale .. I usually buy one every winter so very soon I will have a nice cashmere collection 😊😊👏👏

I love cashmere but I’m scared to buy it due to my jumper nurturing abilities. I love your vids and because of you, me and my hubby are now a firm fan of arket and cos ! Thank you xx

Hi Emma, thanks for the video! I just love cashemere and have many items. 🥰 I think the wool added in Arket jumpers is Merino wool so that’s why it’s so soft. My Uniqlo jumpers wash and wear very well. My older ones are thicker and softer but I agree that they are less soft than M&S although it depends on the color (light colors are softer). I haven’t tried Cos yet but now I definitely will! 🤗
@EmmaHill2 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s Merino wool so that does indeed add to the softness but technically still should be as soft as 100% cashmere which is why it’s great as it’s much harder wearing and not as delicate as 100% cashmere 🙌🏼 I must admit my Uniqlo cashmere all feels the same, whether it be the cream or the black but someone else has commented that the men’s cashmere is softer than the women’s so I’m gonna go and have a fondle next time I’m at Bluewater 🤣
@Tamara_bkkr2 жыл бұрын
Oh really? Then I will check the men’s jumpers as well! 😏

Love the video! I think it's more helpful to focus the comparison on current items, no point in reviewing items that are no longer made (in the same quality).

I’ve bought uniqlo cashmere a couple years back and one last year I think and so far it’s been really good. Idk if cashmere pills at all but the uniqlo ones don’t really do that and they tend to keep the shape. The sizing isn’t the greatest (it’s a Japanese brand) but if you are petite or incredibly slim then finding your size will be easier

I have Uniqlo cashmere that are ab. 10 y old and I'm still wearing them. They are from Japan shops, I travel there a lot. Uniqlo is my alla time favorite.

Hi. Nice videos. I'm a size 18/20 and do buy some arket BUT I can only buy the oversized styles and they are fine for me as I like the fit but they are not oversized on me. Shame because they would get more custom from me if they were more size inclusive.

Last Christmas, I saw a friend’s grown daughter after several years, and we had a huge hug. I was wearing an older M&S cashmere jumper. She exclaimed “Oh, so soft!”, stroking my back. The hug went on quite a bit longer than usual 😄.!! I think you’re dead right about the softness changing a bit, and I think I can back that up!! 😂 Great video, Emma, lots of solid info!

I love hugging people when I’ve got cashmere on (unless they’re a smoker in which case they just get a wave 🤢😆) and then they stroke me 🤣 Cashmere, the gift that just keeps on giving 😆

I bought all of my Uniqlo cashmere sweaters 15 years ago, and they haven't changed at all since then; I absolutely love them!!! I haven't bought any new cashemere pieces from Uniqlo since then (as I simply haven't had a need for new cashmere garments), so I sadly can't comment on their new range. 😕 Both Massimo Dutti and John Lewis also have great cashmere range - check them out :)

This is great news! I have a John Lewis piece but only 1 and their range isn’t very extensive which I didn’t include them, same for Massimo Dutti x

A big shout-out and thanks to you from San Francisco for another great vlog!🤗 I usually shop Nili Lotan (a small American luxury brand) for my cashmere sweaters. However, after watching your excellent and valuable cashmere fabric analyses of popular high street brands, I'm heading straight to the COS, and ARKET websites.

Unfortunately, Arket doesn’t ship to the US. I’m a San Franciscan, too, and really wish we could get this brand here. British YTers always have beautiful items from them, I’m envious. Quince is a local company that makes nice cashmere and silk, too, and is super-affordable. I have several of their silk skirts (only 60!), tank tops, and and cashmere items and love them, and am unboxing two more of their cashmere sweaters and one jacket today. I think they probably have the best value in luxury fabrics for the US (people shipping to other countries have to pay big tariffs, usually, as we do for British goods). Lily Silk makes nice cashmere, too, for slightly more and they’ve reduced their SF delivery time to about a week (used to take a month). We San Franciscans love Emma Hill! P🙂

Cashmere obsessed here: Uniqlo used to be the best value for money option in the high street, they've changed a lot over the last years but especially this year, it's not soft anymore (still comfortable but, if you didn't know, it almost feels like wool) and the price went up. For that price point, I would consider other options. Loved the video, Emma.
@EmmaHill2 жыл бұрын
Admittedly I’ve never seen the Uniqlo cashmere in previous years but I completely agree that it doesn’t have the super soft and luxurious feel that you expect with cashmere. They are great basics for layering but for me it’s not what I would personally want when buying cashmere specifically x

@@EmmaHill Hi Emma, I just wanted to share my experience with Uniqlo cashmere as it was the first ever cashmere roll-neck I bought in my life and that was almost 7 years ago, and guess back then they had a different supplier as the cashmere is super soft and until this day looks like new (I take care of it of course). The durability truly surprised me. But COS... is COS ;) Thank you for another inspiring video, and can't wait for the next one ;) Lot's of love from Prague, Kat.

What a brilliant video. I don't have any cashmere but I was only in M&S yesterday fondling their cashmere crews! I might take the plunge if I get some money for Christmas. Funny that the Arket wool doesn't like water, sheep live outdoors!! I had some Uniqlo merino crews delivered this week but I wish they were cashmere. Have a lovely day x
@EmmaHill2 жыл бұрын
Haha yes sheep produce lanolin which is quite oily so this basically makes their wool ‘waterproof’ so it doesn’t absorb water. Wool, of some kinds can be notoriously tricky to launder unfortunately. Welcome to the cashmere fondling club, we’re a not so secret society of people that can be found stroking cashmere in shops. We may look sinister but we’re just here for the cashmere 😜

The problem with sustainability is that nothing is actually sustainable, certainly not new clothing and then every individual has a different level or definition of what they find sustainable so it’s a bit of a minefield. My personal perspective is to buy items that will last and that I won’t need to replace after only a year. H&M isn’t a sustainable company at all but I have pieces from several of their brands that are still going strong so for me they have been purchases that I’m happy with x
