My kid often says this. They’re non-binary and bi and often says that one day people won’t have to come out or say they’re gay or bi. They’ll just say “hey, that guy is cute do you know him?” or “oh, I really like them, maybe I’ll try to talk to them.” And my kid says one of the first questions will be “what are your pronouns?” and no one will think anything of it.

This is why I say that "gender critical" people are misogynists, no matter how much the claim they're just trying to protect the rights of cis-women... You can't promote a culture that consequently leads to cis-women having their gender questioned and call yourself a "feminist." Transwomen are women, and transmen are men. Those who disagree necessarily promote a culture that is by definition highly misogynistic.

P.S.: I came out as bi in 2020, when I was 59. I've been this way, as well as presenting some symptoms of ASD, all of my life. The majority of reaction that I've received, from my employer and coworkers, to immediate family members and longtime friends, has been a wonderful mix of "Happy Pride, so glad to see you having the courage to be yourself," and "yes, I pretty much figured that out years ago, So glad you are able to be yourself and not be afraid anymore." I've been extraordinarily blessed with a wonderful support network of friends, immediate family, coworkers, my employer (which has an open policy of strong support for its LGBT employees to be honest about their sexuality and gender without fear in the workplace), and many others, mostly old acquaintances, who pretty much figured out that I was "different" years ago and have no problem with it. Surprisingly, one of my best friends who has remained a close and tolerant friend who expressed his congratulations at being honest with myself is a man who is a lifelong fundamentalist christian evangelist. He began his response by saying that Jesus, in the bible, didn't just break bread with observant devoutly religious people, but he went among, broke bread with, and told jokes with and gave comfort to "people who were, at that time in Judea, considered outcasts, and in marginalized communities, who were looked down upon and not acknowledged by almost everyone, and yet he recognized them, stayed in their houses, and refused to treat them as invisible." In my life, I have found very few people who are declared christians, whatever their sectarian background, who have more eloquently expressed the compassion and humanity to be found in the teachings attributed to Jesus than this man has, nor had the fortitude and goodness in their innate conscience to put it into practice. This guy has never tried to proselytize me into joining his religion, or condemned me for being myself, and is, in fact, a fellow musician who I like to send rough drafts of my music when I'm working on a new piece, because he has great insights into what is working on a potential piece, and what might need to be dropped from an arrangement. I can't believe, for all the trauma and misunderstanding I suffered as a child, and later as a teenager in high school, that I have been so lucky as to have the right people in the right place at the right time in my life to step out and find my freedom. Wanted to share some good news with you from one wordy old hippie with long curly gray hair everywhere except on top, who is happy to be free to be himself, and in the middle of Texas, at that.

While the garbo messages I receive online are not as absurd & malicious as what Emma is sharing here, I’ve found the act of sharing them with my brother for us both to jeer at together makes those words far less personal. Hm, I guess by actively turning it into a group activity of contemplative absurdism, we end up genuinely feeling as if we had both stumbled upon some internet anger just lying around, asking to be mocked and appreciated for the smallness that it is rather than the largeness it attempts to sell itself as.

When I was 38 I was asked for ID to buy alcohol at Sainsburys. I didn't have photo ID on me, so had to get my 65 year old mum to buy it for me. The lady was shocked when I told her my age, but still wouldn't let me buy it on my own! I worked at a school a while back and one of my stepdaughters did some work experience there when she was 18 or 19. After the week was over, one of the office workers- who had known me for a couple of years at that point - asked if it wasn't strange that I had a stepdaughter that was so close in age to me. I was caught completely off guard and asked her how old she thought I was. Mid-20s she guessed. I was just about to turn 40. I have never seen someone look so shocked in my life. I am 48 now and had a nurse's appointment last week. She did a double take when she looked at my age and then she and the student nurse (who was probably about my age, she had a later career change) kept saying to each other how young I looked. It doesn't feel bad as you get older when people think you're younger, but it's still disconcerting (and hilarious) when people get seriously shocked. I just have very few winkles at all and things like my hands haven't aged quickly either. Just saying, if it keeps up you may have some fun to look forward to as you get older, Emma. 😆

Interesting comment about "Serpent of Eden" - got me to thinking. Apparently "god" wanted his children to live in ignorance and just to blindly follow "him". SOOO many parallels to current religions and patriarchal societies. Just blindly follow "god" / men and shut the fuck up. Religion has always been about power and control, and it smacks you in the face right away in Genesis. That mythical Serpent was the voice of reason and critical thinking. THANKS @EmmaTheGoblin for giving us alternate viewpoints and helping people think.
@The_Serpent_of_Eden
@The_Serpent_of_Eden 2 жыл бұрын
@@jbjones27 By jove, I think he's got it! God says, "Don't eat this fruit or you will surely die". When Eve relays this info to the Serpent, it responds (according to the NIV), "You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Is that what happened? Did Adam and Eve become like God? Did their descendents become like God? So, it certainly appears that God purposely wants to keep you ignorant and simple--because ignorant, simple people are easy to dominate and control. God wants you to stay an innocent, dependent child--because children make easy prey. But, we humans grow up, and we have magnificent brains that, when worked, can achieve miracles. We can walk on water--it's called a boat. We can turn water into wine--it's called fermentation. We can prevent diseases with medicine, feed the starving with genetically modified foods, and walk on the moon. When we engage our brain--and work together--we can accomplish the "impossible". "God" knows this. And "God" knows that a rational, careful, deliberate thinker is too smart to be a victim. So, "God" demeans and degrades curiosity, education, and knowledge right from the start. But not really. Not if you slip through the Bible like a Serpent and read it for yourself. Because Christianity is false, but this does not mean God is false. It means our conception of God, if we've built it within the Christian framework, is false. Because you know the difference between God and "God". God is betwixt your ears and always has been. We each of us get a proverbial devil and an angel on our shoulders, to consult us. You reach your devil and angel via the fruit of knowledge. When you consult with BOTH sides on the regular--your friends and your foes, your fans and your haters, the in group and the out group--then, you assume the God role. I think--I speculate--every human has the capacity to do this, but I may be wrong. I like to think everyone can activate their Godhead, but given the last, oh, six years, I have my doubts. "God" is a character that others try to use to scare and manipulate you. "God" demands your loyalty, obedience, and 10 percent minimum of your income. "God" wants you to vote a certain way; "God" wants you to hate certain types of people; and "God" warns you to never talk to the Serpent. "God" is an abusive, tyrannical PoS and the atheists are right to have nothing to do with it. But don't let those "Christians" define God for you. You know better--and you do so by hanging out with serpents and eating the damn fruit!

Yeah, so when I was about 9-10, the people in charge of my Sunday school thought it would be appropriate to listen in on a conversation I was having with my friend about things we had been dreaming about to interject their opinion about a story I had told. Essentially, I was describing a sleep paralysis episode, but I didn't know that. I didn't know what was going on, so I guess I was seeking validation that it was normal in my friends, and if I didn't succeed in that, it would be an interesting story to tell my peers. That was when my Sunday school teacher called me over, seeming extremely concerned. She proceeded to tell me a story from her own life about her sister who experienced the same thing, but it was a demonic presence that was inhabiting her home doing this to her every night. That one conversation inspired a fear of the dark so intense that I couldn't sleep without a light on for months. So people who spout that shit, does it feel like you're helping? Because if you're okay with reigniting ancient fears within a 10 year old kid, you better think it's goddamn necessary. If we're talking demographics, I'm also a practicing Catholic (dun-dun-dunnnnnn.) It's probably me and maybe 3 other Nicene-reciting dudes in the whole subscriber base. Again though, Emma's intelligent, witty, and honest. And she goes after fundamentalists. In my book, that makes us allies.

Good work, Jasper! That's the best modelling of Emma's old glasses by a puppet I have ever seen! Edit: Regarding the comments questioning your choice of partner/queerness... I seem to recall that simple maths can show why most bi folk end up in straight-passing relationships. Simply put, there are far more straight potential partners than there are queer potential partners. Regardless, why do they seem to think that being attracted to the same sex as well as the opposite/other sexes means you *can't* be in a straight-passing relationship? Like, does you liking women as well mean you are not allowed to have a male partner? Further edit: I had to try watching at 2x speed, and holy dog, chipmunk Emma! Yet another edit: Emo Betty Rubble was the best descriptor, though the charming Mrs Rubble had black hair if I recall, and was therefore more emo than you, making her the Emo Emma Thorne (or you the non-emo Betty Rubble?).

I think a lot of the bigots can't get their minds around the fact that _everyone_ outside their insular bubbles uses sexual orientation to describe who people are attracted to, not a description of who they are sleeping with/have slept with/wish they could sleep with. This leads to a lot of slanderous stereotypes about bisexuals when it doesn't result in bi erasure. With the bi and ace erasure, and possibly the fractal wrongness of trans denial, it leads to them assuming anyone who self-describes as "queer" must be _gay,_ and they can't work out how a queer person could be in a straight-passing relationship within the framework of those assumptions. _Also,_ fascist purity rhetoric has them claiming if they don't oppress queer people everyone will catch The Gay and nobody will procreate, so they _might_ think (or claim to think as an excuse to oppress the queer community) once you're "corrupted" you won't want a straight(-passing) relationship.

The context for "Y chromosome + 52% + cope" is its an anti-trans dogwhistle, presumably because they assume you're a trans woman. The gist of it is "Y chromosome mean man so you're a man" and "52 percent of trans people commit suicide" which I don't even think is the right number for the statistic that they're trying to quote, and even then its taken out of context, and refers to rate of suicide attempts among trans folks with unsupportive family.

The thing is, the term "virtue signalling" doesn't indicate someone is pretending to have beliefs, just that they want people to know what they believe or claim to believe. The right never bothered to understand the term they were using and thus just use it to mean hypocrite, which is not a synonym at all.
