And even if you have a good marriage, separate bank a counts are a good idea. This reminds me of a young woman I met waaaay back when I was in undergrad (seriously, it was the 90s): she was a moderately pleasant person; endlessly coldly polite; always shook hands like her hand was a bag full of pudding; was in university for her MRS (literally, she studied only enough to pass her classes, only took the easiest classes, and openly stated she wouldn't work or use whatever degree she was studying once she was married); and never, EVER smiled. I asked her about the last one once, and she explained that her mother drilled all these rules into her, especially that smiling causes wrinkles, and she would be thwacked if she smiled to train it out of her. To this day, I think of her and feel such sadness that my friends and I could never get her to see the other side (and damn if I didn't try to make her laugh...and I'm a funny bitch, yo!)

Back when I used to have a gf, she already had a couple tattoos, which I'm not overly keen on. When we took a trip to visit her sister, she asked me if it was okay for her to get another tattoo with her sister to commemorate the visit. I understood why she asked, because I had told her that historically I didn't like tattoos. But I told her that it was %100 up to her if she wanted to get another tattoo. They got the tattoos, and it was never an issue. And even though we are no longer together, she still has the tattoo to remember the visit, which was awesome. I'm glad she got it.

I don't want to say he's a sociopath/psychopath (I have a BA is psyche which isn't enough to be diagnosising anyone) but for real dude has no empathy. I don't think he even cares about other men. He just doesn't want ANY woman to ever have power over ANY man because that would mean some women would expect to not be controlled or manipulated by men. Basically he benefits in his ideal patriarchical world- but he obviously could care less about anyone other than him. It's just that any women with any power over her life is somehow disrespectful to HIM in his eyes. You can't teach adults empathy. I'm not sure therapy would do anything for him. He just needs to F off to some forgotten forest where he can pretend it's the 1600's and his world view still has any sway (since it doesn't).

I’m in a het relationship with a guy. We’ve been engaged for a year and are looking for houses. He cooks, I put dishes in the washer, he puts them up. I wash / dry clothes, he puts them up. I always drive everywhere. I make “decisions” (meaning what to eat and the like) because he’s indecisive and never *wants* to. (Yes I do beg him to decide every now and again bc I am also indecisive). I budget and take care of bills and other important info. These responsibilities have been worked out through years of communication, understanding who likes / dislikes what, who is better at what. I can not describe how REVOLTING it was to hear some of the phrasing in these tweets - such as the marital rape apologetic one. I really have worked on building such a healthy relationship that I deadass forgot these kinds of people exist.

My husband and I have a similar arrangement. I am the better cook and so I do most of the meal prep and he does most of the dish washing. I have certain garments that require special laundering so I wash our clothes. He washes towels and bed linens. He is picky about the bathroom, so he does the bathroom cleaning. I hate to dust and he hates to mop, so he dusts and I mop.

@@Undivided-X It's not always perfect. We bicker over things sometimes. But we have a set plan where we spend a minute apart then come back and each have a chance to talk without being interrupted but it has to be "I" and "me" statements and reasons. Instead of "You don't listen" you'd have to say "I feel like you don't listen because I asked you to mow the grass every day this week" - then he has a chance to reply (with I/me statements). It's not easy all the time, but we genuinely love one another and thus make that conscious effort. I have a hard time admitting when I'm wrong - and we have an established way he can gently call me out when I'm just continuing to argue for pride's sake. He has his problems I call him out for too. It takes effort and time and communication. ((Parents however? The least I can do is not have him worry about the other chores around the house. In return, he buys me things like the iRobot vacuum to help me out. We understand we each work hard and do as much as we can to make each other’s lives easier. He’s also supporting me completing an engineering degree, so not exactly “traditional” gender rolls. Statistically speaking, women outlive their husbands. As an employee in a public contact position in a federal government taxing agency I encountered widows who were the products of marriages of the sort that whacko prefers. Those were women in their sixties or seventies who for forty or fifty years had never paid a bill, or accessed a bank account for any purpose. Some had never driven a car or shopped for groceries.
@hope-cat4894
@hope-cat4894 3 жыл бұрын
That's why is baffling to think this is the best way to live in a functioning society. If either partner dies, they don't know how to function independently. If the woman dies, the man can't manage a home and barely feed himself, and if the man dies, the woman can't handle bills to keep her head above debt. It forces people to rush from one marriage to the next before they can even properly grieve.

@@hope-cat4894 yes, in the past such classification of duties to "female" and "male" ones worked only because people lived in extended multi-generational families, so there were always several people of every gender in the house. not 18th century Western Europe or Americas lol (women were actually regarded as important members of society, generally). That didn't become "common" sense until the second half of the 1800's (19th cent).

I don’t think anyone can live this way, I would absolutely make him make EVERY decision. What do I wear today…What do I have for breakfast….What do I do first in the house, I’m done, now what do I do? You would hate that especially if I call you at work to think for me.

In his mind the woman should take care of kids all day at home... I just imagine his wife calling him every 15 minutes to ask about stuff with the kids😅 "can i give jimmy juice?" "can i pick Jimmy up?" "Jimmy shit his pants can i wipe it up or do you want me to just let it be?" This guy doesnt want a woman, he wants a robot with a uterus

I'm 42, single, childless and quite content. I was in my early twenties when I officially decided on being child-free by choice. My family have also never pushed these things at me, I radiate ace energy XD So I don't understand these types of people, if they are really happy why are you trying to write an instruction manual, why don't you sound happy. Why have these people never read a history book and learned why society changed and why that change is irreversible and necessary. 18:00 - I've recently listened to a True Crime case (from Bailey Sarian!) of a man who abducted women so he could train them like slaves. He may get out of jail this year. So what this lunatic is talking about is criminal, it's the same BS that the confederacy talked about - black people being only 3/5th human (or some such claptrap) and thus must be trained. So this creep isn't just a delusional fantasist, but also evil and quite creepy. 26:00 - I heard/ read of a case in China where a man kept his 'wife' chained (like a dog) in a shed. She had given birth to 7/ 8 children. In rural China, buying a wife is still a thing, this woman had lost most of her teeth from the repeated pregnancies and malnutrition, but finally got some help from others when this case got attention. The man got only a month in prison. Recently, it's become an issue with Conservatives not wanting to outlaw child marriages and raise the marriage age. It's bastards like this who benefit from it, definitely kink over-share. 28:00 - infantizing your partner is also a kink that some men and women enjoy. Like bro...ick. So he has all these conclusions about what women want and need, but what about men? They just want a slave? This man is terrifying, he sounds like he has brainwashed people and has women in his basement. He's legit scary and I hope his wife is okay.
