Switzerland has actually 4 official languages (german/swissgerman,french,italian,rätoromanisch), that's why a lot of things are labelled with several languages :)
@jukpulfer10 жыл бұрын
Actually, the three-language-label is because we have four main languages here: German (north and central), French (south-east and south-west), Italian (south) but also Rhaeto-Romanic.
@jukpulfer9 жыл бұрын
***** actually it's just west (www.uebersetzerportal.de/bilder/schweiz_sprachen.gif)

fuckJuly but there are two types of german in switzerland.
@jukpulfer8 жыл бұрын
jody024 no, we have only one "official" german which is the same german people in germany use. on the streets though, we probably have like 15 different dialects (the actual swiss german). but signs, books and stuff like that are mostly in german.

I am from Switzerland ^^ The nut-tard is from the canton that's on the right side, it's the biggest one and i live there ^^ i work in a bakery where we also produce those nut-tards. The filling is a mixture with walnuts, sugar, honey, cream, milk and butter.

Grisons is Frensch fpr the canton of Graubünden, which is that big canton in the south east. The Nusstörtli is filled with caramellized walnuts. The canton is almost entirely situated in the mountains, and is the canton where they speak Rumantsch (the Romansh language) in some regions. It consists of several idioms, and the language sounds a bit like Portuguese.

omg! ovomaltine is soooo delicious! i'm from germany and my grandparents met each other in switzerland where they also lived for a while. i remember they used to bring all sorts of stuff from ovomaltine like chocolate-bars and that powder you can mix with milk from when they visited friends there. but today it's also available in germany! :) i especially love the chocolate bars! they are really special it's like pressed ovomaltine powder covered in chocolate! awesooome!

In Switzerland, we have this supermarket called Migros (pronounced the French way) that everyone loves. They have lots of variations of brand products done the Migros way, and Eimalzin is the Migros version of Ovomaltine. Migros has brand products too, but their own takes are cheaper and some like them better. Appenzeller Biberli are an awesome snack, and we eat them year round. They are also easy to digest. There is a new small company producing artisanal Biberli and they are heavenly!! And regarding Ov(om)altine: it's like our national beverage. When kids go out to play, their moms would give them a packet of Ovo.

Frank Wenzel Thanks for sharing these little details. I feel like the only way to discover them is have lived them or to have them shared by someone who has.

I just find it fascinating what rich histories these little things have, and what they tell you about the everyday in all of these countries.

Well, duh, I guess that's why you are doing this in the first place.
@Ateezwooyoung10 жыл бұрын
in the first video of snacks from switzerland, it looks like every article was from migros.
@frankandreaswenzel10 жыл бұрын
oh yes. when you meet people, say, under 40 over here, sooner or later the question pops up: «were you a Migros or a Coop-child?» The answer HAS to be «a Migros-Child». I think back in the day, Migros was less expensive in general, and all the knock-offs of the real brands that Coop serves were (and are) celebrated.

The 'Tirggel' are very hard and the idea is to break off a small piece and suck on it. That way they should develop the honey flavour in your mouth. They are normally sold before Christmas.

You can also buy them in a round shape with a hole through the top - in the olden days people used to weave a ribbon through it and hang it up on the Christmas tree.

Well I just learned something, I'm dumbfounded. I didn't realise blackcurrants were illegal to farm in the US, from 1911 then the individual states got the choice to lift the ban from 1966, but not all states seem to have lifted the ban yet as they are still deemed a threat to the lumber industry (can carry "white pine blister rust"). Obviously can be bought (imported from other countries/state) but is usually on the 'world foods aisle'!
