I feel so bad for that poor man. This is a perfect example of why religious indoctrination is so harmful. Drilling these types of ideas into a person's mind starting from a time where they cannot clearly reason about them on their own is a form of emotional abuse. Yeah, buddy, I've been hit by a car as well, on a crosswalk. Flew 10 feet over the pavement and came out with the marks of the fender on my hip and thigh, several scrapes, a limp for three weeks and the fright of my life. It wasn't a guardian angel that saved me, it was the fact that the driver stopped when the car hit me, and that I fell on my side instead of on my head. None of that made me believe in God or divine intervention. It just made me think people should pay attention to the road when they're behind a wheel. If there was a guardian angel it would have made the driver notice me before I was hit. It would have saved us all a lot of trouble, and me a lot of pain.

I was hit by a car age 14. It snapped bones in my leg and lead me to miss lots of my education being in hospital. It was the drivers quick thinking and the ambulance and surgeons who helped me, even at 14 I knew that.

Something I've noticed in my life is Christians, moreso than any other religion, have these types of conversations with atheists way more than they talk to Buddhists or Hindu or any other religion. I wonder why that is? It's like they find comfort in the idea that people might not be Christian, but at least they have some kind of religious faith or belief in the supernatural.
