No matter how many times I see this episode, whether by myself or by reaction video, I still choke up with this episode. I still hear that damn Christmas song, even now, nine years after I first saw this episode, and still think of that message.

Real reason Kirito blames himself is that if he hadn't held back the truth about his level they would have listened to his warnings about the dangers of that room. The scene was shortened in the anime to save time. But in the novel, they took a vote before going into the room. Kirito and Sachi voted against going in, while the other three voted to go in. If Kirito had told them his real level, they would have known he had better information, then them, but they'd also realize he was a beater. In the end he was too afraid of losing them as friends and chose not to tell them his level, which led to them all dying. His selfish decision and cowardice are what got them killed.

I saw this episode 10 years ago. Ever since then, Sachi has been my favorite character of all time. I was going through a very bad time mentally wise in my life at the time and her message to Kirito resonated with me and saved me as well. In the future if I ever have a daughter I'm naming her Sachi because of how much of an impact she had on my life.

9:44 Gets me every time. This episode...I only dread this one and one other in SAO, where I know, for a fucking fact, that my eyes will not be dry. Sachi is one of two anime deaths that are weak spots for me. If you've wqtched that isekai with the cute blue "boy", you know the other one. 10:34 Dude, Angel. You just made me realize something. What if Sachi's family was by here hospital bed...and then she's gone? Out if the hundreds who have died, how many times have their loved ones been putting out a vase of flowers, or wiping their body down, or brushing their hair, and suddenly...flatline?!? I never though of it, but damn. That's intense. Your words made me think of that. 14:55 Klein is just the Best Boy, right?!?!? I wish he had gotten a side story or season of his own. He was super popular when this aired. Shite. 16:39 and I much be emotionally vulnerable today, cause I kinda sobbed more than usual when I get to this part. Let's jusy say I always try to let myself feel everything an anime intends us to feel, it makes my enjoyment that much more sincere. And Dachi singing, long after she has gone....that shite hurts.

From what I remember, it was kind of his fault. The enemies that spawned based their level on the average level of the party. Him being so high compared to them caused the enemies to be much higher that what the party could handle.

So Ive done the math, assuming Kirito was at level 40 and the others at level 20. On the day they entered the trap, their average level should have been at.... (20+20+20+20+40)/5 = 24.

@@jonson856 That's.... not how it works. You find the median. highest would be Kirito (go with 40). The others were around 20. (go with 20). Median between those two numbers would be 30. However both Mikko and you were wrong, - was announced by Reki that the mobs were matched to the level of the highest player - aka Kirito. Hence why they were pretty much one shotting the other group members, nearly 20 levels under.

@@Sir-Bane My math is not wrong. I only based it on mikko's statement. I calculated with average, as was stated by mikko. If he said it was median, I would have calculated with median. If he had stated it was what ever the author used, I would have calculated with that. BTW the median would be 20. (x1 = 20, x2 = 20, x3 = 20, x4 = 20, x5 = 40. Median here would be x3)

In the book, which, you know, Reki wrote, all the trap did is to attract the mobs from the floor, anime adapting it just changed it to spawn to save time, that is all. No level adjustment, simply a horde.

Not sure you've been paying attention to the dates, but there's been about a 5-month time skip between eps 2 and 3 (SAO launched Nov '22; they cleared Floor 1 Dec '22; this episdoe is now May '23). A LOT has happened in those 5 months - much of it past Floor 8 not being written yet (that's where the Progressive series has currently left off), but a lot of which can be inferred based on canonical side stories, some of which flash back to these earlier floors, some of which were written later, for instance to support the Ordinal Scale movie.

Also, at the end of the episode, they're preparing for Christmas, so there's another long time skip to where they've been in the game for more than a year by that point.

The reason they got killed was cuz kirito being higher level so the trap was also set higher level according to kirito that's why kirito thinks its his fault for not telling them his actual level and all of them died with 1 or 2 hits cuz of that

Where did you get this information? In novel Kirito regret not telling them his lvl, because if they knew they might listen to his warnings. Is it some fan made theory? Cause it's kind of stupid. If monsters was higher lvl, there is no way Kirito survive such many of them.
