Thanks for taking time in your obviously busy schedule to play through a campaign game of Empire of the Sun. As you pointed out the IAI card is quite complicated and was meant for solo learning, so I offer two suggestions to speeding up your analysis of what to do. First, the comprehensive example of play in the rulebook covers the historical attack and I once posted some thoughts in this thread: boardgamegeek.com/article/5313437#5313437 . Hopefully these two bookends will allow you to craft a superior version. Good luck on completing the scenario.

Well done. Nice format. Haven't played it in a while. Quite a nuanced game I found and a little tricky to solo. I look forward to more episodes.

Awesome. Was looking at this on the shelf today, but pulled Pericles off instead. Make plenty of mistakes so I don't have to. I'm sure Mark will chime in.

I've played EotS and I know the game pretty well. Congratulations on a perfectly run first card! :) Now we'll see about the second card. Twenty-six activations! I normally don't play Turn 1. I start my campaigns at Turn 2.

Thanks for the great video. I really want to get in on the reprint of this, but am concerned the level of complexity won’t pay off the investment of time and energy without a face to face opponent.

HIriu and Zuikakou were also at Pearl Harbor...where are the planes???
@CounterAttack6 ай бұрын
Each carrier unit represents several carriers and probably escorts, so they are abstracted away. Also, carrier air wings are not represented by air units - the carrier unit itself represents the air wing, which is why it has a range.

How do you cut your pieces? And with what? I need to do mine I just don’t want to screw it up

Yes. I have one in the works right now. Different game though.

U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor was historically a lot bigger than presented in this scenario. Should have 4 BB units, 2 CA, 3 DD under attack at Oahu. Then again the event is so scripted it's hardly worth doing it. But you did a good job with the playthrough.
@CounterAttack6 жыл бұрын
It is my understanding that even though each naval counter has a name, they represent groups of ships. For example a BB counter might represent several actual BBs and their escorts.
@palibrae6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Front side is a pair of capital ships and escorts, or a squadron of destroyers, and reverse a single capital ship or a reduced squadron. The Hiei counter (front side) thus represents the two Kongo class BBs that accompanied the Japanese carrier task force of 6 CVS (3 counters). Problem is of course that Hiei overmatches the entire USN battle force!
@egillis2142 жыл бұрын
Hummm…attack with 3 carriers full planes and you can only destroy a single cruiser, one Battleship and ground aircraft ? The carriers were the real targets
@uncletimo60596 жыл бұрын
Game for pansies. This is a game for real men: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9650/war-pacific-first-edition No 10-12-3 BS. Actual airplanes on each carrier. It is also impossible to board play, and is a monster on a computer. WITPAE human vs human campaign takes roughly... 5+ real life years. Playing it vs computer now, and it is something else.
