In many a chemistry class I could not get those steps down but I don't think I have ever seen it presented so clearly. Very well done. The only thing left is to do a few hundred examples to drill it into my head.

When does it make sense to use the empirical formula instead of a chemical formula? Is it only appropriate when the chemical formula isn't yet determined? The only difference I can think of is for something like H2O2 or S2O2, where the chemical formula captuers information about the molar mass of the compound that is otherwise lost...?
