This is one of the few songs that SAW wrote that was tailored to a singer. SAW/Donna Summers was a great collab... she actually motivated them to put effort into adjusting their assembly line formula.

I agree! I was listening to this podcast and I think Matt Aitken had said that she basically made them actually put more effort into writing as she wasn't their typical acts and how this song they went back to the roots of donna to formulate it

One of the surprises of her 1996 tour was adding this song to her setlist. She definitely rocked this song live when she performed it.

Great observation about Donna Summer in her own lane. Non Donna Summer fans wouldnt realise that she tended to put her spin on songs. Moroder described her as an alchemist. He said that the songs would give her were base metals and she would turn them into gold.

***DONNA SUMMER (80's COMEBACK) TRIVIA TIME!!** .....It CHANGED, for the BETTER....(4:20) .....OMG! ...now THIS, is gonna be loooooong, Empress.....my FAVORITE Donna (80's) track! - ...From the TOP: Donna was faltering BAD, Feb., 1988; G-ys were still mad at 'that rumour', her label (Geffen) dropped her, her Records weren't selling....so, she took a sabbatical, started painting, and raised her Daughters.... - ...then, she got a (UK) Record label deal, & her Husband suggested that she work w/ *STOCK AITKEN & WATERMAN* , who blew up in 1987 w/ Rick Astley & Kylie Minogue...she agreed, cut an Album with them in 2 weeks(!) ("Another Place & Time"), and.....all *HELL BROKE LOOSE!* - ...the 1st single, ("This Time I Know It's For Real") was a WORLDWIDE hit, and brought her back into the USA Top Ten (#7 Pop, #1 Dance), & she had another Top Ten (UK) Pop hit, with "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt"...but, THIS one, was for the CLUBS..... - ...Donna got C&C Music Factory to remix it, and it #1 Dance (for 4 weeks), got her G-y fanbase back, (she apologized in a letter to GM-HC) and it eased Donna into the 90's, where she had numerous Top Ten Dance hits, since.... (4:31) - ...this version, was the SAW 7" remix version, with added ad-libs at the end.... Donna, was BACK..... (4:58)

Donna never had a UK Record Label deal ! She was with Geffen and for that reason, SAW who would normally record a song, release it, and them decided if they were going to record another song or maybe do an album with the artist; had to do an entire album with her, because of her contract with Geffen. That was not the way SAW normally worked, their words. Geffen Records decided to release her from her contract, so the rush was on in the US to find new label to released the album in the US. She signed with Atlantic Records, but lost time (a few months)/sales because the first single was already a hit across Europe. Import albums sales were good but that didn't help with her US deal. Geffen Records once again made a poor decision. Donna was black balled in the US, the only reason TTIKIFR was a hit, was because it made radio playlist for the US, on virtue of being a top 5 hit across Europe, so DJs had to play the song. This was the follow up and it tanked..big time. 3 weeks in the Hot 100, the DJs did not have the song.

Empress, myself being a HUGE Donna Summer fan since LTLYB, seeing your reaction to this song is priceless. This is a Stock Aiken and Waterman (SAW) production.❤️‍🔥 They produced the early hits for Kylie minogue and Rick Astley. They have commented that working with Donna on this album was different from ANY other artists that they had worked with. They didn't have to use the EXTRA STUFF that they'd used with other artists, due to her extreme vocal talent and ability. They said EVERYONE, even the janitors, stopped to listen to her do her vocal warmups. VOCAAAAALS❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Thank you Empress!

I think they also said that she used to warm up in the bathroom and her voice would fill the entire building. Seperately, the great and also underrated Marilyn McCoo said that the first time she and Donna were rehearsing in the dressing room for an episode of Solid Gold, that when Donna opened up her voice she blew her out of the room and that she had never experienced such a powerful voice before.

May I suggest the following songs also by Donna Summer : Love Is In Control (1982), Dinner With Gershwin (1987) and The Wanderer (1980). Thanks Empress.

This is from her famous album produced by Stock. Aitken & Waterman who had been begging to work with her. After she heard "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley she liked their production and did a full album produced by them. This album is Worshipped by Donna Summer fans and DJ's, especially this track, which has had more remixes than anyone can count, and was released in an anniversary collection that has like 10 remixes and edits of this song alone, plus umpteen more remixes if most every other track. Most people consider this to be the best song on the album because they used the format that she actually began which was the start of song slowly and then burst into a swirling dance arrangement and unbearable vocal FIRE! experience! Also. Donna was known for her wardrobe, much of which she designed herself. Her wardrobe has been on display at the Grammy museum, and others , and I just participated in an estate auction for charity at Christie's NY online. Some of her gowns, jewelry and accessories were being auctioned. I was bid out on one of her concert outfits, but I tried!

Donna summer was the "Queen of the disco" i think this song may have been a pete waterman production alongside her other big-hit at this time around the late 80s called "this time its for real" which was a smash hit probably on the same album (correct me if im wrong??) as always great to see your reaction empress and those sparkling white teeth young lady 😁
