That's a most welcome video. Not too many people cover signal logic. Agree that this is very much an area to just play with. If you don't understand how the bits and pieces work you won't have much luck putting them together to make a circuit that does what you want. This is one area where I'm in good shape. Before I moved to software I used to do digital circuit design. This was back in the 80's and 90's but they haven't changed the rules on Boolean logic so it's all still good. ;) I go pretty light on the circuitry in my designs but there are a couple I add to a CV related to teleporters, shields, and generators. I'll have a 2-input OR gate where one input is from a lever switch (or an input from the control panel) and the other input is from the sensor that turns the teleporter off if nobody is standing on it. The output from the OR gate goes to all the generators in the CV. With that circuit the generators will be turned on if the switch is on or someone is standing on the teleporter (or both, of course). Great for CVs I leave on a planet to service autominers. I can teleport to it and then back without having to leave the CV running after I've teleported back. The 2nd circuit extends on that by adding another switch, an inverter, and a 2-input AND gate. The switch goes into one input of the AND gate. The teleporter enable sensor goes into the input of the inverter and the output of the inverter (which will be 1 when nobody is standing on the teleporter) goes into the other AND gate input. The output from the AND gate goes to the shield generator. With that circuit the shields will only be turned on when both the switch is on and nobody is standing on the teleporter. And of course a few simple circuits using switches/sensors to control doors and ramps, but that's just simple stuff with no added gates. I do find it's good to keep signal logic simple. Empyrion signal logic can get a little flakey if you try to do anything too fancy with it. I'm pretty much caught up on all your tutorial videos now. Every one of them has been good and I've most always learned some new things. I hope I haven't came across as a jerk in any of my comments I've made.
@Rakoona2 жыл бұрын
Of course not! I always have signal logic connected to the teleporter as well. That thing draws crazy amount of energy and will consume your fuel even faster. And yes, you could make crazy signal logic combination, but again, the game sometimes finds a way to get confused itself if there is too much and might have trouble keeping up! Like sometimes SV's that are docked in your CV, even when inactive, can mess with the signal logic and be still considered "A presence". and my doors and ramps will always stay open.
@xlerb22862 жыл бұрын
@@Rakoona Yeah, I gave up long ago on using the landing gear to open ramps, etc. But part of that too is I like limiting myself to using, as much as possible, only found components. So I often don't have landing gear at first, but I've always got a stack of switches.

I've spawned in an sv i made in creative mode with switching for all the devices but the switching is completely dead when i spawn it into survival mode. I've even tried removing and replacing the switches with the multitool and resetting everything but absolutely nothing will make the levers work. When i highlight them with the crosshair they don't show their name like they do in creative 🤔 HELP 😅

When in game, you can still go in god mode or godmode (gm) invisible (gm iv) which should show the item with your multitool. Now, I'm thinking either your signal button is off in your control panel. (easy to sometimes overlook these things). You can also find me on my discord channel and send me the blueprint, and I can take a look at it also see if I can find the problem!

Hi Rakoona, I am trying to figure out how some do the power save circuit, it puts things like lights in half power mode etc...
@Rakoona11 ай бұрын
Well, either have a switch in the P menu and give it a signal, or put a switch on your ship and give it a signal. Then you'll have to set each light to follow that signal, whichever one you want to be connected to that signal. But you can't have a light become dimmer. It's on or off. Remember to set a signal if you have a teleporter on your ship. That thing takes a lot of power!
@auwombat854011 ай бұрын
yes I get that but I do not know what the others put on their power save mode, I know some have a number of things when the signal is activated in the P menu, and lights was just a thing I see where your P menu lights is only half on not fully on so no idea about that lol and thank you for the reply@@Rakoona

good tutorial but I'm still highly confused lol, I'm trying to set up a lever to power on and off my constructors so they don't draw unnecessary power and tried using a similar setup to your door but on/off and it doesn't work. Idk what I'm doing wrong lol
@Rakoona2 жыл бұрын
Well, you could set it up on a level, make sur to put a name in your xsignal on the lever, and then on the constructor, set it up to follow that signal you created. You can always use the custom signals in the main control panel.
@spanners73432 жыл бұрын
The thing the confuses most people is the second option on the device you are controlling (in your case a constructor), which one to use? Here what each do: Follow - this follows the state of the signal, for a switch it means if the switch is on the device will be on if the switch is off the device is off. This is the option you'd use 90% of the time with switches and motion sensors. Toggle - each time the signal is activated the state of the device swaps, this is most often used with pressure plates and light-bean sensors. Note a switches signal is only sent when the switch is turned on not when it's turned off. On - once the signal is triggered the device turns on and stays on. This is also mostly used with light-bean sensor and pressure plates but can be used with switches if you don't want to let your players turn something off after turning it on. Off - the opposite to On. I hope this makes things a bit more clearer.

Howdy - I am just getting started in this game and have built a Landing Pad for my CV that is 40x70. I have placed lights and would like to use a sensors to turn them on when myself or someone lands on the pad. They'll turn off while away or once I walk into the Base Station. I have placed sensors on the pad and in opening them all of the way up it takes at least six to cover the whole pad. How would I set up the logic. If it only required four sensors it would be simple. Thanks in Advance!
@Rakoona Жыл бұрын
So you can set up all sensors on a 4or and a 2or circuit. Then output them to a signal called LIGHT1 and LIGHT2. Then setup another 2or circuit with LIGHT1 or LIGHT2 that would give another signal called LIGHTSON. Then set the lights to turn on that signal. I hope it's clear the way I'm writing it!

Then I ran and jumped in a SV, that is parked at a different location, and as soon as I got into the area the lights lit. Make sure all items in your ship devices are grouped! I think that helps. Then on your Landing gear, set a Tx signal name. "Test" in this case. Then go to your ramp, and use the "open close" dropdown to find "test" and set it to follow. I think you need to check that "I" box for invert.

Alright what if i want to set multiple doors to open on the command of one button? Because i bascily want to creat a Hangartrench like the Stardestroyer of the Republic had in the Clone Wars and i set up around 68 Blastdoors to cover the trench. I want the all to open at one signal. Can i just creat a signal and set them all to open at that signal? Or do i need to to crosswire them to eachother? I play the game since years but very irregulary and always forget everything even mildly complicated as soon as a start again
@Rakoona2 жыл бұрын
You can create a motion sensor or lever, or whatever you want to use, and assign that item to output a signal (MAIN in this case). Just set all the doors individually to open to that signal! The only problem with that, is I beleive the doors will not become manual, and wont open automatically. Unless you have another motion sensor for each indivual door and add a circuit OR for each door, to open either with the MAIN signal or the other signal assigned to the montion sensor set for that door. I hope you understand what I mean.

@@Rakoona I tried a bit and managed to just connect them all to a "Trench" Signal that i linked to a lever. But i want to make this effect also accesable from the main consol. @@holschermarc So I opened up Empyrion to double check, and on your control panel, at the right completely, you have a Signal section in which you can set a few signal from that. Yes, have all shutters connected to an OR command. Have all levers named Lever 1 to 4. And the 5th named MAIN. The set OR commands Lever 1 or Main = door 1. Lever 2 or Main = door 2. An important step you and probably all other tutorials are missing, is "Turn on switches" Me and several others have been screaming at these tutorials because creating a simple light switch just doesn't work, until you find a single thread on steam that adds "did you turn on the switches?" WTF what do you mean turn on the switches? where? settings? anyone? After searching all over the game settings and UI, I finally found that stupid switch... WTF would the devs make a switch to turn on switches??? Rest of your tutorial is helpful though ;) Btw, people don't just use NAND because they "like" to use more complicated logic... These have very specific functions you can't replicate with an AND gate unless you use a NOT gate with it. NAND is for example used to create RAM memory blocks in your computer
