Almost everyone loves a bit of Foot Pampering and our Pumice and Salt Foot Scrub is always popular with our customers.
This week I take you along as I make a batch up for out Christmas packs and as a thank you for watching and Subscribing, I am sharing our recipe with you - don't forget to try your favourite combination of oils, butters and fragrance.
To find great Essential Oil Blends try Modern Soapmaking's eocalc

Emulsified Pumice & Salt Foot Scrub
5% Hard Oils and Butters (any combination that you like but I would avoid Coconut Oil as this can soften in heat.)
3% Emulsifying wax
3% Stearic Acid
2% Beeswax
18% soft oils (any combination of oils that you would like to use. May need more or less depending on fragrance and preservative)
0.5-1.5% Preservative (check the guidelines for your chosen preservative - if using more or less than 1%, alter the percentage soft oils)
Fragrance - I used 1% per our guidelines. Adjust percentage of soft oils if using more or less
67% Exfoliants ( I used Pumice and a mix of sea salts - you can use sugar)

Thanks for sharing your recipe. Also, I want to make a comment on your beauty/gift paks. I think this is such a great idea! I know people like the idea of getting all the products in one box, instead of searching through all of them individually to find what they need or want. Thank you 🧡 I've not had issues with it getting runny on me. We can get temps in the high 30°C. If you are worried try a small batch first. If it does, try decreasing the soft oils and increase hard butter. I would also avoid coconut oil as this will soften. Let me know how you go

Love love your videos and this new one is just a great coincidence as I started making emulsified scrubs just a few weeks ago! Just a quick question though, can I omit the beeswax and just replace with additional Ewax and stearic? The reason is mainly the cost. Thanks and more power!
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jean 🧡 Omitting beeswax is definitely something to have play with. I would probably increase the stearic acid as this will help with the hardening whereas the emulsifying wax is more to get the scrub to turn to lotion when in contact with water. I have found it you can find local bee keepers you can often get beeswax from them for a much better price than suppliers and I feel it has more of the properties we want still in fact.

Hello K elly (sorry if mistyped your name) I made 200 grs following your guidelines but is not as "watery" as yours look, I put it a small jar but I don´t think it will work in a squeezable tube like it. This is what I used, 5% refined shea butter (10 grs) 3% of cetoestearyl alcohol (6 grs) (it is the same as emulsified wax), 3% (6 grs) of stearic acid, 2% (4 grs) of beeswax , 18% ( 36 grs - 22 grs macadamia-7 grs grapeseed oil-7 grs avocado oil), 134 exfoliants (divided into equal parts of nutshell, pure sea salt and epsom salt) 2 mls of fragance. but realized the mix was not loose like yours so I added 6.4 grs more of grapeseed oil. Preservative did not add since it is my sample to try on me right now :) smells delicious.... Please what you mean with this? ALTER THE PERCENTAGE OF SOFT OILS REGARDING THE PRESERVATIVE AND FRAGANCE QUANTITIES TO ADD TO THE MIX? ------- 0.5-1.5% Preservative (check the guidelines for your chosen preservative - if using more or less than 1%, alter the percentage soft oils) ------Fragrance - I used 1% per our guidelines. Adjust percentage of soft oils if using more or less 67% Exfoliants ( I used Pumice and a mix of sea salts - you can use sugar) Thank you very much and keep doing great products!!
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 4 жыл бұрын
Mine looks fluid until the oils cool and set but it's set once cooled. Definitely not for tubes. You may have problems using just Cetearyl alcohol as it is only one part of a an emulsifing wax. Using only that could make it too solid. With regards to altering soft oils, your chosen preservative may have different usage rates to mine so use what yours says and make up the rest of the % in oils. Same with scent - I used Essential oil which allowed me 1% but a fragrance oil could be used at higher so use less oil.

Very unlucky, my last trial was with grapeseed oil and fractionated coconut oil but when it does not lather well, feels kind of “waxy” the skin, must dry it with paper towel, what kind of oil should use? Thank you (i used all material described and same %)
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 4 жыл бұрын
This won't lather as there is no surfactant in it. It's an emulsified scrub. It will feel oily and when washed off with water it will emulsify into a lotion and the feet will need to be dried. The oils you are using sound fine to me.

Hi, thank you so much for sharing this lovely recipe. Got a couple of questions, a) can you suggest an alternative to pumice powder? B) can it be made without preservatives?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. You can add any exfoliants you want or just add more salt. This product comes into contact with water so i would not omit the preservative.

Hello, can´t fin emulsifying wax, what can I use instead? thank you
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 4 жыл бұрын
Which country are you in? Emulsifing waxes should be fairly easy to access as they are key to making water based emulsion. There are lots of varieties. I see you also ask if you can use BTMS. It is used as an emulsifier but it's not one I've used for that purpose. It has cetearyl alcohol in its make up which is one of the ingredients in the one I use. Best to make a small batch and see 😊

I understand, live in méxico (province) I found a few good companies that have several waxes for cosmetic purposes. One asked what is the purpose in the formula so they Can offer the most suitable. Please let me know what exactly the function of it. Thank and appreciate your kind attention to my inquiries. Regards
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 4 жыл бұрын
@@guadalupealcocer1262 the emulsifing wax is used to allow the oils in the scrub to emulsify when you introduce water during the foot treatment. This will allow the oils to cleanly wash away from the skin.

I tried this without the colorant and it was a nice color. But then after a couple of weeks it slowly turned this nasty green color. Very unattractive. And all my ingredients were recently purchased. Should I just use a colorant? I know you mentioned it turning darker with the colorant also. I just didn't expect color change after so many days. Otherwise it's really a great recipe.
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 3 жыл бұрын
I do recommend a colour in particular green. The pumice will darken in colour as it soaks up the oils.

In some instances salt can be self preserving but not in this case. There needs to be the right balance of ingredients to be self preserving

@@SoyandShea Ok so salt is a natural preservative!! Got it.
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea Жыл бұрын
@@shanesubanstudio3483 It naturally preserves itself but is not used as a preservative in products. The only time this would be applicable is if you were making salt water/brine. If you have enough salt in water and nothing else, it will be self preserving. However, if you do not have the right ratio of salt to water or have other ingredients that bacteria thrive in, it will not preserve.
