No can do. The same as lending a face for a product, if a voice actor has their contract terminated, the company has no right to use their voice. That's why voice actors are fighting for their right to disallow using their voice for AI. Because if they do, despite them not being in contract anymore, their voice will still be used.

@@cjcatague2607 I'd say it's because the tone of her voice back then added a little more personality, so removing that tone feels like it removed a part of her personality (even if that part wasn't canon and was only because of the VA)

I imagine they hired the former VA with the intention of that VA basically making the voice for what Tingyun should sound like (and this goes for voice acting in general). Maybe it's not canon, but the way a voice actor voices a character should establish their personality and give a little insight because how someone talks can say a lot about someone (I'm not saying it's the one determining factor, but it helps us understand a character better by the way they talk). People will also hear voice acting more than actually reading about the character's backstory so establishing all of that and then changing it is naturally going to throw people off.

The new VA sounds more high-pitched voicing Tingyun compared to how she voices Fugue which I don't think works very well considering how Fugue's deeper and mature voice fits Fugue's character as someone who is lost and confused and has a more mellow outlook on life. I think the new VA is more suited (and probably more comfortable) going deeper for Fugue since she sounds so natural there but not used to going higher for Tingyun which makes it jarring.

@@jmr8464 Which is why we're not judging Fugue but we're judging Tingyun's new voice. Fugue didn't have an established voice until Anya did that. I'm not familiar enough with Laci's work to judge if she can do a deep voice, but Anya's deep voice for Fugue and high-pitched voice for Tingyun tells me she's more comfortable and more natural doing the deep voice. Now that Tingyun also got replaced though, it's likely that Laci never got the chance to try and voice her take on Fugue.....

I used my Fugue funds for Sunday immediately after hearing this lol. The main reason i wanted fugue was because I was so excited to hear new voicelines from her in her old en voice but now I don't even know who this Tingyun is lol. Not the VAs fault, of course. I hope everyone else enjoys her tho.

@@CipherousOwU With the studio most likely. Tingyun's former VA actually had one voiceline in 2.5 when they teased her return meaning she got recast sometime between 2.5 and 2.6. The strike had already started by 2.5 so I don't think the strike is the reason why, or else a lot of characters would have missing voices right now since the strike had started sometime during 2.3 I believe.

I agree. The line deliveries are pretty flat or too serious in some. No playful, cunning, cheekiness to the extent of the old one. There’s some sprinkles but not right. It’s as if the voice was trying to be Fugue, not as Tingyun.

The old one proved way better, but the voice change was due to the SAG-AFTRA video game strike. It’s upsetting for Laci Morgan not to get recast despite her pleas. The companies are deliberately replacing the voice actors with the ones that did not go into the strike.

Not sure if it was because of the strike when half the characters are voiced and the other half aren't (unless that other half had their voicelines recorded wayyy ahead of time). I agree with your second point though, I'd imagine they're now specifically looking for different VAs not involved in the strike to either replace old characters or voice new ones.

I actually don't mind that, the new voice isn't as bad as some previous va changes (Argenti and huohuo, who's new voices I've actually came to like now). Although I actually prefer her new voice for 2x speed, I really disliked how tingyun use to sound in 2x speed 😅 But I wonder why they've changed it? No doubt the new va is also quite good but is there something on their contract that they absolutely cannot imitate the old va's energy? It's like they CAN 100% imitate the old va but there is somehow something that is preventing them to do that.

I agree with you, I imagine there is something like that in the clause for their contract. It's probably a voice acting thing in general to honor the old VA's work to keep it unique since a voice actor is essentially giving life to a non-real character which means every VA deserves to have their own take on how they voice a certain character just like how we as people all have different voices and personalities. The thing that makes replacements tricky though is that the first VA establishes the personality, tone, etc, of the character so a new replacement VA introducing a new tone feels off because the character has a set personality (designed by the devs) that the original VA already nailed.
