Imagine a Farmer X (or any alox knives) with scale tools (tweezers etc.) and back tools (corkscrew, awl etc.). I love my Huntsman but I would be willing to pay premium for a SAK like that! (Please Victorinox, make it happen)

The Huntsman, the Fieldmaster, and the Tinker Deluxe are all the same price and I think the Tinker is best (Philips, pliers, scissors), the Fieldmaster (Philips, saw, scissors) then the Huntsman (corkscrew, saw, scissors). The Farmer X definitely has a better reamer, it's a surprisingly usable tool, strong, sharp, and pretty serious at boring a hole. The Farmer X definitely seems sturdier and the blade is thicker but it's worth noting that the cellidor (plastic) models' scales are mounted to a steel liner that isn't present on the all-aluminum Alox. Is the aluminum-only stronger than plastic mounted to steel? And if so how much?

I ended up buying huntsman. There was a discount and in the end was 2 times cheaper than alox farmer x. Also small blade is super useful and it is missing on farmer. Once again thanks for the comparison :)@@K4TAndMore

Generally speaking, the alox knives are geared more towards aesthetics and simplicity. They seem to be designed as showpieces whereas the cellidor models are your everyday workhorses with maxiumum versatility & features. The irony here is that the alox scales are actually more durable, so they will hold up better under heavy use. In reality, Victorinox could easily offer a variety of alox scales to mod any cellidor model which would give you the best of both worlds. (SwissBianco has done some of this but in very limited scope.) I also wish they would make a few more models of alox that offer different tool combinations because even with the recent Farmer X, etc. it's still a pretty limited selection.

It's true that the tool combination is limited with Alox. And sometimes even with cellidor there is something missing or that you don't need.

@@K4TAndMore Yes, I read alot of comments that many have no use for the corkscrew and I don't either. Two tools I'd like to see more often are the combo tool (to save space & weight) and the inline phillips driver. Both of these seem very useful. Also, I'm not sure why the wood, metal or even nail files are so rare on the 91mm SAKs?

Wrong, it's the opposite! Alox models begin with the Original Swiss Army knife, where they got their name from too! The first Alox model, was the Soldier, now they call it Alox Pioneer. They where designed as everyday workhorses, for the common Soldier, who needed screwdrivers to maintain and fix his rifle/weapons etc and the Can opener to be able to eat Army's can food! That was the original idea! The fact they kept the Alox models more simple with less tools, is becasue the more complicated you make a tool especially a knife, the more easy it is to break, get damage or whetever else. Simplicity always wins for many other reasons too, but that's another story!! Stay safe!

@@greekveteran2715 Thanks for your comments. I get what you're saying in terms of their origins and military use. I was speaking more to the modern perceptions & practical use, and the way SAKs are marketed nowadays. The Alox models are tougher but Victorinox seems to present them more like showpieces with alot of expensive special editions in pretty colors. They only recently even added scissors to the alox line (in modern times anyway) which alot of people would consider their most used tool. Don't get me wrong I like both lines, but personally I can get more things done with cellidor models because they typically have more of the tools I need and I'm not as concerned about them getting scratched or abused. You can just replace the cellidor scales - can't do that with alox.

That's a really hard question, I can't really answer. I like Huntsman cause there is corkscrew mini screwdriver, you have the tools in the scales and the hook. On the other hand Alox are just beautiful and a little sturdier and I really like the in-line reamer/awl. It is so effective for many things. I can't say which one I prefer as I use both (not in the same time). Do I like more the Huntsman than Fieldmaster? That's an easy question for me, I talked a lot in my videos about the back Philips. I don't really like it, I don't find it really handy and the other reason is I use the corkscrew for many things (such as untying knots) and you can carry the mini screwdriver which I use a lot too. Furthermore there is the in-line philips so you can have both philips and corkscrew. Plus the in-line philips is so much handier. So no doubts I prefer Huntsman over Fieldmaster the only difference being corkscrew/back philips.

@@K4TAndMore yes I love the driver on the back over the corkscrew because when working with the small blade the corkscrew is not very comfortable where the driver on the fieldmasder or tinker model is very nice for wood carving 👌 but when the small size driver is in the corkscrew is much more comfortable the victorinox farmer x is the weekend EDC love it as well thanks for sharing this one with us 👍

I love it the farme x I love to look at it But honestly I would go for the huntsman same scissors same saw thicker blade and a reamer for the farmer x I bought ithe farmer x and I think I will give it back to the store I have a Bandam allox a solo that I use in the house I combine the spirit with a waiter perfect combo I have a manager always on my keychain I have a wenger everest for camping Yeah this reamer is beautiful But truth not so useful when you have it already on the plastic scales Small blade is wonderfull too that’s why sometimes I use handyman instead of spirit Handyman in the pocket and manager on the keychain is a perfection too even though a Ralye would be better no need for two scissors I think That a manager on a key chain is the base combined with waiter or spartan ithe perfect urban edc

@@apmikalogran i don't agree with you i think that the victorinox farmer x is an outstanding Swiss army knife with a great balance of tools also it's got much more different than just the thicker blade and all also it's got nickel silver liners much better and stronger also much bigger size pins also much stronger back springs also the inline all is the best in the business also those lovely alox scales very strong also the bigger size driver bigger size blade and stronger for hard work the victorinox farmer x is a fantastic Swiss army knife it's the reason why the 🪖🇨🇭🪖 soldiers used it for many years I've also got the older version soldiers knife with the brass liners it's also very strong i also love the victorinox hunsman but I'm just saying thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊👍

I was so excited when Victorinox came out with the Farmer X, the 93mm line of knives are very durable. My first knife was a Huntsman, I have always liked having both the scissors and the saw on my knife. with the addition of Tortoise Gear’s fire starters for Swiss Army knives, it’s a hard choice whether to carry the Huntsman or Farmer X. The fire starting capability of Huntsman with a firefly or fireant or the more rugged 93mm alox knife with it’s great out the end, reamer/awl

The alox reamer doesn't have a sewing hole in it. Starting a hole in wood with a reamer and finishing the hole with the saw blade is easier and you can make a bigger hole as well as deeper.

Just buy a very cheap 5cm lenght velcro tape for the Molle system with a carabiner. Then, sew the tape from the both sides on the edges. You will have a keychain that can carry tweezers, toothpick, pin, fish hook, glasses screwdriver

The Huntsman has a greater range of useful tools and can be bought with the dull matt, red, non slip scales. The Victorinox SAK are well built and can survive sustained usage, and that's certainly been my experience over the last 47 years of EDC'ing my Victorinox Swiss Champ! The Hunstman is unequalled in quality, size and capabilities, and is accessible to virtually everybody, and by not abusing it will last. Victorinox SAK can be repaired if damaged, with only the small cost of postage needing to be paid. In 47 years I have used this service twice, both times after letting someone use my SAK. The corkscrew and woodsaw fell victim to the ignorance and impatience of the people I let use it (two instances many years apart). Since I stopped letting others use my gear nothing else got broken. The Alox series are undeniably stronger than the traditional plastic scale knives, but by not abusing the tool they perform perfectly and have useful additional tools. With gear, the only opinion that matters is that of the buyer/owner/user, so whichever you choose, it'll be whatever works for you.

I gave my farmerx back in order to get a locksmith always a manager on my key ring ofcourse huntsman is better than farmerx Huntsman is superior the reamer doesn’t make big difference You get reamer in huntsman and the extra on the scales plus the small blade which is great tool almost most important than the main blade l Ok allox shines but it doesn’t worth it Change scales on the huntsman if you want something that shines

There is absolutely no question that the Huntsman is better. It has more tools.
