The only reason they wouldn't hear it is from children who refuse to let any game be inspired by Cuphead because they just slam the label of "ripoff" on it instead of fairly assessing the game for what it is. While simultaneously ignoring the fact that every world war shooting game is exactly the same but somehow not labeled as a ripoff, to give an example. Personally me and my wife cannot wait to play this together, we love Cuphead and there's absolutely nothing wrong with having another game that scratches a similar itch but with its own identity.

@@cookiesontoast9981 To be honest, it's not really a copycat. It's a Cuphead fangame that's quite evident, and I'm rather confident that Studio MDHR will adopt a stance similar to Scott Cawthon's, permitting the creation of fangames without resorting to takedowns.

The game looks amazing. The only thing that needs adjusting is the feedback when the boss is hit with a projectile from the player. Increase the iterations of blinks when hit by projectiles. Other than that I think with the addition of SFX during actual gameplay the game will feel a lot more immersive and fun.

Except "what they went through" was essentially allegations of plagiarism. Not just the visual style, but literally identical gameplay. They're not heroes for tweaking this thing just enough to get it released.

there is clearly effort, visuals like that don't come like that out of thin air, but it is near imposable to separate it from its source material, I mean, just look at the gameplay! about the only thing I can pick out that someone could say is "definitely EP" is the main character (of witch, yeah, no duh, they arrent stupid) and that the game is noticeably easier looking, of witch, woooow, you made easier Cuphead, congratulations! if they went for a different esthetic (like that of legacy cartoon network such as Ren and Stimpy) or an ultra-stylized version of the same concept, like the wonderful world of Micky mouse, because if that where the case this would have something to offer, but instead this game will continue to grow in the shadows, or worse, never get to bloom

Yes, I noticed this too. My worry is that it's covering up an unstable part of this boss (or something that is visually unappealing) . Note that, after that image, it abruptly cuts to the middle of the next phase. I've been following this game closely the last few years, and I'll be disappointed if major corners were cut for the release of this game.

Everything looks great but their going to have to change the flashing when they get hit it’s really hard to tell when the enemy is getting hit or not. I feel like that little upgrade would really help the game.

I personally am looking forward to this game. I don't think that a game being extremely similar to another game is a problem - this happened with Hollow Knight and Crowsworn aswell, but luckily people have gotten over that. Now I don't want to be facetious - I don't think that this is the same level of quality as any of the games I mentioned - but still, I think it will be a fun time, and I can tell everyone working on it truly cares about what they're making. If it was intended to be a cheap knockoff... well it wouldn't have took so long to release. I'll be adding it to my Switch Wishlist for sure!

I had that same feeling of an exciting and fun game but now that expectation ruined a bad game with horrible controls horrible bosses everything is horrible literally in the first trailer the game looked better than when they released it I think it was all a scam and wasted money because it costs almost the same as Cuphead What a pity that a game with a lot of potential ended like this.

I mean what I'm about to say as constructive critiscism. I think the game feels too slugish? It feels like you're trying to showcase all the amazing art you guys have done, but it feels like it is being played at half speed. Pacing and timing are important parts of animation and game design, so I'd look into that if I had the time. That being said, this is really really impressive and I am excited to try this game out once it gets released. Amazing work!

Honestly as long as game plays good- it should be fine. As for things like the quality of the style- very debatable, its obviously more digitized compared to Cuphead (for budget likely). Obviously it would feel very off for audiences directly from Cuphead, but, just maybe, not so much for average person as so far it does seem people don't mind. The mechanics are similar but do they have mildly unique ones to the game, since reminder it is a fan game if anything, and assuming its the game is FREE, we have little reason to care if the mechanics are similar (similar case like pizza tower to sugary spire). I feel like a lot of the backlash if anything just appears from the quality of the animation, mechanics, and people assuming it is trying to be its own product. As long as its free, fun, and honest, there is nothing wrong with the game. Objectively the plagiarism people like to point or people defend against erodes into 'yeah, but its a fangame', maybe they could have made their own game, but they decided to make a homage to Cuphead. (Well, I hope at least.)

Coming here after the game's release, just got done beating the game. After putting in some thought for this review, I can only say this; I wish I beat the game faster. . . so I could refund it. To put it simple, and no offense towards the devs, but this game is not worth your time. It's clear the devs focused more on trying to BE CupHead rather than making a good game, and so bugs and general issues are prevalent. The run-and-guns are only hard because of jacked enemy spawns; having 11 enemies float after you while random projectiles fly across the screen is horrible game design and honestly really hard to look past. On the other hand, while some of the bosses are cool in concept, they're not very fun either. Pair the artificial difficulty with the absolutely horrendous controls, and you've got yourself one of the worst games to come out this year. Side note: I've been supporting this game since day one. Seeing it come out in such a state really makes it hard to keep faith in the devs--it also makes it really hard to believe this wasn't meant to be a shameless cuphead clone.
