I have recently been referred by my doctor for assessment for Alzheimer’s. I am 63. I want to do ANYTHING I reasonably can at this point. I have been doing intermittent fasting, using overnight as part of a 16 hour fast. Are there studies comparing overnight vs daytime fasting for cognitive health?

I don’t have a knowledgeable, succinct response to your specific question but I strongly encourage you to continue along your line of enquiry. I suspect that looking into the links between circadian rhythm, autophagy, and what happens while the body rests and repairs during sleep, will lead to a view that fasting after “dinner” and overnight is the most beneficial. There’s also growing information about probiotics which are particularly beneficial for the brain, sometimes called “psychobiotics”. Thankfully we are truly in the Information age and access to solid sources of relevant information is now available to you. Wishing you well on your journey of discovery and recovery ❤️🩹

The whole video is great, but I think my favorite is @23:44. Do what you can, you don't need to do all the things, and there is no miracle solution. The functional space needs more of this messaging!

I've been doing IF for 5 years, playing with prolonged fasts 4 years. I feel my absolute cognitive best and gut best on fasting days!! I get so much more done and feel so much happier on fasting days. my brain is on fire, in a good way!

Low FODMAP, probiotics and turmeric powder changed my life. Thank you for this. Turmeric is amazing, half a teaspoon mixed with a shot of water (disgusting by the way so be warned) totally replaced my acid inhibitors. I haven't used them for over a month. Particularly useful when I have a regular FODMAP cheat meal.

I bet there are some studies showing the benefits of high quality sleep for cognitive function. Good sleep really helps improve my mood and mental function... Also, could a super food smoothie be used in place of a multivitamin? I drink a super food smoothie everyday but don't take a multivitamin.

IF TIP: while fasting during the day/morning & eating afternoon/evening is a popular and easy, that is not a requirement! try eating breakfast & lunch and skip dinner instead. or eat mid-morning and mid-afternoon. or better yet, keep changing it up to keep your body on its toes!

Agreed. IF can be flexible! That's what's great about it.

Just to clarify … are supplements considered processed. And may I ask about effect of fasting on hashimotos / hypothyroidism and women in menopause now touted negatively TIA

Huh, i was wondering why I’ve been seeing so many beetroot supplements out there recently. This explains it! Out of curiosity…. Why not just eat beets? Did I miss that part?

I have either a severe histamine intolerance or MCAS from covid. I’m assuming it’s just a intolerance because my gut got destroyed. Basically I have no good gut bacteria left and my reactions to histamine are extreme. I have been watching your videos on how to restore my body

There's definitely a large amount of people who thrive on carnivore. But from my experience with patients at the clinic, it doesn't work for every person. I'm glad that you were able to find some relief for your brain fog by finding a diet that works for you though :)

Great video. Primary concerns: Do the studies on fish oil disclose and/or discuss the source of the oil (wild, farmed, by-catch, etc,.,) and discuss the sustainability aspects of those for a global population? Aren't there potentially major concerns with pollutants, plastics, forever chemicals, heavy metals, antibiotics, etc., with fish oil, especially from farmed sources? Do any of the papers discuss the overall contaminant risks in the oceans from human activity? I don't want to enjoy healthy, robust short-term cognition if i am simultaneously accumulating a dangerous toxic load that will impair me as i age.

How do foods high in lectin impact histamine levels? I'm experimenting with a low FODMAP and low lectin diet to improve my gut health. Have you, or do you plan on covering any information as it relates to lectins and their impact on the body? I'd love to learn more about this topic.

Yes, we are. In short, I think the lectin piece has been highly exaggerated.

You don't make sense about your conclusion from the IF experience you had. It doesn't mean that you should no longer IF. Maybe you need to load early in the day and fast later, not necessarily altogether stop fasting.
@kunverjihirani27610 ай бұрын
All good topics you touched on …. BUT you seems to be out of date or inexperienced with the latest fasting research! Look into ETRF where you stop eating 3pm or 4pm …. eating huge meals late at night has always been a recipe for disaster! 😊👍🙏
