Great content Dr. Ruscio, I Have been battling IBS-C for a long time. I'm very health conscious and exercise regularly. However in the last 12 years since the start of my digestive issues I have been leaning toward intermittent fasting 16/8, lower carb. I do get tired but it help me at least start my day where i can at least eat. The last year and a half has been not good with IBS symptoms. Again your videos helped a lot and started taking different probiotics (suppl and from foods), low FODMAP, AT the end of the day I feel defeated because I'm very active/athletic, I get really hungry then I eat consciously as above mentioned and still get so bloated/Fatigue/lethargic, or brain fog. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I have every symptom of leaky gut - and for pretty much 1 yr before I figured this out. (suspected dehydration due to coffee intake for const - into diarr as I'd have to use a tea to get things moving). Long story short I've cut everything except.. the high fodmaps as my "snacks" - no wonder I'm having flare ups with avocado, onions & garlic - also banana & pineapple for bromelain.. I'm just scaling this back since I was doing so well the past 3 weeks

So....I have so many of these symptoms of "leaky gut".....AND....GERD...and possibly "Barret's Disease" of the esophagus....AND...histamine intolerance/overload (acute chronic urticaria).....possibly SIBO/SIFO....fatty liver....possible gallstones(again) and/or bile sludge....pancreatitis....tinnitus....tried going Keto again beginning of this year....but the tinnitus flared extremely loud....then urticaria sprung forth all over my skin from top to head to tip of toes!.... so doing online research of multiple You Tube Doctors...I should NOT eat any High Histamine foods...NO High Oxalate foods....NO spicy foods.....and now NO High FODMAP foods....and I ALWAYS have drank filtered water......do you think breathing air is still OK? or should I stop doing that too?!

Yep I'm seeing a GI doc and a GI surgeon and neither one seem to have a clue I don't know if I have leaky gut but a couple of the symptoms fit mostly my stomach hurts and I do get a bloating feeling . I've had about every test there is but the main thing is that none of the doctors listen to me and everything they have given me makes it worse. The only thing the GI Doc ever came up with IBS and I don't believe that is my problem when I tell him he just cops an attitude My main symptoms are Stomach pain (like I had an ulcer, 15 years ago I had an ulcer from too many NSAID's ) no energy some bloating

You need to do a KZbin search for "Dr Davis" who successfully approaches the problem through the gut microbiome by replacing certain gut bacteria that have been lost due to antibiotics and other medications through the years. It actually works. Loss of good gut bacteria is what causes food intolerance's in the first place. This guy here is full of crap and just working around the edges instead of addressing the root cause. Eating certain foods may bring relief, but they don't solve the problem. It worked for me and most others after years of problems.

I’m really sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with leaky gut, especially in combination with menopause and the impacts of antibiotics and ibuprofen. Leaky gut can indeed be a tough condition to manage, and it's understandable to feel overwhelmed with all that's going on. It’s crucial to focus on healing the gut lining through a combination of dietary changes, stress management, and possibly targeted supplements. A diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods, such as leafy greens, bone broth, and probiotics, can be beneficial. Addressing stress and ensuring proper hydration also play a key role in gut health. Navigating these changes can be complex, but with the right strategies and support, improvement is definitely possible.

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles with IBS and the complications it has caused, like diastasis recti and the constant worry about severe bloating. It sounds incredibly challenging to manage both a prediabetic condition and a low-FODMAP vegetarian diet. Finding the right balance can be tough, especially when dealing with restrictive diets and the need for proper nutrition. To support your health journey, it might help to work with a nutritionist who specializes in low-FODMAP and vegetarian diets to ensure you're getting all the necessary nutrients while managing your symptoms. Keeping a detailed food and symptom diary can also help pinpoint specific triggers and make it easier to adjust your diet. Remember, you're not alone, and there are people and resources out there that can help guide you through this. Stay hopeful, and take it one step at a time. You're on the right path!

Do a KZbin search for "Dr Davis" who blows this know nothing Dr out of the water. Food alone may bring some relief, but it won't solve the root cause, which is a lack of good gut bacteria that has been lost through years of antibiotics and other gut bacteria killing medications. Replacing the good gut bacteria through mega doses inside of homemade yogurt is the key and it worked for me after years of trying various methods. Nothing else even come close. This Dr just toys around the edges and does nothing about the root cause. BTW, you can also make Dr Davis yogurt with coconut milk if you want to avoid dairy.

Regarding Glutamine, there's a fair amount of research on how it feeds cancer cells and tumor growth. As someone who is currently in remission with CLL (Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia) I have to wonder if supplementation with Glutamine might shorten my progression free survival time. I also wonder if this could be a concern for others in remission from forms of cancer.

Hi Dr. Ruscio. As an experienced figure in the field of gut health, what would you say to a campaign to rename IBS to DBS/DBD? ‘Dysfunctional Bowel Syndrome/Disorder’. The term ‘irritable’ to describe a chronic condition almost seems to trivialise the health implications of the condition. The idea that our gut gets ‘irritated’ doesn’t begin to capture just how unpleasant it can be. It also has so many more implications on general health as you have so extensively highlighted in your videos. I’d be very happy to see the condition reevaluated in this vain. I’d be interested in your thoughts. Many thanks for reading and keep up the great work.

Michael, what are your thoughts on the connection between glycine rich food for supporting gut lining and the idea of addressing the seemingly problematic and ubiquitous methionine excess: not through the seemingly straightforward measure of directly restricting methionine, but through improving glycine to methionine ratio (which turns out to perhaps be the superior way of addressing excess methionine / homocysteine)...?

Im hopeful that I can get an answer here that might help others as well. One of my biggest struggles is keeping track of optimal times to eat and what foods to not introduce TOGETHER. Ive learned that some vitamins compete with each other if taken at the same time . Are there foods in this list that need to be spaced from each other due to their function? Not necessarily if there are adverse effects , but rather if certain foods will neutralize each others effectiveness if taken together.

It all gets a bit tricky - the candida led to leaky gut. While some candida diet recommendations fit with lowfodmap there are some that are problematic. eg broccoli etc, grains such as corn, spelt, the use of sugar as in 85% chocolate. Actually Im confused...after months of antifungals, probiotics, anti candida diet no change and my stomach does not feel happy! Interesting though when I see Ive been leaning to lowfodmap foods intuitively.

Its hard to know whats true… i just listened to the video about how bad fermented foods are for leaky gut, especially if you have bacterial overgrowth. 😮 i guess literally everybody must go by own trial and error. Thx for great video.

I eat too many after Lyme diagnoses and Anti biotic rounds. Messed me up bad. Too much too soon. To much fiber, too many ferments. I eat garlic pickles daily.. 😅 there is no one size fits all. bacteria leaves and pathogens levels differ in each of us. I had to stop over doing it to feel better faster. Praying they find more sensitive tests soon!

AIP, low fodmap, low histamines/salicylate/oxalate, I am very confused. Also, with MCAS/histamine, it’s hard to tolerate probiotics and fermented food. When leaky gut is severe especially bec of antibiotics, you have extreme sensitivities to food in general, supplements and prescriptions. Hope they come up with something like FMT or better than that. Do you have any recommendations for probiotics suppository? I may do elemental diet but it didn’t help before maybe bec I wasn’t told to take any probiotics as it feeds Sibo.

Managing leaky gut and sensitivities, especially with MCAS and histamine intolerance, can indeed be complex. Given your situation, here are a few recommendations: Probiotic Suppositories: These can be a good option when oral probiotics are difficult to tolerate. Some people find relief with brands like Klaire Labs Probiotic Suppositories or Bio-Kult Infantis. It’s essential to choose products that are free from common allergens and additives that might trigger your symptoms. Elemental Diet: If you decide to try an elemental diet again, it might be worth working with a healthcare professional who can guide you through the process and ensure that you’re using it correctly, including any necessary supplements. Sometimes, addressing underlying conditions like SIBO or dysbiosis with appropriate treatments can make a difference. GI-MAP stool testing: While this isn't always a perfect solution, it can shed some real light on what's ACTUALLY going on in your microbiome. Custom Probiotic Formulas: For those with extreme sensitivities, some practitioners offer custom probiotic blends tailored to individual needs. These can sometimes be more tolerable and effective. Gut-Healing Supplements: Consider supplements like L-glutamine, zinc carnosine, and collagen peptides, which can support gut healing without exacerbating sensitivities. Consult a Specialist: Since your situation is quite complex, working with a specialist who has experience in managing severe cases of leaky gut, MCAS, and histamine intolerance can provide you with personalized strategies and adjustments. It’s a tough journey, but with the right approach and support, you can find strategies that work for you. Hang in there!

@beth4698 -you are so right. It can be so confusing. So much conflicting information. I have found that when a person has so many food sensitivities, its usually dysbiosis in the gut. Do you mind if I ask what you're most annoying symptoms are?

@@Wendy-Frazier Just some information I recently learned. Underlying latent viruses can cause a myriad of symptoms, and mine were due to the herpes virus type 1 and 2. Women can have it and not even know. .I'm now on antiviral and no more symptoms.. best for everyone to get testes for latent viruses that reactivate and cause symptoms.

@@Themostmercifulrabb yes I agree. I run a GI-MAP test for my clients that tests for the DNA of virus/bacteria/parasite etc.. it’s very comprehensive- the best I have seen. I’m so glad you’re feeling better.

I was suspected that I probably have leaky gut as i am only 50 kg when I tried eat more carb I have high glucose instead of gaining weight, bloating constipation low trigleserida. Now I limit my food for chicken (boiled) fish pumpkin, carrot, chia seed avocado. Supplemented with MCT, glutathione, collagen, probiotik, enzyme, omega 3 vitamin d, l glutamine. I enter my 3rd month, I no longer have bloating bloating, skin improved, no acne, my hemorrhoids is gone. Yet i go to toilet about once in 5 days but I don't have any difficulty experience when in the toilet. Is that still okay?
