Yes shade cloth will make all the difference with your maters and cucs. Beans I am the only one that eats green yellow purple beans in our family of 6 (just hubby and I now ) I did think about not growing beans anymore BUT decided to grow them as cover crops. Worked out REALLY well. Just chop and drop.Summer May/June Fl here I start cowpeas/southern beans my beds have a living mulch and chop and drop to plant in Sept. YES you've had great success !!!!
