I taught middle school and the annual end-of-the-year locker clean out was this times 100!!! I would just walk around handing out bags telling them they could NOT leave anything in the locker. Many missing assignments were also found with the predictable line " can I still get credit for this?"😂

Not lost and found but reminded my of one of my most embarrassing moments of middle school! When I was in the 6th grade I would walk to school and would feed a horse that was in a pasture on my way to school. One day I grabbed a handful of raisins to feed the horse and decided to save half in the back pocket of my white jeans to feed it on the way home. A few hours into school and a teacher quietly came up to me and asked if I needed to go see the nurse. I realized the raisins were all squished in my back pocket and the teacher thought I started my womanly friend. Talk about mortifying! I kept trying to explain it was raisins and she just kept repeating that everything will be fine. 😂

I'm a Scouter and the things that end up lost at camp are mind boggling. One kid spent an entire weekend claiming to have no gear at all only to claim their untouched bag from the lost and found on the last day. Another two went home accidentally wearing each other's underwear- and they were at least two sizes apart.

This was my sister's life with my niece (and before her, my nephew, and before that ... who knows...) :) This is SO TRUE! And, your son's giggles undid me. WHAT A CUTIE! :) As for odd things found - One student had lost THREE retainers, two pairs of glasses (??) and, oddly enough, one slipper,, left from "pajama day", though how he managed to only lose one when he'd supposedly came to school wearing them on his feet remains a mystery. A teacher I knew found in HER desk, a handful of reading glasses, all apparently lost, and her wedding ring (true story) that she took off one day when her fingers were swollen. She was SURE she'd lost it on vacation. Nope. Just waited in the desk drawer that she'd opened every single day.

It really is a good demonstration of how kids have too much stuff these days. If they lose an Adidas hoodie, they have 5 more to wear. As a teacher, I am always astonished at the number of expensive items left behind. As a parent, I grill my kids, “Where’s your hoodie?? What do you mean you can’t remember?? Where did you look? Did you have gym indoors? Or out? It better not be sitting out on the field somewhere!!” 😂😂😂

Taught school for 31 years. The amount of stuff in lost and never found at the end of the year was always amazing. 40-50 water bottles, 10-20 lunch boxes, $500 designer coats, enough clothing items to fill the back of a pick up. All the left overs after school was out would be donated either to our clothing bank or Goodwill. 31 years, never had to buy a water bottle:)

True story. Summer of my freshmen year of high school, I took driver's Ed as summer school thru my high school. One day I left my wallet in the car which really only contained a couple of dollars and my social security card. Of course my wallet was nowhere to be found. On the last day of my senior year of high school, I got sent to the office for flipping a pen. I was looking thru the lost and found and found my Sociial security card there. It had been there since that summer of my freshmen year.

I had to wear headgear, too. Ugh. After a short time of wearing it to school, I drew the line and told my folks I would only wear it at home. And I did once lose my retainer - at a luncheonette below my orthodontist's office after a check-up. I put it on a napkin and they cleared it away. When we realized what happened, we drove back there and they let my mom dig through the food-filled garbage cans until she found it.

@@tinaperez7393 the rest was the usual water bottles, some jackets, lunchboxes, a swimsuit. There may have been a shirt too actually, but since the school had a few times a year where we would do water themed activities and my sibling went to dance afterwards, it wasn’t that weird. And honestly those two things and the fact that we had to dress nice on Fridays and therefore bring appropriate clothes if we had PE (at least bottoms because any biologically female student had to wear a skirt or dress but frequently shirts as well) there’s likely a logical reason and everyone in the family knows it, but it’s still fun because it’s so weird. After a certain point our mom made sure that my sibling’s pants were put back on after getting ready for dance in the school bathroom before they came out to the pick up area, probably after the pants got lost but possibly because of how much skin a leotard and ballet skirt show and the school had a strict dress code if we didn’t have water based activities planned and it’s not entirely appropriate for running around in

My son had adhd(he grew out of it) and the volume of items he lost over the years was monumental. We’re talking two bicycles, 4 iPhones, 6 or 7 winter coats, and the amount of shoes he lost was in the 20’s. He was an expensive young kid, but a really pretty good 22yr old. He’s still costing me $20every couple weeks. The question was asked how could get home from school without any of these items, and you know the answer of course…. “I don’t know”.

I don’t think it’s possible to grow out of adhd. It’s a neurological disorder that you are born with. It may look different as an adult compared to when you’re a child, but it’s still there. I say this as an adult with adhd who was diagnosed as a child.

I’m a Special Needs & Gifted Needs teacher, so you can imagine when some of the kids’ lockers. Sometimes, a student would open their locker, books, toys, clothes & food would spill out! One of my students (upper elementary), had weekly backpack & desk organizing on Friday mornings. I’d help him create 4 piles: 1.Keep at school 2. Bring home 3. Recycle 4. Throw away And when there was a big project, the in-progress project & materials separate from the rest of the piles. Plus, the “bring home” would also have a “keep it home” which included expensive electronics & toys. One time, he had peanut butter cups-we had some students who had severe (& 1 kid could go into anaphylactic shock by touching something that had tree nut & peanut oil residue). It really helped him. 🤩 And it made me feel better that I’m not the most disorganized person. 😸

Ha ha ha! My dad was a teacher, and we NEVER bought plastic storage containers. Once it was all about to be shipped off, he would find several every year. Wash them up. Good as new. We did NOT have a ton of money with only one parent working & 4 kids (in the 80s). Oooh, and office stuff, like almost brand new pencil cases, mini-staplers, cute erasers, etc. As kids, we thought this was great!! He taught one district over, so it wasn’t like the kid who left it behind was around to point out (the following September) we got it from lost & found. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My Tupperware and other food storage containers, my word! How many I have found in my kids’ school’s lost and found over the years! Also past due assignments and actual library books at the end of year locker clean-out 😖 Also the usual single gloves 🧤 and mittens which we had already replaced with new pairs…

Not going to lie, this is hilarious because it is so true. I manage a restaurant and the majority of my night staff are high schoolers. I literally just walked around Sunday, filled a box full of 'missing' clothes and put on the break table with a sign on it. I do this TWICE a year, once before summer and once at Christmas break. I had six coats, four shirts, a pair of shorts, and a shoe. From where my high schoolers come in and change in the employee bathroom after school and forget their clothes. That was after we loaded one kid up with a bag of clothes. Our rule is they have a week to get it once it goes in the box and then everything else gets donated. It rarely takes a week.

Logician (INTP) my son was helping teach AP biology at 13, but literally would forget to put his shoes on before leaving the house to go to the store or on a field trip. I am not joking! His mind is always working to understand science and even as a child he would "play" with cancer data looking for a cure and had a hard time being interrupted to properly do daily tasks "WELL." It's the absent-minded professor type, and yes, unmedicated ADD. My son is happier and more productive that way, even if the adults around him need to help teach him and remind him of the importance of non-academic routines so he has time to hyper focus on his very important thoughts that we can't always see. : ) I am not saying my son will be Newton or Einstein(other INTPs), but he does have the same personality and passion and I am more than okay with that even if he has to set alarms and task alerts on his phone to remember things. It did take me time to accept it as a way to be "normal" and not push my ideas of normal or what's an easy/hard task onto him. We are all meant to be different and help each other out.

I work at a preschool and the amount of mismatched socks you end up with by the end of the year is insane. Also sometimes parents won't claim their kids clothes. We had a nice pair a nike tennis shoes sit in the lost and found bins for several years and plenty of times parents went through our lost and found and no one claimed the nikes belonged to their child. Which also means at some point a child went home without the right shoes and no one noticed. Another time a little boy came to school in these hideous oversized velour pants with a little dinosaur on them (they looked like they were made in the 80s). The child ended up switching clothes and we sent the ugly pants home just to have the parents send them back and say they didn't belong to their child and had never seen them before. I guess they were embarrassed by how ugly they were. We still have them in our classroom and love to put them on tiny humans for extra warmth when we go outside in the winter.

OMG! This is so funny because it’s so true. 40 years in education in the Midwest and I still don’t understand the winter coats in the lost and found. And then there was the year a kid left a carton of milk in his locker for about 6 weeks and then I think it may have exploded? Luckily not my classroom but the hallway reeked!😁 Love this and know that all my fellow educators are laughing and nodding because we’ve all seen it!!!

I guess leaving a partially consumed tiny carton of milk in my locker because I couldn’t handle drinking it during our mandatory milk break, and leaving it there till it got stinky, feeds into my inability to drink milk, 53 years later!!!😝I can still see myself standing in front of my locker trying to figure out how to get rid of it, but I don’t remember how I did! And of course, my mother blamed my bad teeth on my aversion to calcium in most forms. I, too, had to wear headgear, and a retainer! Why didn’t I think to just slip them into the lost and found?!?!?

My daughter also has ADHD and this was totally her in elementary school. I used to go through the lost and found whenever parents had to go to school for parent night, or art night, etc. I always found her missing glove, lunch box, scarf, snow pants, glasses. Once she lost her brand new softball jacket. I went to the lost and found and found a softball jacket (the same size). I brought it home…she wore it for weeks, but kept saying I’m not sure it’s mine b/c I think you wrote my name on the tag. One day she found her jacket in the corner of her technology classroom, so we washed the one she was wearing and dropped it back off at lost and found. Thank you for providing such relatable content and helping our family know it’s not just us!!!!

Holderness Family, this parody gave me a chuckle. I just did a "Favorite Things" parody video over this past weekend to turn down a teaching gig! My content was about teaching math and family being my fav things. It's a cool song in that you have to get the syllables to fit in that 11-11-10-10 sequence in the verses! Your version was awesome! I played it on my accordion while singing the parody to make it memorable. The principal said I let her down in a "gentle" way! Parodies are great, which is why I respect your awesome work!

Hahaha! Loved this!! This is SO my son. His AP English teacher used to joke that he never had to pack a lunch bc Jesse left his lunchbox in his class every. single. day. We went on a trip out west for 6 weeks in the summer of 2002; Jesse left articles of clothing all over the western part of the U.S.

This reminds me of one time in High School where all the laptops that teachers thought were stolen and were given multiple classes detention until somebody confessed to taking them were found in the school's lost and found. Come to think of it might have been actually stolen but the person returned it to the lost-and-found instead because they didn't want to confess

I was a highschool janitor. When I would clean the locker rooms each night I would throw the lost stuff in a closet. At the end of the year I would drag it out and it would be a pile 3 feet wide two feet deep and 10 feet long of backpacks, gym outfits, socks, gym shoes, brand new cleats, binders, pen bags, sweat shirts, water bottles, inhalers. I would have to bag it and take it to the budget center. Something like 5 our 6 large bags full
