Royal Space Force stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Japanese animation. Creating an epic sci-fi film with such meticulous attention to detail for two hours was undoubtedly a financial risk. I'm glad that they realized this approach was misguided after its release, otherwise, we would have missed out on such a brilliant masterpiece.

One thing I only just noticed . The upper stage has a Russian style mesh interstage, but also has ullage thrusters. The reason you use a mesh interstage is so you can light your upper stage while the booster is still propelling you forward, settling the propellant in the tanks and avoiding air bubbles in the propellant lines. It allows the exhaust somewhere to go. The Soyuz/R7 rocket (which the RSF rocket looks similar to) is the best known example. If you have ullage thrusters, you can shutdown the first stage and have them pull the upper stage clear of the booster, and settling the propellants, allowing a solid interstage. The Saturn rocket is the most easily visible example of it. Granted the mesh interstage amy have been to save mass, but they could have saved more by hot staging.

Been a while since I've seen this. I loved how they built a whole different world, the culture, transportation, and even their money was something totally new. I also liked how different their space program was compared to Earth. With the Americans and Russians pitted against each other trying to best the other, both countries put their best and brightest to the task. Here, the ones who worked to go into space were the dregs of the military and were ridiculed by everyone. It's great that they triumphed despite all odds against them, but sad that the only other ones who witnessed the launch were soldiers trying to kill each other.

@THEGREATMEMEWIZARD Жыл бұрын
@@badplus0176 Unless you put a inordinate and not cost effective amount of effort into the CG. But at that point it's gonna take just as long to make and be more expensive then the hand drawn stuff. Studio standard CG they be using tho? Ya, you be right. Cheap, kinda fast, at the cost of lack of detail and depth. But then the studio has a choice to make... shall they pump out mid-low grade CG anime by the dozens or do 1-3 High Quality anime that will become a classics for decades to come only half the time? From a pragmatic "get money" prospective the first option is king as even if you only make a 1/10th of what you would of gotten making a HQ anime you still are making more of them which nets you more cash. This is at the cost of making something no one will remember in 5 years while that one dude in a basement somewhere who hand drew a highly detailed anime movie of his own making in a universe of his own design for a school project will be remembered 50+ years later with copies still being sold and traded.

There are a couple of scenes earlier in the film that show what each side is doing: 1. the scientists just really want to successfully launch a manned rocket for once, to prove the viability of space flight; 2. Shirotsugh Lhadatt (astronaut) gets into the Space Force for some pretty banal reasons but ends up truly believing in the goal of manned space flight and its possible ability to unite humanity, and in fact exhorts everyone else to go ahead with the launch; 3. The Honneamise military gives two toots about space flight but really wants to bait their rival country, the Republic, into attacking so they can test their fighters against the Republic's rumored new jets; 4. The Republic wants to quash Honneamise's space ambitions and inflict some damage against them with their new planes, but their main goal in attacking was actually to _capture_ the rocket, intact if possible. They'd previously sent an assassin to take out Shirotsugh, and may also have engineered the death of a leading rocket scientist, both to delay or derail the Space Force's plans.

This is sexy, don't get me wrong, but this quality vs animator's workload is NOT something that should be brought back. For anyone who doesn't know, an animation will have a drawing for every second. so if any scene is animated at 10fps, at least back then before it became all digital, that means they hade to draw whatever isn't static 10 times for just (1) second, while making changes so that it looks smooth. Let's say it's 10fps for a 10 minute anime short/episode, that's around 5,000+ images, for maybe as 80 people in the studio where not everyone is on that duty. MAPPA cracked the code and made much more possible by making unrelated departments also help, which is very on-brand for how terrible animators have been treated for the past 30-40 years. This level of quality can come back when the animators themselves feel as though they're getting the respect it deserves.
