Hi Colm. Thank you so much for your video. I have been diagnosed 8 years ago and stretching has not been helping so far. The first time I did these exercises, I felt so much tension release that particular day and my energy level was very high. I do them everyday and gained so much in mobility and the stiffness is gone. I am also doing the "scalenes and first ribs" video which is also helping a lot. Yawning much of the time. I will keep you posted. Thanks again.

wow! not sure what TOS is but I might have it because this felt super relieving, thank you!
@LearnSomatics
@LearnSomatics 2 ай бұрын
Glad it was helpful! TOS is caused by tension in muscles of the neck and shoulder. It compresses the thoracic nerve leading to pain down the arm. Everything in your body works and feels better when your muscles are relaxed. As you’re discovering. Thanks for watching.

@@LearnSomatics 💯! I think stretching is such a misleading word, we need to consciously re-engage disconnected muscles, not stretch anything 🫶🏻🙌🏻
@LearnSomatics
@LearnSomatics 2 ай бұрын
@@ooguko Absolutely, if your muscles are subconsciously contracted, traditional stretching doesn't work. You gotta normalise muscle tension first, which Somatics does very effectively. At that point you can stretch if you wish or need to for a particular goal eg: gymnastics, or martial arts etc.

Thanks this felt good! I don't think it was the exact area I needed though. I have this nagging discomfort that seems to start around the area of my lowest left ribs on my back radiating both up into my shoulder blades and lower into my left lower back/waist. I used to think it was QL but not sure that's it. Any idea what area is strained and what moves might be best for this? Thanks in advance!!!

Such a relief in the neck. But I still have deltoid pain in the left arm and started little on the right arm too. Physiotherapist and chiropractor said that I have weak back and slight pinch in neck l1 and L2. Please suggest something so I can spend painfree life with my family again . Thank you

I also have upper trap and levator tightness along w/extreme scalene tightness(one sided). is this exercise good to release the upper trap, it’s inhibiting everything I try to do that is related to my neck/shoulders. Thank you

can you please explain WHY it might help? The intension of the first exercise: is it similar as 'progressive muscle relaxation' ?
@LearnSomatics
@LearnSomatics 8 ай бұрын
Hi Andreas, these movements help by deliberately contracting and then relaxing all the muscles around the thoracic outlet, where nerves and blood vessels pass from the neck to the arms. By releasing tension here you can decompress the area and resolve or reduce your thoracic outlet syndrome, it will also greatly improve comfort, and enhance the flexibility of your neck, shoulders, chest and arms. Yes there are some similarities with progressive relaxation but this method is more precise and targeted. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
