One tip that works for me (ENFP) when being overwhelmed with things to do/what to take on first: write everything down on a to do list so you can clear your mind ('forget it'). Afterwards you can focus on 1 item at a time.I personally also color code it. Yellow = to do, red = very orgent/overdue, green = done, pink = awaiting feedback from other people. -> every time one item is completed, i put it in green to get that dopamine stimulation, boosting you to complete another one :)

thank you omg. i’m an enfp with big goals and honestly the skills and creativity to achieve them. i just have trouble getting it done. my parents are always like you need to plan every second of your day because that’s a ‘habit of successful people’. i just can’t do it. i’ve tried countless times and it just doesn’t work, i still don’t get the job done and it just makes me unhappy that i don’t have any freedom in my OWN DAY. thank you for this again, i find i work so much better when i’m thinking and finding and talking to diverse people and being engaged and learning about new or random things that allows my brain to figure stuff out and thrive, changing up even the smallest things in my life. this really resonated with me, pleasee keep going :)

I really wish they would teach more about these kinds of approaches & methods to life/learning in school. I see so many xNFP friends of mine who struggled growing up and only flourished after graduation because before they were trying to be productive like an xNTJ/xSTJ type! Even as an INFP myself, the advice you read out loud at 6:40 about the way you can't write an essay the way others do is the most accurate thing I've heard! I always did well on my essays and LOVED cross-contextualizing/immersing in new ideas, but I took twice as long to write them because I had to deconstruct & rearrange the pieces from the original draft or outline the teachers made me follow. I wish I could have found your channel when I was still a student, Heidi. Thank you for teaching the NFP types to work with their natural tendencies & motivations!!

Wow! That was spooky - like all my productivity problems listed. Thanks for breaking this down and giving possible solutions. I always feel soooo bad about getting stuck in unproductiveness and being sidetracked by "brain-porn" like political articles, psychological books, scientific videos etc. instead of actually doing my work. And I never get anything done in the order I "planned" it. The best advice I found for myself was from this book "The one thing" - sitting down in the morning and thinking about what task being done would have the most impact and just planning that (and nothing else) for the day. The rest comes spontaneously.

One of the most helpful tips I ever read was to give yourself the opportunity to procrastinate within the project. So devide the project in different areas - for example if you are writing a thesis for university it might be helpful to have the practical part, the research part and the writing all going at the same time instead of doing it in a specific order. That way you may do something else than originally planned entirely, but still be satisfied with the outcome. I think it aligns nicely with lots of the tips in the video as well.

I just looked up Heidi Priebe as she is the author of The ENFP Survival Guide that I read. Well, you know, the ENFP way. I read the first 3 chapters of it or so, then jumped ahead, then back, then put it down and now just picked back up. After happily seeing that she’s got a YT channel, I went straight to this video. I really struggle with productivity. Due to the nature of my job, music artist and producer, I find it kinda hard to implement the first tip she gives in the video about reading up on a lot different things. Biodiversity, I think she says. I need to get those programmed drums right and it is a very detail-oriented task, let alone tracking any other instrument. Anyway, I'll keep watching now…

So helpful, thank you! I have an Si tip I've been learning recently; Si is literally about body awareness too. I spent a lot of my life ignoring physical sensations in my body, such as hunger, thirst, tiredness and pain. It eroded my health until I became very sick a few years ago. But paying attention to my body and the messages it sends me has allowed me to start an upward health spiral. The best part has been that since doing this, my intuition has become much more effective as well. I realised that Si and Ne are actually a great team. Ne becomes much more powerful when has somewhere to land in physical reality. Paying gentle attention to my bodily needs has been surprisingly effective in helping that Ne insight to land somewhere I can actually use.

I'm a 43yo ENFP with 2 young children, 5 & 10. I like to stay busy but need to learn to monitor my energies as I often feel burn out. My friend Leah tells me that whatever I get done in a day is enough. I can rest in that. That is hard but I'm trying to believe it so that I can feel good & not guilty over what I was able to do/not do. To keep up on my house I try to do 1 thing a day the same every week like dust every Monday, floors every Tuesday, bathrooms every Wednesday and so on. That helps with keeping up on the daily of laundry, dishes, homework. I think the hard part about this "life" is that we're not applying our fun, creative sides to motherhood. How can we do that in a way that turns these mundane demands into something we love?? Can we simply view it differently, possibly as building into something vital? I don't know.

Thanks as always, Heidi, for being the voice of compassion for our ENFP selves. I'm self-employed and collapsed mentally during the 2020 shutdown by mid-October, unable to work or think, and turned to MBTI to help me restructure my life in a sustainable way that didn't take a busy city for granted (since who knows when it will be available or taken away again due to the pandemic). Gradually I have gotten back on track by adding in loads of diverse input, as you advise, and it truly does work. I had assumed I needed people as the main interaction since we're extroverts, but I quickly found that who those people were needed to vary widely from day to day. I also realized that to stay on track my extroverted intuition absolutely demands diverse thinking -- films, museums, books, landscapes, activities, conversations-- it just has to get changed up for my brain to continue to crank. But I was still feeling a lot of shame around this need. After all, I'm inordinately proud of being my genuine self like any Fi, so why couldn't I make my brain work without needing the world so much? I was feeling like a drug addict, but with information and experience, UNhelpfully comparing myself to my INFJ and INTJ besties, who can and have gone months without needing this stuff like I do. I love this video! You'll laugh because I avoided it for weeks after you first posted it, precisely because I was too busy castigating myself for needing it. You're a true gem 💎 I can schmooze any therapist out there into thinking I'm fine, but you see us ENFPs wrestling the demons and always name them accurately. I so appreciate you and second the chorus: I am so very glad you exist! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Always so damn refreshing coming back to this! I feel like if some ENFPs are stuck, it does not take much for us to get out of that rut and get going. We just have to turn our heads and open up and look what amazing possible options there are out there for us. That puzzle forms itself after some natural flow and when we least expect it we truly have synched into that kind of natural flow that just works for you and you and me and you.

This is excellent advice for me as an ENFP, especially the farm crop analogy! One thing I’d add that I noticed for myself is if I am not doing anything creative I will feel very unmotivated. Even just a bit of creativity like a new project always ignites some energy for me. Just realized this again when I was assigned a group project at work that required some brainstorming and creative thinking, and once I got going with the project I suddenly felt excited again and not as depleted at the end of the workday. Discussed with my therapist and decided I NEED to have creative projects going or I burn out. The extra projects don’t cause more burnout, rather the opposite, get me excited and motivated.

That FI advice on doing something comfortable and conductive to being focused is good for me. I have issues around being scattered. Si as a path to mindfulness... love it! But my most resonant, favorite piece of advice is making small progress through taking small steps over time. I actually totally forgot you told us this in the camp too! One of my main issues in life has to do with acountability and trusting myself to do things i told myself i would do. That includes things like meditation in the past and getting exercise, for example. Aaaaand journaling about my emotions and other things. There is perfectionism in me that acts as blockage to my productivity. I have to admit, if i had healthier connection to Fi (i had stress over letting fantasies flow in my head) then i also would feel better. Edit : I love the advice on writing down ideas then working or organizing with those afterwards. If i only had been allowed to or thought of that in high school...

Alot of times I find myself beating or hammering myself for trying to use tools that is not serving me whatsoever or makes me dull and bored. That natural flow is so important! Thank you Heidi for putting so much passion, time and enthusiasm into all of this. Truly eye opening. - ENFP-A , 4w5, Libra

Well I must say I´m impressed! I´ve really been struggling with productvity for some time and this is just pure gold, diamonds, chocolate and you name it =) I love your "Survival guide" for ENFPs and I´m glad I found you channel. Best wishes from a fellow ENFP from Norway =)

oh you mentioned being an ENFP person with ADHD. I really like it since they are really close in nature in a way that both of those characteristics are all over the place. At first (in my 20s) i didnt understand it but a few years ago (at around age of 30) I started to understand and love myself this way and energized me so much! Love to hear things which reinforce this in me (of course :D ).

This was so helpful! You articulated what I had intuitively figured out, but still hadn’t made logical sense of it. Now I have a clear game plan of the hows and why’s, and it all makes sense.

This was so enlightening! Honestly! Thanks, Heidi 😭💕 Edit: I am guilty of often wishing I was more like an SJ or TJ (only when I am unproductive for "no reason" and feel ashamed, but this gave so much affirmation and clarity at the same time. Perfectly executed tips. I feel really understood. Just like when I read the survival guide.

Super useful video! Thank you so much for making it! I struggled with productivity during the pandemic so much, but now that things are opening up I've been slowly getting much better at working again. I realized that I really needed a change of environment and social interaction to feel motivated

I just wanna say, I do have ADHD and I'm the introverted type of personality similar to yours (like your friend, forgot the term), but I love watching your videos and I find them extremely helpful. I often have trouble starting tasks because I see so many different steps and I have so many unanswered questions about how to do something in the most efficient way, then I try to organise everything and lose my excitement before I even start the thing. Your advice is clearly coming from a lot of reading and experimenting and I feel understood. I love how you talk about all the little things most wouldn't even try to think about, things that I feel I struggle with when I shouldn't, I feel validated and your videos truly help a lot.

Halfway through the video, I felt the urge to note down these stuffs so I can read it when I get unproductive, but then I feel lazy & have to watch the video once again for that...so let's just skip that, but then my mind keeps on thinking about that only...!!😆 Every day ENFP struggles🙂

100% agree. I started learning web design and was interested in motion design so I went far out learning all the wild creative functions but my basic building skills were terrible. Now I'm only doing the basics and building templates on repeat knowing that I can do the things that really inspire me.

This is by far, the best video on productivity that I've watched on KZbin. I'm not exaggerating. It feels like you understand my brain as the back of your hand. I've watched countless productivity videos, tried and failed many methods, and finally found a pattern that works somewhat for me. Your video incorporates the lessons that I paid a dear price to learn and adds a few other ones that sound feasible for the ENFP brain. And you do this while explaining why they work in a way that really resonates with me. You're brilliant, thanks for what you do!

Holy.... Wauw - Heidi! You definitely hit it right on! Thank you so much for this invaluable video! As an ENFP, this was exactly what I needed to hear to create some sense in my head as to why I have the feeling of motivation some days and other days, it's non existent. Currently, I find myself struggling to keep working on the things I want to work on, even though I feel passionate about it. However, having listened to the different possibilities an ENFP has to utilize our different functions optimally, you have restored faith and positive energy in me! I really appreciate and admire the work you're doing - keep up the great content!

Hi Heidi, I just found your channel and wanted to thank you for the content you're sharing. I find it so useful! I'm three videos in and I've already learned so much about how to make my personality type work for me and not against me. There seems to be a generalisation that ENFPs are not good workers, that we're not disciplined, can't stay in one place, etc... It's so comforting knowing how to actually make the most out of our superpowers instead of feeling ashamed for not fitting into what society considers a "good worker" because we are greater than that!
