@@eleonik76 correct the only true race car here awd r32 belongs in its own racing circuit away from inferior FF and FR layouts. Awd is always superior fallowed by FR finally the toilets known as FF should not ever be considered race cars.

@@epoxeclipse What makes one car superior to other is not it's drivetrain layout,but it's heritage and engineering. Nobody associates VW with sport or high performance engines. No child grows with VW poster in his bedroom. When you say Honda,you think of high revving,reliable, supremely engineered engines. VTEC is legendary. What is VW known for? Bland,dull,crappy cars with broken and smoking engines,crappy gearboxes and electronics. Even if you got Golf RR32,end of day it's still Golf.

@@eleonik76 I know guys in the old school 80s rabbit game, extremely light quick cars. One guy I work with has a newer golf turbo and it's a sweet ride. Where I'm at quite a VW fallowing. I am drive train biased, I can't stand FF layout it's trash I don't care who makes it. I live in a snowy state. Awd is boss, rwd is boss both are fun and 4x4 trucks will allow you to play in the mud and snow. Someone from Florida wouldn't ever understand that you can't drive a truck in ND oil fields that's 2wd. In the mountains where I live you want awd in the winters its a game changer.

+Dann0343 true that.drag is 10 seconds or so of acceleration, track can be hours of acceleration. Stock rx-8 is faster than a s2000. I baught an rx-8 because i really liked the 2 extra seats, after a couple of test drives i assumed, that the rx-8 was actually the faster car. nice to see it proven by experts. also nice to see what volkswagens 4wd are actually worth, reudction of center of gravity, thats nice. a understeery alfa with the same engine beat it tough. a1.8 na honda too. you might forget about the 2.0 and 1.3 cars that where so much faster that the cameras had troubles catching them,... volkswagens are overpriced pieces of shit, that's an inconvenient truth, they're even worse than alfas.

***** also the r32 is heavy and I wouldn't say over priced. The r32 has a vr6. If you have actual experience with vr6 motors you'd know how beast that thing can be. But the awd system on the r32 ruins it. It's better to run it up against Subaru wrx sti and evos. Or just run it on a drag strip or freeway. You can't race a 3,000lb. Car against a bunch of 2,000lb. Cars and expect it to out corner them on a track with no long straight aways. Honestly this is for pure entertainment, if you want to learn about cars go out and race don't just sit and watch KZbin videos. Anyone with real car experience knows the fwd 1.8t or vr6 would've been the perfect match for these types of cars.

There is a large number of us that love this type of racing as well. The bug difference is drag racing and Nascar draw lots more sponsors and thus racers who can afford to do it for a living. Don't be fooled into thinking there aren't autocoss events and track days filled with people who love driving

It’s pretty obvious actually. USDM cars were fast in straights and couldn’t handle for shit until recently. People grew up on drag racing muscle cars here, while in Japan they had smaller displacement cars and focused on handling over power.

@@PixelYohan the type of roads available is what i've always felt has been the big difference. people always talk about how US cars cant turn and how well euro/jdm handle. problem is, that handling isnt worth shit in places like kansas lmao. sure, go ahead and gain a second on me at the 2 mile long sweeping curve at the end of the 20 mile straight stretch of road that we just raced down. inversely, the big US car would have alot of trouble on that super narrow euro road. cars are built for their environment

@@KXP70 DC2 has a more desirable suspension, but then you have the advantages of better chassis tech with the DC5. FD has further refinement. Cars naturally get better with all the tech advances, but 90s Honda suspension just does it for me. To be fair though, a McPherson doesn't automatically make it horrible. Leaving my RX-7 and gf's ND Miata to get back into my MR2 makes me wish I had a different suspension. Porsche and BMW have made the suspension work great, but I'm just a guy in my garage. I think all the cars are great for what they are, drive them and pick what you like best.

The rx8 is a really great and powerfull car, its underestimated by many because they compare it to the rx7 fd. but let me tell you something, i have both an rx8 and an s2000 , i only upgraded my rx8s exhaust and it is clearly faster than my stock s2000 and other ones i have raced. So its not slow at all!

Celtic Wind By drag racing the rx8, you're missing the entire point of the car. Rx8 can beat cars with way more hp; the power it lacks in the straights, it more than makes up for with capability in the corners. I absolutely love both cars btw

It's strange because in other Tsukuba races RX-8 was in the 1:09.x, 1:10.x and 1.11.x time. And it was passed in main straight by almost all cars S2000, 350Z, Skyline coupe, Integra Type R. So this makes me think either tyres were different, they managed to find the car limit, a matter of driver skills or staged depending on the race. I have 07 RX8 by the way and I love it

the r32 did well considering it’s PWR(power/weight) and inferior suspension, weight distribution there is also power to drag coefficient (CdA) and power to rolling resistance with are both much better for r32 plus Awd. Anyway great show!!! 👍

Love this vid! Rx8 hasnt the most horsepower nor tourque, but it is indeed the best car on the track! I drive 2 of them by my own. Dailydriver for 90miles a Day, 150tm so far with 1st motor! I love the german Wankel motor, and the Mazda design of Rx7 and Rx8. I hope, the 'Rx9' Vision will be released soon. I'll swear, i'll buy one!

Ok,I am not a race driver,neither I wear a helmet when pushing our Accord Type R on the twists,but few weeks back I was going to a near by village,40 km from Helsinki. I live in Finland. So I was tailgated by Golf R MK6. Never had a race before with one,and had no idea if I can keep up. I have CH1. No mods except K&N sport filter. I didn't just beat him,I literally humiliated him. The Golf was more powerful and was pushing closer behind me on the straights,but not enough to take me over. At 6200+ revs,on third gear,not many cars can keep up with CH1 on a twisty roads. It's so light,and the bursts of power you get from the VTEC and the LSD,just forget about any GTI or R. So my point was that I find it hard to believe how difficult the DC5 and the S2000 were to overtake them R and the Alfa..

3:32 rx-8 simply pulls away mid corner, that's the hidden benefit of rotarys. you need to watch again to grasp what is happening there, then again and again,... to believe it. if you're interested, you're in for an assload of fun.

Thats illogical because the S2000 has 50/50 weight distrubution a better chassis than the 8 and is also lighter. Put a hardtop on it and the same tires and watch it eat RX8s. Also the S2K had worse tires than the 8 in the race

Norris Sledge none of the upgrades to the rx8 gave it anymore hp. The Renesis rotary engine produces all the power it can without a turbo from the factory. Bolt on stuff like intakes and exhaust can actually hurt the performance if the rotary so any aftermarket parts make the engine produce less power. Most of the above listed "upgrades" are cosmetic, even the Mazdaspeed intake doesn't add any noticeable power. The designer at Mazda was a race car driver when the rx8 was developed and it really does show. I've seen new mustang 5.0's not be able to keep up with the rx8 on a twisty track, sure the Mustang is faster in a straight line but in the real world the rx8 is a far superior car even to all the other cars in this video, I know the vtec yo fan boys don't like it but it's the truth

until you put a pair of real 225 fronts and 255 rear tires that fit on stock ap2 wheels on the s2000 and then bam, thats the only upgrade it needed to beat them. thos are plainly the ap1 wheels which are skinny and only 16 inch. and the s2k has absolutely no aero, just throw the CR spoiler and front lip on it (still oem).

solo lo activó por la 4ta vuelta... se nota que el integra le hubiera podido dar mas batalla al rx8 y al S2000 pero el golf lo iba frenando. El peso del golf lo hace pésimo en la mitad de la curva y en la frenada, pero sobre todo ya cuando lleva desgaste encima, después de 4 vueltas, los frenos y las llantas deben estar sufriendo.

I think it's more the tyre width the rims allowed and extra sidewall stiffness. AP1 fronts are fairly narrow and tall walled.
