I haven't really heard much about topical geometry before this video, but it surely was an interesting look into the weird world of addition and multiplication that it has! 😭 Great Video!

Wouldn’t the additive inverse in tropical geometry be any number less than or equal to x (if we’re considering max)?
That’s not what these symbols mean in quantum mechanics, I’m afraid. The multiplication symbol surrounded by a circle means something called the “tensor product” of Hilbert spaces. The addition symbol surrounded by a circle also means something else that has to do with Hilbert spaces, not the same as the symbol shown in this video.
@Greencatbeer3 ай бұрын
@@blurb8397 thanks to your explanation! I forgot what they told that there are several fields who use the same symbol with different meanings.
@blurb83973 ай бұрын
@@Greencatbeer you’re welcome! If you want to study quantum mechanics, make sure you’ve studied the following topics first: 1. Linear algebra 2. Differential equations 3. Basic electrodynamics 3. Wave mechanics Recommend but not required: Statistical mechanics. Once you’ve got that background, any quantum mechanics textbook will be good, I personally enjoyed the books written by Claude Cohen-Tannoudji. Good luck!

It wouldn't make sense to use X as the additive identity because X is not a constant.
Wait, I thought they were gonna explain the definitions! I don't understand this! Then again, ⨂ being defined as + would just make it redundant... Wait, hold on! It actually is, isn't it? Why? This is so pointless! Also, I can't believe the Englishmen are forcing absolute foreigners to just randomly talk in Latinisheseanic \(-_-)/ What's the point of speaking one language if you're just gonna have to speak another? I wish they could just be consistent and say both the expressions and sentences in English, or Japanese...

English mathematical terms themselves come from Latin, Greek, German, Arabic, and Sanskrit.
@FireyDeath43 ай бұрын
@@juliavixen176 Well, at least we're not using completely different types of scripts, like the calibre of exotic Asian or African ones. Except for Hebrew, which is kinda weird. Honestly, it's a bit strange to me that they haven't introduced Cyrillic characters yet. And the Japanese people didn't even say these things in their own orthography, like they usually do with loanwords! They actually said things like "eks" and "plus" and "ti"

It’s defining the basics of tropical geometry, which replaces addition with the min function and multiplication with addition
@FireyDeath43 ай бұрын
@@wonderstruck. Well yeah... But like, if these signs have the same function as other ones, I don't see why they don't just use the signs that already exist for these things, rather than make up the new ones. I just don't see the point, and it kinda makes it seem more complicated than it actually is

@@FireyDeath4 they’re defining a whole new algebra. Any multiplication we normally do is REPLACED BY addition under these new rules. Tbh I don’t fully understand it but from looking it up you can get some pretty cool results with this kind of math
