【Synopsis】In the last years of the Tang Dynasty, a military governor and warlord named Zhu Wen is out in the countryside when he happens to come across a boy who has been raised by wolves. The warlord decides to take the boy in, adopt him, and name him Zhu You Wen. Zhu Wen then proceeds to launch an ultimately successful coup, usurping the Tang monarch and installing himself as the first Emperor of the Later Liang Dynasty (907-923). The new Emperor names Zhu You Wen as a royal prince.
At court, Zhu You Wen forms a bond with a woman named Ma Zhai Xing, the daughter of a government official.
Despite his lofty status at court, Zhu You Wen is motivated by a strong sense of justice that was instilled in him during his years of living in the wild. He and Ma Zhai Xing begin to form a romantic bond. And with her support, he plans to temper his adoptive father’s unpopular and overly strict reforms - and battles to foil a series of dastardly plans hatched by his scheming foster brothers.

In my humble opinion due to Ji Chong deceptions and treachery for conspiring with second prince to assassinate Lord Bo I could never accept his character and deceit as his initial intent was malicious against both Xing Er and Lord Bo. He truly got what he deserves - losing Xing Er and the one who caused her death as had he come full circle and informed Lord Bo of the second's prince true color the devastating events as they played out would have taken a different twist. As to Xing Er, Lord Bo's master piece of turning her love for him to hate in order to make her strong enough to avenge his role as leader of the Night Fury in the deaths of her family was the most gut wrenching to witness on screen as those of us who overstood what we were witnessing had to bear his pain and misery each time he caused the love of his live to hurt by protecting her by any means necessary. Not only did Xing Er's heart suffered throughout this roller coaster between them, so did the hearts of so many who clearly witnessed the hell Wolfie/Lord Bo had to endure. He truly ought to have earned an Academy Award for bringing so many along and creating the 'Wolfie Addicts so many have become myself included who keeps coming back just to see the magnificent display in the execution of his various role in all flavours and grandeur such as a movie classic buff as myself have never seen before and by one so so young. Through the pain, tears, heartaches and all I keep coming back to see Wolfie and I will continue to do so for the many gems that you dropped along the way. Thanks for a great masterpiece of acting....
