Few days ago, I finally replaced the old air filter with a new Fram air filter on my 05 Honda Accord EX 2.4. I was surprised to see a lot of black and gray stuff on the old filter. After changing it, I can immediately feel a significant improve of torque from 0 all the way to 65 mph, especially climbing the hills. So glad I changed it.

I like that..."missing that screw". I think when I finish mine might be missing too. Thanks for your post. I'm old enough to remember when an air filter could be changed by removing a single wingnut! I like technology, and don't want to go back, but come on Honda! You have some of the best auto engineers in the world! Make this simple...let us think we can still do SOME maintenance on our cars! :)

Mine is also missing exactly the same screw. I wonder if it isn't intentional, maybe it's a guiding pin?

Thanks this helped a lot. The hardest thing was getting the bottom end of that tube off, and that's with the bolt loosened. Thankfully I was able to change the filter when I finally got it off.

Nice vid. i think the cracks I recently noticed in my air intake tube are from be "brute forcing" the air filter cover off. Replacing the air intake tube and air filter today.

Had no choice but to detach that big tube as I could not get the top off/out otherwise (hopefully that cracked left hand side perimeter of the filter housing flange is not an issue, not sure if it was me or one of my predecessors), and I did try pretty hard so I got lucky I guess that I didn't break anything (else). Removed two of the attachments from the that big tube as well. (I even had the battery out before I ran across this video, though not sure that helped any, but it may have...). Great video, thanks for the help.

I just destroyed my intake hose tring to remove the air box cover. I removed 3 hoses before trying it. I would say it is worth the 20 secs. to remove the hose from the throttle body as well. Now I had to pay $48 for a new one. Lesson learned.

@@clintathusaz I meant to update. But the more i handle the old hose I think it may have broke anyway. it was very brittle and dry rotted at the throttle body end so it was probably good that I broke or else i wouldnt have known how bad a shape it was in. 15 years of hot and cold did it in

Hi can you tell me what the hose before the two hoses on the air filter tube is called and what its for? I'm trying to do a custom intake and can't figure out how I will connect that hose to the tube since it has a small metal tube sticking out to the hos. Thanks :)

The line of rubber top of left filter box has tow or three Blastic scerw, wn u remove it , will be more easy to open box with out open from throttle hose

Can someone tell what that part is at 1:11??? Because on my accord that piece is just hanging off because it's broken. I ever time I move with the car on, my car shuts off. And I'm hoping that's the reason for my terrible gas mileage, and bad idling.

Can you remove the screws all of the way? My screws are stripped from a mechanic using the drill driver. You can use an 8mm but I'd rather use a screwdriver in the future

I like Honda, but it sucks in intake parts... I have replaced before ( air intake hose ) + tried to fix the air filter (cover) but it broke again... there is a weak point that can break easily, then it allow unfiltered air to enter to engine. Also it's a pain to replace air filter I'm thinking to replace it with short intake system. like injen or k&n. or just use sport air filter fitted in the stock hose. ugh

Thanks for showing how to replace the air filter the correct way. I guess from years of having people do it incorrectly on my car (04 Honda Accord Coupe), my hose has cracked exactly where you said your's did. I'm going to buy the hose and install it myself, but i have a question. There is a tight metal ring tightening the hose to the air filter cover. How did you remove it, and do I need to buy another to tighten the hose back on, or can i use the same one?

I. Muhammad Hi Thanks for the comment! To answer your question, the ring you asked about is actually a tight spring. If I remember correctly, I didn't actually have to remove the spring. I think i was able to pry the whole thing off little by little using a screw driver under the rubber to help the spring over the lip on the cover. It takes some work but I don't think it was too terrible. And I also believe the replacement tube (~$30 from the dealer) has that spring already in place. Let me know how it goes!

@clientsgarage I have an 2005 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder, Everything seems much tighter and harder to replace the engine air filter. I unscrewed the 4 screws it was difficult I had to get long magnetic screw driver and the screw on the far right was at award angle. Secondly. It seems like I have unscrew the sensor clips and unscrew the intake and loosen clamps. Was there an change between 2005 and 2006 models? Also I have an LX 4 cylinder , do certain models are purposely more difficult? It was way harder than unscrewing for screws and replacing. Opinions and thoughts?

I have 2003 and the same model. I'm trying to take change the filter right now and I'm having no luck moving anything. I guess they're just too old now and it's pretty cold out. I'll reply again when I figure out a solution

Should be ok they make spacers for air filter boxes to make a redneck cold air intake so Should be just fine

1:00 this part would not work for me and I ended up tearing the tube trying to lift up the box and manuever it to try to get the tube out .. smh and I still haven't gotten the tube out of the throttle body so now I have a severed intake tube connected to the throttle body smh .. how do I get the tube off the throttle body if it's stuck ?

@@clintathusaz I just kept pulling and manipulating it and it eventually came off .. I did it in parts .. pull and pull my ass off then leave and take a break lol .. that's how much it was fighting me .. then on about the 5th try it just decided to come off .. that thing had never been taken off there in 160k miles since I got the car so makes sense it was that stuck I guess .. also, it probably had crack(s) where I couldn't see so probably best to replace it anyways .. thanks for replying

Frankly, if that tube broke, then it's already weak and would still have broken soon even without touching it. It simply was already due for replacement.
