Engine Breather Plate Oil Leak on a 9th generation Honda Civic (2012 - 2015)

I discovered this oil while looking underneath the car. I initially thought it was the solenoid gasket (very common) but then I recorded with my phone behind the engine and discovered the oil was coming from the bottom of this plate. It is called engine breather cover (11850-RNA-A00)

It is a very tight space and requires a lot of patience...
You will need a gasket sealer like Hondabond.

Virtually the same for the 8th gen as well with the R18 (2006-2011)

I didn’t know the 8th gen also had this problem. Today I went to check a 2015 to but it and this is the first thing I checked. It was pretty tight to do this repair.

Came across this from your comment on another video. Awesome! Unfortunately for me, I replacdd that intermediate shaft around a year ago and that plate was not leaking. There is a bit more room with the CV axle and intermediate shaft taken out, would have been nice if I could do it all at once. Great video nonetheless, I wonder if Toyota's have this same plate.

If you use your cell phone in video mode with the light on, you can slide it from the top where the solenoid valve is and record the back of the engine. You can literally see if this plate is leaking or not from the bottom. This is super easy to do and you don’t need to get under the car. Just pop the hood and record with your cell.

Looks a bit tight for a torque wrench. What did you use?

Yes, you are right. Tight space is an understatement. It was very challenging to work in there, let alone recording. I have three torque wrenches but it was impossible to use them in that space. You have to go by hand and what you are used to. I approximately know the torque I apply depending the wrench I am using. I would apply no more than 8 ft lbs so you don’t squeeze out the Hondabond. It beats me why not. The same with the timing chain plate. When this happened me I couldn’t find any videos explaining it. That is why I did my best to record it. Where is this plate? Behind engine? Is this a 1.8L ?

Yes, it is a 1.8L. It is tricky to see it. The video shows how to reach it from the passenger wheel. But if you are curious, just pop the hood and record with your cell (light should be on) from the passenger side behind the engine. Put your cell from where the solenoid valve and PCV are. Please let me know if you have more questions. I do have videos that show how to check it with your cell. I think I will make a short video about it and let you know.

Yup R18 (1.8) From underneath the car it’s up above the starter a little to the right on the passenger side Underneath the intake
