VTEC Solenoid Oil Leak on a 9th generation Honda Civic (2012 - 2015)

I noticed this very common leak on my civic. I purchased the Honda genuine part online: 15826-RNA-A01. It is an easy job with good access to the area.

Dont know how you did this one handed but you did 😂 . Great upload for helping us civic owners out. Just finished replacing mine, hopefully this is where the leak is and not where the honda bond sealant is applied. I found a little bit of oil again in the same spot after replacing the gasket but so far so good, maybe it was just residual from removing the solenoid. I didnt take off the PCV hose although it would have made the job easier. I removed the little bracket and forced my way in there with a long 10mm. These bolts seem to round easily, I may be an aftermarket part if this fails again just for spare bolts. I saw a few videos of people torquing these bolts to 7 ft-lbs or 96 inch-lbs but I used a smaller ratchet like you did and got them snug. I've beeb burned before trying to torque such a small bolt. Theres one video out there of someone torquing these PCV valve to 40 ft lbs....do not do that, that is completely overkill/wrong just snug it up. Just a heads up!

Thank you for your comments. You are right on the money on everything you said. If you torque the PCV valve to even 33 you will break it. Make it snug with a short ratchet and you should be fine around 10. On the solenoid, using a shorter ratchet you should be around the 7 needed. I couldn’t put my torque tool there… Don’t go crazy or you will crush the gasket and have a leak again. I used the genuine Honda from Honda.oempartsonline.com

​​​​@@gotitdone I hope I didn't overtighten 😂 , for anyone else, I had some oil in the hole the bottom bolt goes, when I tightened it up snug I probably pushed out some oil. Can't go wrong ordering two gaskets ($5) and some extra bolts (just incase). Best of luck!
