Have an oil leak and you don’t know where it’s coming from? Check the front inspection plate on the timing cover! Typically people think it’s coming from the crank seal, more often than not, it’s actually the front inspection plate that’s leaking. It’s pretty easy and straight forward, took me about 45 minutes to do. Hope this helps! #K24Z7 #Honda #CivicSi #JDM #FG4

I took my honda civic Si to get inspected and they told me it was a crank shaft seal leak and was going to run me 900 dollars and after this video and some other I just might be able to do this myself and save all that money thanks!!

I honestly thought the same thing too and had the crank seal replaced but it ended up being the plate after using UV dye, a black light and yellow glasses. Very common on these engines. I’m glad it helped!!

Thanks! I have the same car and it's leaking oil. Thought it was the VTEC solenoid gasket I'll do this as well. Theres leaking oil around the bottom of the oil pan. It's very slow.

Great video! This might sound dumb but did you have to empty the oil out of the engine before replacing? thank you!
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 2 жыл бұрын
@Ernesto Perez Nope, not dumb at all. Since the oil sits in the pan below, I didn’t really have to worry about oil leaking out of the inspection plate. Oil only passes through that area when the car is running. So no, no need to drain the oil at all!! And thank you as well!! I appreciate the support!! 🙏

Thanks bro been trying find out what that was. I have one question tho could the crankcase be leaking due to the pcv valve mesh counterpart or the hose or is it just bad gasket ? When should you change pcv valve ?
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 2 жыл бұрын
Typically it’s just a bad gasket. It’s real common in the K24Z7 engines. Good question, I’m not 100% sure when the PCV should be replaced.
@ralphmathews5579
@ralphmathews5579 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheNemesisCoupe I’m do you a solid since you helped me. If the engine leaks oil it could have something to do with pcv valve. Service interval for pcv valve is 20k to 50k. Recommend to change pcv valve and the mesh filter below it and the gasket for the crankcase like you were saying if it is leaking.
@VtecGuy88
@VtecGuy88 9 ай бұрын
@ralphmathews5579 I'm guessing this is what's wrong with mine I just replaced my pcv valve for the first time at 200k and I also replaced the oil pressure switch because I thought that was what was leaking. Leak never stopped so then I thought oil pan gasket so I put rtv on oil pan behind filter and its still leaking so I bet this is the solution but I had no idea about pcv until I started researching oil leaks. Thanks for the info from both of you.

So best do during a oil change , how long you think I should let the gasket sit till I can drive again ? Also did you have to scrap some off the block as well
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 2 жыл бұрын
@FB6_Adrian420 I let it sit for about 30 minutes before I put oil back in the car. And I barely had to, it all came off with the plate itself.

dealer told me it was leaking from the oil pan gasket..?? is that an obvious leak to identify.??
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 3 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Ochoa Yes, all you’d need to do is put the car on a lift or jack it up on jack stands and look underneath at the engine. You’ll see the drain plug right below the oil filter. The oil pan is right there where the drain plug is screwed into and is easily able to be observed for any leaks.

awesome video, man. i think my oil is leaking from there too. definitely from the side where all the pulleys and belt is at. but, i dont see much of the oil leaking from there, the oil is everywhere and it will dry up after driving it. i have cleaned and rechecked so many times but I cant nail where is coming from. does anyone else know where else can the oil leak from that specific side? I already have changed the valve cover gasket too btw
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 2 жыл бұрын
Try using oil dye, a UV light and yellow tinted glasses or goggles. Clean all the oil up first, pour the dye into the oil fill hole, drive the car for about 24 hours and use the UV light and goggles/glasses to see where the dye is seeping out of. That’s how I found where my leak was coming from.

No gasket for the timing chain.inspection plate? Didn't see that? Did you use honda bond?
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 3 жыл бұрын
@John Botero Nope, no gasket for the plate. You have to make your own. I used Nissan’s version of Honda Bond (I don’t remember what it’s called for the life of me) but it’s essentially just gasket maker and it’s held up since I posted this video. No leaks and no problems since.

Hey Bud, I have 2010 TSX I also suspect oil leakage from Inspection plate. I want to confirm, was the oil all over the passenger side due to serpentine belt carrying over oil? Or the oil leak was just under the inspection plate. I have oil all over the passenger side even up top but no leakage from Valve cover, Vtec looks dry as well and VTC actuator O ring is already replaced. Please suggest.
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 3 жыл бұрын
I would definitely suggest doing the front inspection plate gasket. I thought it was the valve cover at first but upon closer inspection I noticed it was on the crank pulley as well (because it sits right on top of the inspection plate) so I had the crank seal replaced. Didn’t fix it. I then cleaned all the oil off with brake clean, put dye in the oil, drove it for a week and put the car back up and saw the trail of dye in the oil coming from the front inspection plate with a black light and yellow glasses.

did you have to change other parts or just the plate that was leaking because my is leaking. My car is a 2012 civic lx sedan.
@TheNemesisCoupe
@TheNemesisCoupe 3 жыл бұрын
@Jesus Zuniga All I replaced was the liquid gasket that sat between the plate and the timing cover. You have the R18 engine in the Civic LX if I’m not mistaken, I’m not 100% sure of the specifics with that engine but I’d assume it’s the same concept. Just pull the plate off, scrape the old gasket and install a new one.

@robertoherrera8939 it’s fast drying so I wouldn’t wait at all. And as far as torque goes, I just made them nice and snug. I’m sure there are torque specs for them but I just made sure they were tight enough without using the power of the Hulk to snap the bolts.
