I hate brave and dpe, I thought the same about dragoon. I feel like centralization and streamlining really over generalized the game, meaning while yes I'm playing against prank brave I'm always using my lancea during standby or ashing the same few things no matter the deck. This means the interactions I do have with the opponent are worse, as I dont have to think and just kinda work off autopilot never really sweating looking for lines of play as I've seen this same situation a thousand times before. I don't mind individually good splashcards like accesscode, as different decks have different routes there, but I mind if the route is the same every time

I get this for sure, it certainly does make the gameplay get a lot more linear, which I think is also a shame

One of the problems of the engine here is when already good decks abuse it This is kind of a similar situation as with say maxx c, if only "bad" decks were allowed to run adventurer, it'd be completely fine, it's cool and interesting to see decks which don't normally top perform well, such as plunder, machina, mekk knight, d/d/d etc. But when we have decks which were already topping like vw, dragon link, drytron or striker incorporate something like adventurer or scythe, that's when things become stale and boring Striker is an interesting case though, as they don't use the engine for the negate but to fuel the grave with spells on turn 1 and make verte more easily, and seeing the striker pilot in top 4 of the remote duel ycs against pak live was very interesting, seeing engage for the search and draw on turn 1 thanks to the adventurer engine was something I was not expecting, but that's just one of the examples of an already meta deck abusing adventurer, and it's one of the least degenerate at that Also not mentioned here, but on a side note scythe is probably one of the biggest reasons why the format is kind of stale, it feels like almost every deck is just trying to get 4 monsters on the field for a dagda verte line, and having something like adventurer help this normally fragile line resolve is just extremely boring to watch or play against

'pile of engines' decks can be really cool. But the how key factor is choice. 60 card eldlich pile was viable for a long time, but nobody forced to play it, it was just one deck from a diverse meta. Hell, HAT has a whole format named after it, but there are huge numbers of decks in that format which don't touch any of those engines. Having the option to splash generic good stuff in your deck is cool. Homogenising the win condition of every deck in the format is dull.
@Nicxem2 жыл бұрын
I always preferred the generic engines that are just strong enough to feel really useful but not so incredibly powerful that it feels like a huge disadvantage if you don't play it. ex: three terrortop for rank 3 decks, brilliant fusion when it was at 1(before it got too out of hand), warrior decks with Malicious. Even now we have some people playing 3 e tele with the punk card as a mini engine.
@Alexejletsplay2 жыл бұрын
i think those engines would be fine if there was some way to make them only accessible to decks that need the push like plunder etc. But the fact that some decks that would be completly viable as is without those engines can still use them to increase the power ceiling is just stupid i think
@sleepyygo2 жыл бұрын
I can get this for sure, the unfortunate part is this exactly, that perfectly capable decks will always abuse the strong engines more than the rogue that gets more viable because of it
@mjp38982 жыл бұрын
I suppose I don't necessarily hate the engines such as DPE and Brave, but it can be a bit jarring running into them online or in tournaments. That being said after a while you can see what their weakness is (DPE; graveyard hate/fusion hate. Brave Engine, Ghost Ogre and Spell and Trap removal) so it's actually good for newer and returning players to beat the Meta, at least in my opinion.

The only issue I have with the format (at least right now) is Scythe. Yes Brave and DPE are good, but they would not be as oppressive with Scythe gone. But there is also a question of well are decks able to compete that can't use the Brave engine. How well is deck like Invoked or Floowandereeze able to perform in a meta game like this? Is your deck viable or good enough to win tournaments without these engines? We are heading in a direction where we splash these engines to make up for the short comings of our decks or just to have a follow up if we get interrupted and need a back up plan. The Brave engine does make your plays more linear, but also more effective because of the advantage and protection it provides.
@hoshi3142 жыл бұрын
invoked is actually hanging around, yeah not as good as before but still hangs around and Floowandereeze? Ra Sphere Mode siding and the fact that you can say "OUR TURN" if you managed to go 1st but Floo have a more fundamental issues like brick chance is significantly higher LOL

Welcome back Sleepy, glad to see u in my subscription box again. I can't comment on how enjoyable this current Brave/DPE since I'm pretty much paywalled out of those engine and only played master duel. As a returning player from a pre synchro Era the necessity of these engines and handtraps definitely bogged down deckbuilding. However I've still been enjoying it as I learn all the new decks that have come since.
@sleepyygo2 жыл бұрын
That might be my biggest issue with the complete takeover of anything in ygo really, it starts to significantly paywall people out, that much I can say needs to be dealt with
@MrOMGanASIAN2 жыл бұрын
Personally don't like engines that are "too generic" AND are extremely powerful. Point and case, the DPE package and the Adventure package. They make every deck "feel" the same where they take up more than a quarter of most "meta" decks. And forces you to burn interaction or build specifically to deal with them instead of the deck you're vs'ing itself. Something like the knightmare package (which you've done a vid on) doesn't feel that bad as a generic engine as they don't do anything oppressive (outside of mermaid and goblin facilitating broken combos) and more cater towards breaking or reacting to a set up your opponent as made. As such they aren't necessarily going to be useful or strong in every single match up (except unicorn but that requires a decently big investment). Compare that to the DPE and Adventure engines. Any deck that can and use those engines, WILL use those engines. There's never really a situation where going into either or both engines is the bad play. So every combo "looks" the same and/or every end board "looks" the same.
@jamesbrincefield98792 жыл бұрын
I think formats like this kind of validate the casual players who (usually poorly) argue that meta decks take no skill or thought to build or pilot and all competitive players just put the same 30+ cards into a deck and then enough of whatever archetype they chose to bring it up to 40 cards. While that’s not necessarily true, because of the power level of the brave engine you basically either have to use it or play an unoptimized/non-viable deck. The argument against things like Pot of Greed, Delinquent Duo, Painful Choice, etc. coming back is that if it were legal it would be an auto-include in every single deck. When there’s literally no reason not to play a card, something needs to be done to limit it’s usefulness.
@thekittenfreakify Жыл бұрын
Engines getting made compact is what is giving the power and what they end up giving you. Over time the bottlenecking effect will widen if equal engines get made not dngines to power creep but to compete with a diffrent game plan. Right now we have 2 control e gines dpe/dragoon. We are missing burn/stall/mill/boss monster or towers/ That in my opinion is why we have these metas with homogenized metas. We need 3 or 5 engines competing at the same time.
@hoshi3142 жыл бұрын
haven't seen brave in my local area since the damn thing is so expensive but DPE is a little bit of a problem where the solution lies elsewhere in the form of banning the green snake that enabled them so consistently in the first place Scythe? fuck that shit i'm a Floo player and to me Dagda is the bane of everything since that thing is a generic card that searches for those artifacts. But navigating the lines of play is more easier, as in you know which will go out first and you can plan accordingly (if the handtrap is there) heck playing tri brigade for long i can already imagine what lines of play based on what Fraktall throws to GY
@andrewcovell96922 жыл бұрын
I don't have a problem with brave since it takes up so much deck space however I do have a problem with dpe splashing since the card was supposed to be support for an archetype that really needed it at the time of the cards release I think it only gets worse when you look at splashes like this that take up no room in the main deck however a great example by halq I run p.u.n.k so I know that deck is strong on synchro and xyz plays and the real fun comes from how you can edit the Main and extra decks however the common thing for meta sheep to do with this deck is turbo out rising carp and instead of using it for synchro plays where it grants a synchro multiple attacks they use its 2nd effect to put tuners on the board to go into halq which springs off all the tired out halq plays we've seen in every deck that can manage to summon it the only difference being this deck can do it turn 1 since it's Main strat is using rising carps 1st effect to give amazing dragon the ability to otk a far more fun strat in my opinion and the upcoming support allowing for more in archetype fun to be had the old halq combo that the meta sheep run shows that they don't really care about learning the deck but learning how they can use it to do the things they do in every other deck meanwhile I've theory crafted the heck out of this deck from ways I can cheat into my Voss monster faster without the use of rising carp ways I can turn the spells into full on floodgates and/or removal ways I can use the stat line to my advantage ways to get Into other odd synchros and ways of making a better end board out of total garbage by simply using the xyz monsters I have in my extra deck I even have techs that use cards like sea monster of theseus but that's all stuff missed out on when you're focused on using the deck to do the same old things you've been doing it's got so much untapped potential the fact that the deck is considered "meta" when the meta sheep can't even play it properly is a miracle
@virgiltank36402 жыл бұрын
Brave allows you to go for synchros and has resulted in some really cool interactions like the rose package . BP is a hero , destiny heroes being meta feels so nostalgic like GX , what I hate though is the scythe lock , Scythe should be banned , I mean first Charles and now BP ? Scythe is a threat
@M.W.22 жыл бұрын
On one hand I love disgusting 60 cards pile deck that runs multiple strategies togheter and can use a variety of them depending on their opening hand and skillset. On the other I hate when this combo are so monotonous and splashable that you will see the in every single game and board like halq into auradon, yazi and maremare and the brave engine or the dpe package that you will find on 8/10 board in a local and just cause the other 2 one play something ridicolous and the other bricked or got handtrapped too much. Seriously when every deck start to run a certain engine it should be banned to keep things fresh I would rather invest in multiple lower prince engines for every two or so archetypes rather than spending hundreds of dollar for 5 cards eveyone is using in any deck

Yeah i agree, it's totally distasteful to use said engine in every deck, especially when there are decks that are underused and would love to have more staple or powerful engine options available. But to come up with a powerful and such sought after engine in a collector's set doesn't seem right to me. Everyone would be after these cards and the engine requires 3 of some of them. Which is ridiculous money spent on just one engine. The overall state of the game is suffering because of how accessible the game is when there are free simulators and the new master duel game

I just found your channel and after reliving the joys of maximum crisis when I first started playing and learning about the 2019 meta that I didnt take part in, I'm so glad you made a video about this. This specific problem that has made me avoid master duel and competitive play because of the mess it's become. I remember having such a good time with basic dinosaurs and that lovely story of the guy who topped an event with 3 copies of the dino structure deck and a mcdonalds food tray as his playmat. Then I come back into the game to people running 50 card decks with 20 garnets just because it hurts too much to not play every single broken card. Its upsetting to me and my efforts to get my boyfriend to play with me and actually enjoy what hes doing. I typically build decks minus the "required" engines just so we can keep things pure and enjoyable. Thanks for the content though and keep it up! It's different from anything else I've seen and fills the holes from when I wasnt able to play

for me there are two things that come to mind when seeing these super generic engines. I dont like it when people splash them on everything under the sun and have whole formats centered around them.This becomes even worse when they almost become a must if you want to compete, as they are very pricy engines and not everyone is willing to get evicted just to win a tournament, so you either have the money to buy them, or you have to find ways to counter these strategies. However, i do love it when these engines come out and breath playability to low power decks that could not compete otherwise. The example that comes to mind personally, is MBT's ghostrick list, where he used the brave engine in a masterful way that made ghostricks really have a fighting chance. At the end of the day though, i believe if you want to make a generic, good engine, you need to also give it a handicap. For instance, i would rather if in the dpe engine, fusion destiny just locked you in heroes completely, so that you cannot just use fusion destiny at the end of every combo. Or if the braves prevented you from overextending with them

Hi there Sleepy YGO, I know I am late with my comment and this might be an odd question, but what do you think would be the best YGO deck, if all Dragon Rulers would come back to 3 copies? And is this even a possibility to happen in the future? To your question from the video: I dislike that Konami seemingly designes op engines and indirectly forces the players to use them in all decks. I like it more if it is like you have Deck A and Deck B and a portion of deck B supplements Deck A very good, so you play an engine of deck B in deck A. I like your vids, especially the one about the Eternal Format! Greetings, Kcoby3198
@sleepyygo2 жыл бұрын
Firstly tysm for the support, I really do appreciate it! To answer your question in my opinion, Ive thought about the dragon rulers being legal again, and honestly I think it would be okay, but it would definitely make dragon link better in some shape or form. I think the cards have un ironically been power crept pretty sizably, though in a similar case to drident and other zoo cards, I think konami is scared of the potential they would have when legal, so they probably wont be back for a while.
@andrejv.28342 жыл бұрын
If every ruler was at 3 with no other hits the deck would probably still be meta even as a "pure" strategy, just not pseudo tier 0 like in 2013, having access to newer dragon support and links would help the deck have turn 1 plays that aren't double dracosack pass, and having synchros like baronne, chaos ruler and savage means the level 1 searchable tuners or hand traps can actually be used to summon big bosses or extenders Also the most they could probably come to anytime soon is 1, except for maybe tidal as that one can be used as another copy of foolish burial in certain decks

I really don’t like that so many decks are using brave and DPE. As much as I hate this it did give birth to one of my favorite decks being B.A.S.E.D. Scythe for sure needs to go and there needs to be some hit to DPE that’s not “limit fusion destiny” . We need to ban Verte or fusion destiny, in terms of brave I doubt Konami will hit it so soon but I’m hoping for a rite limit at the very least
@darkglass30112 жыл бұрын
What does B.A.S.E.D. stand for? I've never heard of this deck.
Another point to raise is certain hand traps like Ash Blossom. The scope of its effect is so huge, that it's as good as an omni-negate as a hand trap. You see this card played in EVERYTHING. Knocking it down to 2 or 1 would get people to experiment more with other cards like her other hand trap Tuner sisters.

I'm all for generic and splashable engines, but in case of brave and dpe (and like it was with zoo), either you play them or you lose, the only decks in the format not running these engines are flunder and ddd but just because they're unable to do so, this is extremely toxic
@barbedwire99752 жыл бұрын
I honestly hate dpe and brave. Brave slightly less so cause it’s new but for me it’s personally just really tiring. Whilst technically there are a lot of different decks knowing that in half my games or more, even at small local tournaments, I’m probably going to see my opponent windmill slam a fateful adventure or fusion destiny is just getting really old. Whilst there’s a lot of decks, they feel heavily concentrated around scythe, baronne, and of course dpe and brave. The other thing is that playing a deck that doesn’t use these engines but is still good isn’t exactly easy, even ddd and flunder are expensive where it’s a fairly major investment and purchase into cardboard specifically because you don’t want to fork out even more money then that for some stupidly strong and generic engine. Ban scythe, ban dpe, make it so that brave is slightly less consistent to see and slightly more of a gamble with the bricks (limit rite or water enchantress probably)

the moment a theme or "engine" gets splashed into more than 25% of the top decks which else are actually playing different decks it proves to be too good imo
@Ironpecker2 жыл бұрын
It's nice to have you back! Personally I dont mind the brave engine too much on its own, I think it's super cool how these pile decks have come around and how the brave enabled some older strategies. The two downsides for me tho are dracoback (yeah weirdz not the omni negate or the searchable searcher), simply because it provides wayy too much flexibility to the package, it's a bounce and you can use it as an extra discard, it's just the cherry on top that makes it excessively strong. Secondly THE PRICE, holy hell how can based (or gadget eldlich) cost over 1k euros. Between the dpe package, and the brave you can spend easily 450-500 euros wich is insane. I like the kind of experimentation that could be available, but the fact that a lot of people cant afford it takes a lot of the coolness away from it. This format I'm playing d/d/d which I managed to snatch before the prices hiked for around 80 euros without baronne, which is great for me as a "budget" player, but even ddd are starting to cost a lot. And staples like ash blossom, lightning storm and evenly havent had a decent reprint in a long while and still cost wayyyyy too much. I think the tcg is in a potentially good spot, it needs more reprints, to ban scythe and maybe touch adventurer a little (banning drackoback ans putting rite to 2 would be enough imo) and then the game is looking great
@orion-93682 жыл бұрын
I think that dpe and stuff like brave hurts the overall meta especially in current times where we are getting to see a lot more variety in deck builds. I feel a large number of possible interesting strategies are not being explored due to the overcenteralization of some staple engines and cards like brave.
@Hella_Animations2 жыл бұрын
I've always not liked the overusage of engines that lead to boss monsters outside of their archetype unless the deck using it is using it to cover a weakness instead of getting an edge in the competition since it creates an influx of people copying the same thing
@calebrowe85722 жыл бұрын
Loved the vid. Can't wait for another upload. Keep up the good work, and keep putting out bangers! I think there is a critical mass of engines that are okay in a format, especially ones that completely prevent interaction and devalue the parts of Yu-Gi-Oh that are actually part of the game. I find brave and DPE to be annoying because they inherently promote unhealthy play, and push the already good decks over the edge into unfun autopilot decks.

I don't like it. It feels very hopeless now trying to fight certain decks with the brave engine added in. DPE and Dragoon were already absolute pain in the asses and Brave just puts it over the top. Going to locals now is "oh I didn't draw at minimum 2 handtraps to stop my opponent from getting to wandering gryphon rider so they get to do the rest of their combo. oh they have both the rider, plus their standard board or a DPE, welp I guess I'm fucked." Breaking boards has become so much more difficult with brave being introduced now and it's not just for one deck. Every meta deck is running some combination of DPE and Brave now and if you aren't willing to shell out 500+ for those like 15 cards you are pretty fucked. The consistency of it was insane. Generic engines this consistent and powerful just feel bad to play against if you can't afford it yourself and feels to homogenize deck building. - OCG did something really good banning Verte, putting Fusion destiny to 1 and basically crippling the brave engine to 1 copy to hit the consistency of those strats. The only downside is if Konami ever decides to make more Brave cards enough for a deck, how would you play just pure Brave archetype because they had to dumpster 2 of its main cards to 1 copy.
@esphir54712 жыл бұрын
So happy to see you upload again :D Also, don't worry dude, take your time. Burnout and stuff like that can be a real pain in the butt or sometimes even an complete killer for something that you've actaully liked. I'm sure everyone here will understand it! About the DPE/Brave engines, I have to say that I'm also not the biggest fan of them. Brave engine feels like Aleister in crack, lol. Giving, more or less, every deck not only access to a bounce but also an omni negate is just ridiculous. All of that without even consuming your normal summon nor giving you an restriction on your plays afterwards. To be honest, that's actaully the thing I dislike the most them/such engines. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not against engines in Yugioh, not at all. I love playing engines in decks to improve it's capabilities/ceiling but I think there should be an "enough" and giving basically every deck 2 of the best effects in yugioh, disregarding of where it's played in, is definitely enough. And about DPE, well, the thing that bugs me the most when it comes to DPE is actually everything around him. DPE itself is alright but the fact that you can summon him so easily at the end of your plays, if it's with Fusion destiny or with Anaconda or that you can simply Scythe lock your oppont out of the game makes it kinda unfair in my oppinion. But wait, that's not all! As if that fact doesn't make this card/engine already extremely good enough, don't let us forget it's "Garnets", Celestial and Dasher. Cards which let's you either draw 2 or gives you an free extender on your next turn. It's just a more and more and more, where if your deck can play it, you HAVE TO play it. Even tho I'm usually not the biggest fan of the ocg, they've handled it perfectly. Anaconda to 0 and Fusion Destiny to 1. That way (D-)Heroes can still use it but it isn't seen/needed to be used in every single deck anymore. In the end I can just say, during all the years where I've been playing Yugioh now, I think I never have had an lower amount of interest in the game than now. Playing Yugioh irl seems almost impossible as long as you aren't willing to spend hundrets of Dollars, simply because of these two engines (+ stuff like droplet) and if you aren't playing them, you're at such an huge disadvantage where your oppont might just simply steamroll you.
