ENGINE FAULT - Ignition failure - BMW E91 engine N43

00:00 Intro
- The engine fault light will come on and it would look
like the engine is only running on three cylinders!
- 30A1: DME, ignition coil, cylinder 2, activation
- There is something wrong with the ignition!
- Let's take a closer look at the ignition coil of the 2nd cylinder

- P_ZSZ2 line from DME to ignition coil
- M_ZS line from ground to ignition coil
- U_HR line from voltage suplier to ignition coil

- Let's take a closer look at the ignition coil
from the 2nd cylinder
- The metal cover of the ignition coil has rusted!
- Testing to solve the problem with another used ignition coil
- Delete fault codes
- I'm testing whether replacing the ignition coil helped
- It did not help! The engine still runs on 3 cylinders!
- Same fault: 30A1
- The lambda value indicates that BANK 2 (cylinders 2 and 3)
are running too lean!
- Fuel injectors OPENING TIME is zero in cylinder 2!
- Either the fuel injector is faulty or the DME does not activate it!
- Before I go into more detail on the fuel injector;
i will test with another used ignition coil, as well as a spark plug
- The spark plug appears to be in good condition externally
- The problem has been solved!
- The final solution was a faulty ignition coil
- The spark plug was OK
- Both of these ignition coils are defective!
- Fault code 30A1 is lost!
The torment of eternity 30EA is and will remain!
- Lambda values are okay!
- The opening times of the fuel injectors are normal
- The engine control module (DME) shut off the fuel injector from cylinder 2, because the ignition coil did not operate
- This problem went away, but that 30EA haunts me ...
- Contamination of the NOx Catalytic Converter has jumped out of range again: 3264mg!
- I am not going to worry about that now. The main thing is that the car is fit to drive again!

Lovely videos and presenting! I have a serious question that haunts me and I haven't managed to diagnose it yet: I have changed the timing set, including all platic guides(oi timing kit too) tensioners, chain, torqued them by your instructions because I was experiencing a metallic rattle above only 2k rpm. Checked for rod bearings, turned out they were fine. So, mr. Jani, with timing excluded out of the ecuation, what other failing part could it be? Please sir

Great videos! One question, can you please explain which ignition / injector corresponds to what label.. since it shows for the 6 cylinder engine but what number is equal to 1-2-3-4 of the 4 cylinder engine for INPA?

Howdy! I have a problem with a BMW N43, the idling is at 650-700 rp when it heats up and oscillates a little, and it feels a little shaky. What would be the problem?

Hi! There are so many things that can affect it. It is a good idea to read the current fault codes first, as well as the fault code history. Worth watching my previous videos related to the N43 engine. We hope you find a solution to this problem! 👍

i would sugest you use BOSCH ignition coils

why? delphi is better (the downside is that it is more expensive than bosch)

Engine itself is powerfull enough and doesnt consume much fuel,but Otter stuff like Injectors/02sensor(nox),coils,timing chain go Bad often.Would only recommended bmw 6 cylinder 👍
