i have the exact same boat and i havnt had it out in a few years due to cracked leg.. I just bought a 2009 mercury tracker 90 horse.. cant wait to get the motor delivered and installed .

I just retro fit power trim and tilt on my 79 Evinrude 75 hp and i put a switch at the motor and the controls. Helps doing exactly what you were doing here. It's a 3 wire setup really easy to do. Omc switch is about $40 though a lil steep but I like OEM parts.

What does it do for the transom?

Not much really... it could stop a bit of vibration which would help my transom is in good shape boat spent about 25 years at the cottage and not on the road. The design was to possibly prevent my old engine lock from breaking because it seemed like a weak spot.

i used the same thing until i bought a transom saver. had rebuilt the transom on my banshee, and in 1 season of trailoring, formed 2 cracks on the transom. $45 from canadian tire later, i can hit the highway with no concerns. in case that term sounds new, a transom saver is a bar. its straped to the bottom end of the motor, and mounted on the back of the frame. taking all stress off the transom while trailoring.

Sorry, pal! You didn't understand yet that the motor shocks (vibrations) will still twist your tansom and one day you will have to clean the road of all the motor chunks when it will leave the boat TOGETHER with your transom. It seems too hard for you to visualize what moves together. I hope you will not cause a big accident behind you... Get a physics course and look at least at the pictures... All the motor vibrations have to go into the trailer, not in the motor itself (the motor is solidary to its support)! Don't show what "you invented" to your girlfriend...
