Great video Nick. I'm working on stripping the engine this winter. And great to see your using the AGU, obviously we spoke about the crank being forged 🙄 🤔on these but your build will give me all the information I need for my build.

I’m pretty sure they make a crank lock tool that would save you some scrap lumber in the future. A must have if you are doing these a lot.

Just from the previous vids do you use mk4 golf engine side mounts for the gearbox side because I ended up using 2x mk4 engine side mounts for both mounts on the sides and do you need to modify the subframe at all at the minute the engine and gearbox fits pretty nicely but if I can get any advice I take what I can get and run with it 😂👍

Great vid, going through the same at the moment, next time your at B&Q replacing your piece of wood get a MAP Gas Torch and heat that crankbolt, come off a breeze then.

Hi cheers, glad you like em. Suppose there's plenty of gremlins to look out for... I tend to only make videos of thing I do though, not really for educational or instructional purposes. It's a good idea though 👍

Hello mate, I’ve been after an engine for ages now for my mk1, why does everyone say I need to get the Agu ? What’s so special about it ?

Years ago people used to misguidedly think they were stronger due to having 20mm wrist pins. However that's simply not true. In terms of conversions and tuning they are the worst as they have narrowband fuelling. In terms of conversions id always pick a wideband engine, preferably a k04 so AMK, BAM. But a k03s version such as AUM and AUQ are just as good.

@@DecimalTenths well I’m finally in the position to buy an engine, my local scrapyard have got a tt in, code bup, What should I keep with the engine ? It’s going into a mk1 golf hopefully, be a while yet though, could I get the engine and box just to clean/ change gaskets, then get what ever I’ll need for when the time come to the swap ? Or do I need to keep parts that are integrated with that engine ? Thanks adam

What sort of power/torque will bam rods take

It's generally recognised that 300lbft of torque is the max for standard 1.8t rods. There is no guarantee as a lot of it is down to the hardware, and final mapping. I wouldnt personally go beyond stage 1 (270bhp, 300lbft) levels.

Thanks pal, the crank I'm using is a 92.8mm TFSI crank.

I’m going down the route of using a tdi crank in my AGU. Do you know about this business of modifying the 1.8t bottom belt pulley to fit the tdi crank? Thanks

@@Ravingbiker cool, you after a 2.1 motor? Never looked in to the mods needed for that to be honest, except clearancing for the oil squirters. Theres bound to be info out there. What cars it going in?
