The 2023 Colorado Trail Boss may have taken the top spot from the Frontier as the overall best midsize truck. It is quite capable of pavement and was a fun truck to test.
Thanks to Kevin for getting some fun drove shots. you can expect to see him on the channel doing some reviews on the near future!

I agree about 90%. It's certainly more manageable on trails and in parking lots! However, I've got 3 kids and a labrador. Kids have to be in car seats until they're pretty much 18 (I'm being sarcastic, but it does seem like it's much longer than it used to be), and car seats anymore are huge! Can't fit 3 across in this thing very easily.

Took my stock trail boss out to hidden falls adventure park and performed really well was able to pass through no name and boss hog.

I just bought a 2018 Colorado ZR2 and I live close by to this hill. Decided to test my truck out today on the hill. I know you like to see what a truck can do without all the features on... But I decided to go up in 4Low with both lockers on. The ZR2 went up it like it was nothing. None of the wheels slipped at all. Hill is more gnarly than it looks on camera.

Thanks for sharing! For sure if you lock everything up and carry a small amount of momentum this hill is super easy. It's hard to capture on video how bad this hill is. In a ZR2 there aren't many concerns, in a crossover that's a different story.

Nice video. Terrain Mode is not well documented on how it works. Got the below info from a GM document. Might get better results going downhill in L1 or L2 in Terrain Mode. Terrain Mode in D: Minor deceleration when off throttle and mild ability to modulate throttle; mimics performance of 4 r without torque multiplication. L2: Moderate deceleration when off throttle and moderate ability to modulate throttle; will bring vehicle to a stop in most cases. L1: Significant deceleration when off throttle and significant ability to modulate throttle; will bring vehicle to a stop in most cases.

No more diesel. This gas engine has more HP and torque, just not the fuel mileage and range of the 2.8 inline 4 diesel.

Great video !!!!! Did I hear correctly that applying slight pressure on the brake while keeping the other foot on the gas will engage the G80 quicker? Two footed driving.

Thanks for watching! Two footed driving is a great method for better control in many situations. However, the G80 is solely based on wheel speed difference. One wheel has to be spinning about 100 rpm faster than the other for it to lock. I don't know if I talk about that in this video or not, but when I creep very slowly, I can get Chevy's pinion control (brake based limited slip) to kick in and help make the climb without using the G80 at all.

Thank you for the response. I am a novice at this. So is it better to engage 4LO and proceed slowly when approaching an obstacle, rather than flooring the gas to attempt to engage the G80 ? I was not aware of brake based limited slip was available on 2023 Trailboss model. Good info.

@DavidKim-ok2yv go as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary. I'm in the West, going fast is asking to break something. With the G80 100 rpm difference really isn't that much to get it to lock. If you do what I've done in this video you'll be just fine. If you're driving two footed, keeping pressure on the rear axle after it's locked will keep it locked. For most technical off-road conditions you want 4wd low. 4wd high is good for forest service and fire roads. Baja style is 4wd high as well. 4wd low allows for better throttle control at lower speeds.

If the TB had the "E" locker in the rear and LED headlights with the option for the Bose I would not have even ordered a ZR2.

The G80 is great, but the Trail Boss is a more dedicated off-roader, it should have a selectable locker!

I think I talked a bit about it in the video, the G80 is great for on road and occasional off-road use. I much prefer a selectable locker! In the case of the Trail Boss, a gear driven limited slip with a selectable locker would be my top choice.

Now if only GM would offer an LT trimed Trailboss, with LEDs and heated seats/steering wheel, Like the full size trucks. I would buy one.

Yeah that's basically the GMC AT4 with all the convenience packages. But then you get all the piano black interior on the GMC. And I actually prefer the "stripped down" trail boss interior.

@@terrencejones9817I like the 20k price difference, I’ll have mine payed off in two months, plus I got the 430# torque upgrade so I have the same power , I think the Trail Boss looks way better than the Z71, I met a guy that wanted a Trail Boss and bought the Z71 instead and he’s very disappointed, the TB are harder to get than the Z71s

One pedal drive feature in Terrain mode was the feature you were looking for (and don’t think got to try in this video) Transfer case: 4hi Drive mode: Terrain mode Transmission: L1 (2,3,4…have less resistance) Smiles: 1
