Ford gave the Maverick LED headlights and it started at $19,995 when it launched last year. Chevy couldn't squeeze LED headlights into a 40k truck... Anyway, great review! I'm excited to see these on the streets. I think Chevy did a great job overall.

40k despite the fact they saved money in production by cutting cab/bed options, reused a notoriously weak transmission, and gave you one engine option...which is also reused. The production quality on Ryan's videos is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I watch all the KZbinrs that cover off road vehicles but this channel by far has the most detailed reviews, highlighting little things that actual users will notice, like how it shifts between low and high modes. Keep up the good work! Noticed on the dash that 14.6MPG was displayed. This is consistent with other videos I've seen from this event. Given how little GM has said about fuel economy I'm expecting this truck to disappoint. At this point I think the 19MPG city figure is not going to be representative of what most people will actually experience. Thanks for giving an HONEST review of this vehicle and not toting the line with GM's marketing department!

Much appreciated. And one think I’ve noticed is that once you add all terrain tires, 4/AWD and lower drive ratios everything will get from 17-21 MPG on average in the real world (much lower off-road of course.) Doesn’t matter if it’s a V6 or I4 Turbo.

I went in late December trying to inquire on a new colorado Z71, trail boss or ZR2. they told me at least 6-8 months. I was tired of waiting and I scooped another Tacoma TDR Off road again. It has been 3 years now since covid and I am tired of the BS with the semiconductors. Same thing with the Ranger raptor, everyone has it, Australia, Europe but not in the USA. We ended up with a Tesla Model Y to replace one of our vehicles. Never thought I would buy a Tesla or any EV so soon. Why? Tesla dropped the price 19.6% and you get a $7,500 federal tax credit. No games at the dealership either. I bought a gas car I ordered several months earlier and then had to waste two hours trying to get them to sell it to me at MSRP. I was going to do the same with our third vehicle, but I told my wife, we have two other gas vehicles, we will make the third electric.

The old canyon/colorado had 6 bolt wheels, too. Or at least my canyon all terrain does. Also, I think that interior on the work truck represents great value, but on the LT and trail boss it might be a bit lack lustre. It's a shame you need to go Z71 to get a nicer interior and LEDs though. Once you've driven something with LED headlights, it's pretty tough to go back to halogen.

We can't buy a ranger tremor in our part of the country for under 50k. Seems like the trailboss is a pretty good deal compared to the prices we're seeing. I think the concept of a more base off-road focused model is pretty cool but it needs to at least have options for LED lights and seat warmers for those in northern latitudes. Personally I would forgoeva bunch of screen tech for a more simple interior and better lights. More screen integration of functions that won’t work in 10 years is a big fail to me by most manufacturers. I think the G80 is a bit crude but is effective but how much more would the rear selectable locked from the ZR2 be? That would be a nice upgrade. The reduced rear seat legroom is a bummer, also not a fan of gas turbos in trucks. When I heard they were losing the diesel option for the ‘23 model year we went out and tracked down a ‘22 Duramax Z71 last July as I live that engine and makes for a really well rounded truck. Happy with our choice versus waiting for the new one.

I definitely like the looks. IMO definitely the best looking midsize on the market. Tacoma is probably 2nd. The last couple generations of Ranger just remind me of a doorstop wedge and I just don’t find them very attractive. I like squared off looks better on trucks than the wedgie spaceship front ends. The cheap interior is no surprise. I’ve owned several Chevys and their interiors have always been middling at best. Does seem like a pretty capable truck though. Based on this quick first review anyway. Looking forward to you guys putting it through its paces on your courses. Thanks for the awesome videos. They are my happy place escape from the work week. Looking forward to seeing this new crop of mid sized trucks, the Colorado, upcoming Ranger, Tacoma, etc. Most interested in the ZR2, new TRD Taco and new Tremor Ranger once they are all new. Of course it would be cheaper just to buy the truck or SUV you want/need and just bring a dirt bike for off road. It would do 10x what any super 4x4 could do for like $6k I mean I could have handles that with my 125cc Honda Monkey.

@@bolayer That's true, but if you're into camping and exploring, there's something to be said for a truck that can get you 95% of the way there and then you use a dirt bike or towed quad for that last 5%. All you need most of the time to get to that 95% point is 4wd and a decent wheel braking system, so the money saved absolutely buys that secondary vehicle.

The reviewer missed the mark on this review in my opinion by focusing so much on the interior for what is intended to be a basic version with moderate off-road ability. The Ranger Tremor interior comparison is also inappropriate as it is based on a mid level trim and MSRPs for $5600 more. He should be comparing a Z71 if focused on creature comforts. With auto head lights, why does it matter if they added the head lights controls to the infotainment system. I don't remember the last time I got in a car and had to manually turn the head lights. I just think it's a weak point to bring up against the truck .

I absolutely do not understand car manufacturers' obsession with putting things in the touchscreen that have no business being there. I'm sure their explanation about the headlights is "they're automatic" but the amount of people I see running around with DRLs (which don't turn on the tail lights for some reason) well past the time when their headlights should be fully on tells me that that feature isn't quite what it should be.

If I was living in Southern California still, I would have opted for an Outback Wilderness; I've done nearly all those trails in SD County from Idyllwild/Bear to the Border, and not only could my Onyx do all of that and more, but I could get 33mpg using EyeSight getting there and home on a unibody - and while the HK HU was/is annoying/the xmode being touchscreen - it seems easier than that and I don't have to mess with 4x4. Of course its not a truck, but for the single track SoCal overlanding stuff like that, where gas is 5.50 a gallon still, getting nearly 2x the mpg is a big factor too.

Looks like the new version is a nice truck, I really don’t care for the new tech screen and the need to fumble with that. I’m not sure yet of the newer 2.7, time will tell since it’s been out only 3 years or so. I have the 21 version ZR2 with the 3.6 and really happy with how simple and capable this truck really is. I like the electronic lockers though on my ZR2. I don’t see myself trading in any time soon. I just turned 15k on mine and will enjoy it for a very long time…

The 2.7 just sounds weak, although it has the numbers. I have a '22 ZR2 with the 3.6, and I also could not be happier. From what I have seen of new vehicles, I will have mine forever. The new 2.7 doesn't get great gas mileage, either.

Still don't understand why one would want a Colorado Trail Boss on 20's, when the trim's 18's perfectly fit the off-road theme, both asthetically and functionally (14:54 those are 20's, not 18's).

Driving Sports TV noticed the auto stop feature of the Terrain mode will jerk you to a stop when you let off the accelerator because the terrain mode is just for 4x4 low and crawling over difficult terrain, not for speeding down a dirt road like in the video. When going above crawling speed and off road or in loose terrain you should be in "off-road" and in 4x4 HI. Thats what I understand the setting to be used for. Anyone that knows better please explain.

Interesting you didn't like the interior that looks super dated. That was the reason I didn't buy a 2022 Ranger Tremor. I think the Ranger Trenor was the best truck available in 2022, but this Colorado looks miles better and should be equal or better than the Rangers powertain. (Trail Boss with EcoTek night have not felt as cheap. ) The next generation Ranger interior looks much nicer but the exterior style does nothing for me.

I think the interior would make this a pass for me plus I'm not a fan of the textured black front end. I'd step up to the Z71 or a Elevation with 4x4 depending on what I could find with what options. Or and this is a huge if. Find a ZR2 with no options at MSRP. That would be a lot of truck for $49k.

Look at the trucks payload and factor in the weight of you, whoever you’re with, the stuff you’re carrying, and then the camper itself. You’ll probably need a full size truck at least for the camper unless you want the frame splitting in half

The owners manual doesn’t restrict camper size, passengers, and cargo to rated payload. It prohibits use of slide in camper period or you void your warranty.

@@chillpengeru CR are people who have given feedback on any particular product. Chevy / GMC pickups have fallen to the lowest in reliability. A friend of mine bought a new Silverado to pull her horse trailer with and in less than a month the engine blew. Chevy bought her pickup back from her. The last Silverado I owned will be the last GM product I’ll EVER OWN. In fact my last 3 Chevy pickups were always in the shop. We won’t even buy them for our 10K acre ranch in MT.
