Should not the car be lowered to a level position before checking the oil level?
@EngineeredMojo4 жыл бұрын
@@liadbar-el8570 I don't understand the question in relation to the video. I don't check the oil level, but I do check for leaks. Car does not need to be level to check for leaks. For an oil change, I typically do not check the level as I know how much oil was put in the car, but if you had to check the level a flat surface would be best but would have a negligible effect on the reading unless your car is sitting at a high degree of angle

@EngineeredMojoАй бұрын
Appreciate the sub! And refilling the oil filter is your choice. It helps the engine not start on a short dry startup, but typical factory manuals only call for it if your timing belt tensioner is oil pressure activated. In many cars, the oil filter is installed sideways or "upside down" and pre fill is not an option like my 1995 EG Civic

Is it a necessity to replace the filter and the washer on the plug during each oil change?
@EngineeredMojo5 жыл бұрын
The filter yes everytime. The washer you are supposed to change everytime to avoid possible leak at drain plug but if I forget to pick up a washer I'll reuse old washer. Not the end of the world and rare you'll see a leak. If it does leak though you've wasted an oil change since you'll have to redrain pan. Small risk though

No problem, those jacks are from Walmart or Harbor Freight. Fairly basic no need to break the bank as long as the catch mechanism is solidly made. The jack is craftsman brand their 3 ton jack. It's a nice jack, purchased a few years ago during Black Friday for around $60. Sears are out of business around my way so it may be tough to find if there isn't a Sears open near you. I also use a harbor freight low profile jack for lowered vehicles. It's a good jack as well, but it's hit or miss if the box will have all the lock washers! Only complaint about Harbor Freight items. I had to return to store to get all pieces, but after that it's been great and has held up well.

I typically put in a 1/4 of a quart under the specified oil capacity given there will always be a small amount of left over oil in the engine. Then I double check level level with the oil dipstick to verify amount of oil in the vehicle. You don't need to be exact, but you don't want to be short or over by a large amount.

That oil type shouldn't be a problem, typically I'll run 5w30 oil in all of my Hondas and Toyotas for convenience. The 20 or 30 number just represent the viscosity of the oil at higher temperatures. For your year Civic, Honda recommends changing oil when maintenance required symbol (wrench) displays on your dash. This can vary based on driving conditions but generally is around 7500 miles (12km) between oil changes. The 5000km oil change mark is a value based on oil manufacturer marketing for the most part

Glad the video was helpful, never hurts to be careful and cautious doing an oil change!

Another idea : If someone is a first-timer, perhaps they don't have to take out the first drain plug from the oil pan. They just have to take out the filter. 80%+ of the oil will drain out anyway. The remaining old oil is too little to matter as it mixes with the new oil, and thus removing only one of the two possible drain points is sufficient for a first-timer. That way, the whole thing is less intimidating for the first-timer. They can do both the second time around. Or does only 50% drain if you do the filter first? In that case, nevermind.

That's a possibility, but I'd argue removing the oil filter is often tougher than removing drain plug haha. Given the relative simplicity of an oil change I'd advise draining from the drain slot to get it done.

What if you can't take the motor oil cap off to add more oil what do I do
@EngineeredMojo3 жыл бұрын
I'd try to use a rubber glove or a large plier to wrap around cap to take it off. There's is really no good way to fill oil except through the fill hole unfortunately for this type of car

what was that puddle under the car before u changed the oil?
@EngineeredMojo6 жыл бұрын
Inside The Cave condensed water discharge from the AC while I was warming up the oil, non concern but good eyes! Always like when someone can spot potential other problems!

Yeah I was wondering the same thing but my friend told me it was a/c discharge, because I was so worried my first car had a problem with oil leak, and thanks for your video. Everything helps

Why do I google my si and it says 5w 30 all over the internet but my cap says 5w20
@EngineeredMojo3 жыл бұрын
5w30 is a common oil weight and viscosity used for Honda motors especially in the 90s so many people list that as oil used

You cound punch a hole in the bottom of the oil filter with a screwdriver after loosening. first before removal. So it drains.

Just wanted to clarify it’s a 19mm wrench also for 2010 model?
@EngineeredMojo6 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure but most Honda oil drain bolts are 19mm and 17mm. Hard to go wrong having those two sizes to cover OEM drain bolts and possible aftermarket drain bolt that may have been installed
