Hot diggity that worked! Your side of hammer technique is genius. This middle aged non mason lady thanks you. Only thing I’d add is to wear eye and ear protection, cause hammer on chisel on stone is LOUD. Thank you!

I tried this. Just learned I need more patience. Thx! Circular saw is good but loud and makes a big mess.

This is great hand tool advice. Score, tap all the way round. So many videos where people just whack hard down the middle and get a jagged split

I've done this years ago, but i like your method. Just built a short wall and had a tiny ( like 3x3) space i knew I'd need to cut. Your video gave me the confidence to do it. Really like your videos.

@@EnglandAndy I started my yard journey when we moved here 6 years ago. My husband had leukemia, and sadly only got to live here for 7 months. Mobile home, less maintenance, no plans for a lawn. The installers left piles of excavated dirt. I brought 150 plants with me from old place on 1 acre. I'm still digging the ditch to finish the EZ drain fix, and swale. I'm currently in the middle of installing a paver pad at the bottom of back steps. I loved your video of that. I was reviewing the string level portion and love how precise you are. Removing the gravel there with a pick and shovel by 5 gal. bucket ¾ full isn't fun. I'm 67. But determined. Thanks again for what you post.

And it uses tools I already have in the garage! Some tutorials are talking about angle grinders and diamond bladed this and that. Thanks. It's worth mentioning that you should also wear eye protection, just in case. Little fragments can fly off when striking and land in your eye.

The paver was pre-scored on one side..!.depending exactly where you need to split it...you may or may not have that advantage

Are you turning your hammer sideways simply to avoid missing the chisel?
@EnglandAndy
@EnglandAndy 3 жыл бұрын
No, more surface area and less bounce so it's more of a dead blow.

The point of the video is just for basic tools. Not everyone has an angle grinder.

@@EnglandAndy sometimes hand tools are best for dust mitigation factor. Grinders are great but they don’t make a good mason.

Something's not right here. I've been chiseling away for 30 minutes on one brick, that looks exactly the same as yours (8x12x4). My lines are getting close to 1/4 inch or more deep.. I've hit each groove like 100 times... now I am literally drilling holes into the brick to try and get it to split. Either I'm just an idiot or this is some bullshit.
