This is one of my all-time favorites from The English Beat (aka The Beat)! Everything comes together so perfectly, especially the unrelenting rhythm and pace, reinforced by, well, everything. The 80's had lots of good saxophone, but it's next level in this song. If you haven't ever watched the original video, or not for a long time, well maybe you should do it right now?! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWSzqKx9fr-rjpo Love Ranking Roger's dance moves! RIP Ranking Roger. What great lyrics, and great bass line too! Wakeling says the song is not about cocaine, but was instead inspired by finding his wet clothes still on the bathroom floor while getting ready for construction work after a night out drinking. He had a little self-talk: "'Dave, we don’t have to do this, mate. We don’t have to do this.' And in the mirror behind me, the door of the bathroom had a tiny little latch on it, and I said to myself, 'The door’s locked. There’s only me and you. Just me and you here.'" So this evolved into a reflection on narcissism. Check out more highlights from the English Beat and the Darker Waves Festival here: kzbin.info/aero/PLmls2kb62BWLWfd4LHPMDYDHIFnoQvz3o Enjoy.
