Honda haven't gone down the value for money route with the TransAlp as they did with the Hornet. Cruise control, remote preload, a centre stand and tubeless tyres would have made this a much better bike for the £9,500.

Nice review & a handsome bike. Looks like a great adventure styled road bike with some light off road ability, which is perfect for most people. Honda will sell loads & loads of them! It may also steal some sales from their own African Twin as it's quite a bit cheaper & the reality is most people don't do any serious (if any) off roading anyway.
@chrishart8548 Жыл бұрын
It won't... sit on an Africa twin then sit on the transalp and feel the different it's night and day. The transalp is very cheap. The AF is a premium product.
@ragerider6283 Жыл бұрын
@@chrishart8548 You misunderstand me, I know they're not similar & on different levels. I simply meant that most people don't need the Africa Twins off road ability or want to spend more money then they have to. I'd wager over the course of the next 12 months, Honda will sell significantly more Transalp's than Africa Twins & that some people would buy the Transalp over the Africa Twin for the reasons I've mentioned. I could well be wrong of course but easy enough to verify with sales records in a year's time I guess.

@ragerider6283 everyone is going mad for the new transalp so sales will probably be outstanding. its a great bike for the money, and its a good vid. I seriously considered a touring bike before we went to Scotland in June, as touring on an MT-10 didnt sound appealing. How wrong i was. I loaded it up and rode 9hrs from staffordshire to Ben Nevis. we camped there the night and in 4 days we did Loch Lomand, Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, Inverness and many other places. 1133 miles in 4 days. £204 in fuel. We camped and cooked on an open fire. We rode home in one hit, splash and dash and the odd coffee. I looked like crap when i got home, but what an experience. I love touring bikes, but can you ride like a loon when you get on awesome roads like the highlands, the answer is no. Tour on a sports bike, its much more fun.

Hey Dan....coming from a Tiger 850 sport, how does the new TA compare in terms of power delivery and handling? I've yet to see a direct comparison but I reckon these two bikes are pretty close rivals, in terms of how they're likely to be used.....neither will see much dirt, both will be chosen for accessibility (seat height) output, touring capability and price. I've yet to test ride either so would be interested to hear your views.
@Englishbikerdan Жыл бұрын
To me the TA felt so much lighter and more nimble than the Tiger 850 that I see them in very different categories. Sure, their will be some crossover but there's no way I wanted to take the 850 off road, even with the crash bars but I would happily fly about on green lanes on the TA. If the TA had tubed tyres, I'd say it's a complete win.

@@Englishbikerdan Thanks for getting back Dan. Trumpet fans will no doubt be gnashing their teeth! I'm guessing those with a mind to do more serious off roading on a 'middleweight' would choose something other than the Transalp, but here's the interesting thing: most of the reviews I've seen have been done by folk who don't generally do much riding off piste, but they all agree that it is pretty confidence inspiring when they do. That suggests to me that after a while, and with more experience, owners may find the bike's limitations sooner than say the Tuareg, or T7, both of which are considerably more capable off road. Similar situation with Honda's CB500X; excellent all-rounder limited off road by design. There are two tricks Honda are missing: a Transalp 'R' and a CB 500 X 'R'...both equipped with fully adjustable suspension, improved ground clearance, tubeless spoked rims, engines tuned for better low down torque, wider ratios, protection as standard, with switchable ABS. Sod the rider modes. No reason why Honda couldn't do this, instead of leaving it to the aftermarket.

Ok so it has a few extra rider modes, but realistically, who is going to take it off road with road based tyres ? Plus imagine dropping it on a green lane with all those unprotected side plastic’s. I liked the Hornet when I took one for a ride, and the price is about right. @@just_a_quick_ride I did it once on the cb500x to raise it to max height and as it's strong don't have to worry about it coming sliding loose. I think I just took all the 4 screws off and then put them back, that manual sounds like it's overcomplicating things.

@@GeordiLaForgery I expect if i took a dremel to my allen key then it could be done with 4. 👍 on the manual ... weird.
@GeordiLaForgery Жыл бұрын
@@davidaldridge7652 it only takes about 30 seconds to get the screw off by hand but if you've got a dremel go for it 😂👍

Too expensive for a twin 750 "road" bike. The T7 is way better IMO!!

That last 2008 Transalp was awful. No wonder it finished the model for a good while.

It really was it was heavy, underpowered. Had a 19" front wheel conventional forks very small front discs plastic sump guard. Black painted steel exhaust. I got a F800gs because it was the same weight and basically addressed all those other issues.

I went from a brand new 800GS to the XL700 TRANSALP after headstock bearing failed at 8k miles on the BM. Now have XL750. Different animal all together ❤️ Looking forward to the spring.

The hornet and this both have that ugly cb500x style headlight. Real shame cos otherwise they look decent.

No bash plate ..not very inspiring..No thanks

Honda offer a bash plate as an optional accessory. This keeps the base price lower and the buyer can decide if they want an OEM accessory, or another brand, or none at all. A lot of riders will never go off-road on these types of motorcycles.

I heard suspension was soft like most Hondas ? Interesting
