It actually is marching song. The "raz, dwa, trzy" is march rythm to which you suppose to step down onto ground so everyone will march at the same speed.

1:57 You can use both “jeden” and “raz” to count “one”, they’re the same. And “trzy” is not “che”, “trz” is something like “tsh” and “y” to me is something between “eh” and “uh” in English (I’m not Polish, only spend time to look it up)
@smiglo112
@smiglo112 Жыл бұрын
Jeden is the countable form of One. Jeden człowiek - one human, jeden banan - one banana, jedna sekuna - one second. Raz is a little bit more like "once". Both can be used in a countdown like this though a more apropriate translation would thus be "One, two, three" vs "Once, two, three"
@Stefiiiz
@Stefiiiz Жыл бұрын
@@smiglo112efinitely not "once, two, three", that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. "One, two, three" is perfectly fine, it doesn't matter in this context that "raz" also means "once" ;)
@smiglo112
@smiglo112 Жыл бұрын
@@Stefiiiz Yeah, no. It makes sense, just not in English. "Raz" is a very coloquial way of counting, the linguistically correct one is "jeden/jedna/jedno". The word "raz" is paired with a count to mean "x times". For example "jeden raz" would be "one time" or "once". So yes, raz can coloquialy be understood as "one" while technically being a short for "one time", thus "once". Therefore the coloquial counting system in Polish would indeed be "once, two, three..." Or, think of it like this. You're counting something "once"... Therefore presumably only one of it.
@Stefiiiz
@Stefiiiz Жыл бұрын
@@smiglo112 No, it doesn't. Translations don't work that way. It is, indeed, a colloquial way of counting in Polish, but it would never translate to "once, two three", even though "raz" in other collocations would mean "once".
@smiglo112

The song was created in 1917. The Polish legions fought as part of the Austro-Hungarian army. The first Polish military formation in the 20th century. For Poles, they are important because thanks to their fight during World War I, we regained independence. An interesting fact is that the legions were often enlisted by women disguised as men. In 1917, a large part of the legionnaires refused to take the oath of allegiance to a foreign monarch. Instead, they were interned in camps, some of them were conscripted into the Austro-Hungarian army. That's it in a nutshell about the Polish Legion ;)

So about the coffee. I think they mention it in the song because back then the quality of it was definitely worse than it is now. There were only two types of coffee: grain and natural. During the PRL people drank natural coffee only a few times a year. Also, the drink that is today's tea was called "plujka" because after drinking it you would spit out different kinds of leaves.

It was actually a marching song ..the polish people are tough and things that demoralising for others actually raise their moral ..my ex was polish and despite having to struggle with many psychological disorders since her childhood she would absolutely be tough as nails when it comes to hardship and crises ..when our home was uninhabitable in the earthquake I thought she would panic similar to everyone among our neighbours (I have lived through war so I don't panic ) but god bless her she was calm ..only thing she said was :"kurrrwa ...at least we now HAVE TO find a less noisy place "
