Hi teacher! Incredible job as Always. In Brazilian Portuguese not rarely we can hear people in the stores and restaurants saying something like "honey" to strangers (querido/querida). Personally I do not like it that is why I agree with you, we have to be careful with these terms of endearment. But, I do plan to use some of these terms with my boyfriend. Thank you so much to share your knowledge with us. I love all your lessons :)
@Englishwithjennifer10 жыл бұрын
Hi Vivian. I think I hear my Brazilian friends use "my daughter" when they address their girls, where I might use something else like "my baby girl." Don't you have a lot of words ending in -inha to make them sound cute? I guess that's like our -kin or -ie. In any case, thanks for watching this holiday lesson. :)
@MichaelLanes10 жыл бұрын
JenniferESL Actually "inha" (or "inho") makes them diminutives. In some cases this can makes the word sounds cute.

Oh dear teacher Jennifer, you really impress us by your creativity!!, and specially by this unforgettable lesson!!. By the way teacher, I used to use some of these terms when I tried to flirt girls on www.verbling.com but unfortunately it didn't work sometimes as some girls banned me when I said to them words like "sweetheart" and "darling". I remember one day I was talking in a group with some people on that website, and among them there was a very pretty Spanish girl called "DAIDA", and as I always can't resist in front of such beauty I said to her :"Hey darling!!...how are your cute eyes?", but one of the chatters who was from Pakistan said:"hey man you are in group not alone" and I replied:"who cares dude??!!...who cares??!!...you know...love is blind!!...love is blind dude!"...What shall I say teacher??!!...Do you know what people call me on www.verbling.com?...They call me "Nadim the womanizer"..looooooooool....Well, anyway, I think this great lesson will absolutely help me to practice the Romantic English with chickens (let's say "chickens" anyway)...And as always I would like to address you with a bunch of thanks teacher, and I'm really sorry for my casualty :). Best regards. Nadim from Tunisia.
@Englishwithjennifer10 жыл бұрын
Hi Nadim. I'm glad you want to discuss this because I understand it can be tough to figure out the boundaries. Generally, if you're unsure, it's best to err on the side of caution until you know someone really understands you and knows you don't mean offense. Personally, I'm quite open to a range of addresses online. People who write to me are generally sweet and friendly, and there's also the issue of cultural differences, so when you factor that in, the gray area becomes even wider. "Dear" and "angel" are easier to accept than "baby" or something else too intimate, like "sweet lips"! BTW - Please don't refer to women as "chicks"! (Or "chickens.") That will definitely get you into trouble, and you don't want to scare single ladies away, right? :)

Jennifer! Lovely teacher! My question can be irrelevent but......when I read the poem, I was wondering..... (should we put a coma after "too" ? )Like: A : I love you B : I love you, too.Can't we say simply (I love you too) ?And is it the same thing for (either) ?Like: A: I don't love you B: I don't love you either./ , either.
@Englishwithjennifer9 жыл бұрын
+Amina TAHRI Hello Amina. There are different patterns to follow with commas. I was taught to place a comma before "too" when it's at the end of a sentence. It's a pattern listed in some style guides that writers and publishers follow. Other style guides will say it's fine to leave the comma out. I love you, too. / I love you too. Yes, you're correct about "either." We use it in negative statements to show agreement. I don't love you. /I don't love your either. Regards!

@Englishwithjennifer10 жыл бұрын
I might have said, "The President was going to deliver a speech..." We can use a form of BE + infinitive to state official plans or requirements. 1. All employees are to report to their work stations by 9:00 a.m. 2. You are to take this document and deliver it directly to the client. Your example used a perfect infinitive. The plans were made, and the expectation was there, but the action didn't happen.

Hello! I saw in some commentaries we should be careful saying babe. Never BAE, cause bae is not a good word in some languages and even in English can stand for "before anyone else". BTW could you tell us, please, how we may begin conversation with non-white-skin teen male not saying 'boy' and why?
@Englishwithjennifer10 жыл бұрын
Hi Aleksei. There's some slang I'm not familiar with. BAE is one term I don't know. "Babe," however, is a common term of endearment you can use for your girlfriend or wife. You'll hear "baby" and "babe" in many songs. Is your second question about the use of "boy" as a form of address? In general, it can sound disrespectful to a man, regardless of his skin color. By using "boy" and not "sir," you're not showing proper respect to a stranger who is a full-grown man.

What I've done there is double up on subjects. I sometimes found that learning a new area of English didn't always sink in the first time, so to help get the message across I hit the students with different teaching styles.on the same subject. I just wished the thumbnails on playlists weren't so tiny :>)
@Englishwithjennifer10 жыл бұрын
stunninglad1 I'm glad you promote that kind of learning. I do, too. I think it's useful to hear different presentations, and it's important to pull yourself in different directions as a learner. How easily can you adapt to different speaking and teaching styles? That's a question we all should ask ourselves.Yes, I hear you about the thumbnails. I'm learning how to design them as I go along. :)
@stunninglad110 жыл бұрын
JenniferESL I like to think I can adapt. My teaching styles varies. In some of my English videos, I don't speak at all. However, i personally like to hear a voice when learning, so I will only release that type of video with a subject that is easy to explain or has another video to along with it. I was thinking about making a video as a slideshow that lists all the irregular verbs and shows them in their past participle form. Do you remember I was telling you about the time I thought about inventing a pot that stirs itself? I have came up with a new invention: A magnifying feature on You Tube for viewers to see the thumbnails in playlists. :>)

Every person and family is different. Some are more physically affectionate and hug and kiss a lot. Others don't do that. Your godfather's wife might call everyone "angel." She feels kindly towards others. I think it's a bit unusual, but it's not shocking in any way.
