I’m sorry but I don’t agree with the first sentence, I can’t see the past simple in this sentence, for example “you had thought of improving your English before you decided to play this video” so in this sentence there are two actions and the past perfect is used but in your sentence the present perfect sounds better

The past simple you can't see is "DECIDED". I'm afraid the present perfect doesn't make much sense in this sentence, what you could say instead if you prefer it, is: "BEFORE PLAYING THIS VIDEO".👍🏻
