sometimes and some times
@躺平吧-e9t11 күн бұрын
@@龍眼榴槤 Sometimes, some time, sometime; they have different meanings. Sometimes means occasionally, e.g Sometimes I stay up late. "Some time" means a certain period of time, e.g. I need some time to clean up the place. Sometime means at an unspecified time in near future, e.g. Shall we have lunch together sometime? Sometime also means "former", e.g. Mr XXX is a sometime singer (he is no longer a singer) Sometime, when used in this sense, should not be mixed up with the noun "has-been" which refers to a person or thing considered to be no longer of importance. However, I doubt if anybody would use "some times" in either written or spoken English. My two cents only.

adjective for noun or pronoun adverb for verb, adjective or another adverb
@stephenlam767711 күн бұрын
I have studied English for 35 years. I wouldn't go as far as calling myself an expert but I feel comfortable to shed some helpful light on this topic. While Maggie's explanation is correct, using "everyday" or "every day" really depends on how the sentence is phrased. I get up at 6 O'clock every day - Here "every day" is an adverbial phrase. It's function is the same as "usually", "often" or "when the alarm goes off" which all modify the action " I get up at 6 O' clock ..." In the sentence " Everyday, I have two eggs and one sausage". Everyday was written as adjective but used as an adverb which is incorrect. From the listening perspective, it is completely perfectly correct because Everyday or Every day sounded the same. However, from a writing perspective, this sentence should be written as two words; " every day" and the reason is the same as I have explained above. An adverbial phrase can be placed at the beginning or the end of a sentence without compromising its grammatical property. With the same sentence, we could also say "I have two eggs and one sausage every day". The traffic congestion is an EVERYDAY event in Downtown San Francisco. Notice EVERYDAY is one word when used as adjective.

Everybody, everyone: same meaning. Everyone is more formal, and is used in written English; while everybody is used in colloquial speech. Anyone, anybody, nobody: singular in form. Therefore, Does anyone care for some coffee? Is anybody absent today?

Every day=each day 既是noun phrase (名词片语)也是adverb phrase(副词片语), everyday是adjective (形容词)。
你好. 可否講解 "though" 用在句尾的意思, e.g. Food still very good though. 謝謝
@躺平吧-e9t13 күн бұрын
句尾的though是contradict之前句子的內容. 例: The service is poor. Food is good though. Some other ways to rewrite these 2 statements: Although the service is poor, the food is good. Despite / notwithstanding poor service, I'd recommend this restaurant because the food is good. My two cents only.

Does the same rule apply to everyone (anyone) vs. every one (any one)?
@躺平吧-e9t13 күн бұрын
Not exactly. every day (2 words) is an adverb phrase; everyday (1 word) is an adjective. However, any one (2 words) is an adjective phrase that refers to a single person or thing. Example: Any one of the students in this class knows the answer. Anyone (1 word) is an indefinite pronoun that refers to any person, not a specific individual. Example: Does anyone know the answer?

Setup vs. set up 呢?😊
@躺平吧-e9t10 күн бұрын
set up (2 words) is a verb which means to have something arranged or prepared, e.g. I need to set up the computer. setup (1 word) is a noun, e.g. I need to learn the setup of the computer system. setup (1 word) can be used as an adjective as well, e.g. You need to follow the setup instructions. to set someone up is an expression which means to trick someone in order to make them feel guilty of something they have not done.
Sometime 和 someday有小小分別: Sometime 近乎 soon. 例: Shall we have lunch together sometime? Someday所指的將來較遠. 例: I want to become a journalist someday. Sometimes 可用在句子開頭, 中間, 或最尾: Sometimes I stay up late. We all make mistakes sometimes. Euthanasia has sometimes been debated.

Although Even though
@躺平吧-e9t13 күн бұрын
same meaning. Even though is more emphatic. Although is like 雖然 in Chinese, while even though 即使. Consider these 2 statements: Although it's raining, I go out without an umbrella. 雖然下著雨, 我沒有雨傘就外出. Even though it's raining, I go out without an umbrella. 即使下著雨我也不帶雨傘就外出.

Apart from Maggie's explanation, thumbs up is phonetically easier to enunciate than "thumb up", especially when we link the "s" sound to the next word "up".
