Lol! I've been working my ass off on trying to learn all those non-sense phrasal verbs and idioms only to find out that such expressions should be avoided on the exams cause It's not academic english. Someone shoot me, pls! You're an excellent teacher, Rebecca! You have no idea how hard It is for us brazilians to speak up as fluently as a native english speaker. You've turned it all much easier! Thank you so much!

Dear Rebecca, could you explain the use of single quotation marks and normal ones, fairly common in older academic texts the use of single ones and they do express a useful distinction when normal ones feel too bulky. Best regards Chris

Roya, removing personal pronouns still allows for opinion in writing, it simply offers an opportunity to make stronger opinion statements. I.E. - "I think bears are evil".

Thanks a lot its a really useful video, just when I needed. Could you suggest a book to learn this. I mean where I can learn what is slang and what is not like in your example kids vs children. Also I want to avoid simple and vague language. So is there any way to learn this. Thanks once again.

Regarding the point on "Negatives", I must mention that when you use negatives, you might offend someone. For example, saying - "You are wrong " is very direct and harsh way to disagree with someone. Saying - "That is NOT right" or "That is NOT entirely accurate" is a more toned down way of disagreeing. So I would prefer negatives.......I get pulled up by my boss often for things like these, because he has a an ego, the size of the former USSR.
