Russ Hudson explains type 5s replace the instincts with the mind. Disconnection from the body (and the information provided by natural instincts), produces a sensation of 'lostness'; a sensation that there's madness outside of me, and the madness is inside of me. "As a child, the adults around me were just as lost as I was, and were pretending that they knew" (Hudson)

For a while I hated my type, but I took a step back to understand the purpose behind the enneagram. It is a guide for us to become better, we have much potential and room for growth as 5’s. I really enjoyed this and have become aware of who I am at my core. Advice for others like myself, 5W4 Social Type, get active and get physical. Take care of yourself, this will help you more than you know. It does for me anyway.

I think there is a mistake in Social 5, Social 5's are not usually confident about themselves. According To Naranjo's Avaricia Book: The sense of emptiness experienced by Social 5 goes hand in hand with an impoverished self-image(as opposed to the idealized image of his totem) and a feeling of worthlessness.His personal value is almost always questioned,measured by his totem ruler,who makes him believe that knowledge gained is never enough.This belief that ''I am not or that I am not ready yet.'' feeds their lack of self-confidence.
@typhoelogy Жыл бұрын
hi, to clear up what i said: i said they're the *most* confident 5 *out of all the subtypes*. although they are inherently not as confident in general compared to other enneagram subtypes, they are the "most" by e5 standards. by enneagram 5 standards, its pretty confident for them to be more out there externally due to the social instinct. however, you are correct in pointing this out.

Incredible video. I'm a 5w6, and I feel like it's so on-brand for types like us to be drawn to this content, ever seeking more knowledge while desperately avoidant of personal incompetence. It's honestly kind of paradoxical how I can see aspects of myself in each of the subtypes; a social five when in academic and professional settings (yet still very much a hypersensitive introvert), a sexual five when it comes to my idealization of relationships on all levels from acquaintances to life-long partners, and a self-preservation five striving to require as little as possible from others in hopes that they do the same for me (fearing that the second I over-devote myself, I'll be completely drained of what little energy I have. It's that same very avarice that sits at the core of all fives.) Ironically as fives, our analysis often prevents us from genuinely understanding those around us. We're so wrapped up in categorizing, compartmentalizing, and verifying that we often forget and, in some cases, willfully ignore that emotions make up a large portion of the human experience; they're transient, volatile, and often very brittle and consequently, for fives despite not being able to grasp them as deeply and interconnectedly as others it does make sense that in the emotional department, where we feel the most incompetent and helpless, our neuroticism practically spikes, it's just more cognitive for us than others). We're so driven by fear we often fail to consider any possibility that doesn't border on abject pessimism; it gives us an overly skewed and quite dark view of the world, and I think that's reflected in the content we consume (I personally love Sci-Fi, psychological, dystopia/(failed utopia), mystery, thriller, horror, fantasy, mystical, (and of course some romance)). You did an amazing job with the shows and anime you used to depict fives. I've legit got each and every one of them either fully completed or on my watchlist. I'd say my favorite five-like characters, they don't perfectly fit the mold, but they're quite good, are Oreki from "Hyouka" and Okabe from "Steins; Gate." (Okabe is more of a seven but fives often lean more towards seven in stress and for the most part of Steins; Gate 0 Okabe acted like a five). I'd recommend for all fives to watch Clannad; it'll unlock emotions you might've never known you had. It's not quite most fives' cup of tea, but if you're really able to get into the story, it's definitely worth it. Feel free to toss me any tv show, anime, movie, or book recommendations. Thanks for reading :)

If you like anime, Haikyuu is a really good one as it is not just about high school volleyball, but also shows a lot about people. It has (imo) really well written characters and my favorite is Tsukishima (altho i did not like him in the beginning of the show). He is a 5 and has some good character development, especially in season 3. The show is inspirational, has comedy, and just a good/fun vibe while showing different character's pov and background stories. I will see what Clannad is about. as an sp5, I thought wfh was the answer until I was expected to meet deadlines and follow rules I don’t even think are well-constructed. I don’t like hanging out with close friends or family members, especially after a long day at work or an exhausting week. When I go out, I only go where I should go and don’t tarry. Relationships scare me, even a single hint of intimacy makes me cringe and dread a contact with the other person. This is a lonely place, but whenever I’m alone doing the things I choose to do and learning new information, I feel lighter inside.

I am an ENTP 5w6 So/Sx. I just wanted to see if things are checking out. As an ENTP, the introverted 5 doesn’t always make sense for me; but the impulsive, crazy, and wreckless behavior of a lot of ENTPs doesn’t either. Some moments I’m almost the life of the party, while other moments I’m watching educational KZbin videos locked in my room while I think. I formulate, modify, and analyze my worldview. In the end I can’t lock myself away for more than a few hours, and then I’m ranting or discussing endlessly with others about what I have learned. I would LOVE to be a public speaker/podcaster someday even though I am an enneagram 5 and have a biochemistry degree.
@typhoelogy Жыл бұрын
I believe you have a very stereotypical view on typology so let me help you out. 1. being an ENTP has nothing to do with behaviour, MBTI/Socionics/Jungian is not behavioural but cognitive. ENTPs are not reckless, impulsive, or crazy. 2. Introversion and extraversion are more complex in typology than just “being the life of the party” and then “staying at home and watching videos”. It is about external vs internal focus. Extraverted types are cognitively externally focused, Ne doms (ENxPs) are focused on collecting possibilities and opportunities through external information presented to them. This is not behavioural. Look into Socionic/Jungian functions 3. Im not one to be huge on contradictions, but E5 ≠ Extraversion, even if its SO5. E5 is far too internally focused, they are concerned with their own intellectual world and being safe from the external. Their insecurity and instability in the external world makes little sense if you’re also extraverted in Socionics/Jung, as extraverts do not feel insecurity or instability in the external since they prioritise it. 4. Consider ENTP E7 or INTP/IT(n)/LII SO5

Hi I'm currently stuck between so7 and so5. I relate to both the commentaries by naranjo but can you tell me the differences between them according to your understanding?
@typhoelogy11 ай бұрын
The SO7 is more self-interested, extraverted, and emotional overall compared to the SO5. Even though the SO7's biggest fear is emotional pain as well, they cope with it through seeking opportunities and interacting with the external world, whereas the SO5 will withdraw and isolate as a coping mechanism. Basically, the SO7 utilises the external world to its advantage, whereas the SO5's avarice makes them more reserved and wary about external interaction (even if it is a social dominant type). The SO7 is far more self-referencing due to narcissism and more likely to weaponise others to fulfill this. The SO5 is also far more stingy, particular, and pretentious. They are not as open or diverse to different fields of knowledge and interactions like the SO7 because the SO7's gluttony still manifests as a need for more (even if it is repressed at times). SO7s are far more superficial and adaptive/chameleon-like in behaviour, allowing them to front that "good" and "saintly" appearance, which the SO5 is not so specialised in. also SO5s collect knowledge for protection against fear, SO7s collect knowledge to feed gluttony/need for more @so7itude on tiktok has a really good explanation on the differences that are more in depth.

Why do you think Amy is a sx5 ? *Amy seems to worried about how other people see her (this may don't show as approval, she may seem cold but is not exactly how Patrick Bateman seems?) She quit something, her parents would make a book at how amazing she was at that, they manipulate the narrative, she learn from them. Actually may Amy was afraid that if she didn't have a successful marriage her parents would make a book about how great her counterpart "Amazing Amy" got it instead lol. *Actually the way they describe Amy in the book is like she is a chameleon, she is what people want. This is highlight when she calls Desi, she says she knows Desi likes sad trouble girls, and that is why she cries and makes it seem like Nick is the bad guy so he can help her, but Desi close the door every time he leaves, so she can't escape him but she used him anyway. *I heard that sx5 shape their partner into their ideal husbands, but In the book she thought Nick was an idiot, just like any other men who like cool girls when she met him and still she was okay playing the part if he was also playing his part of "loving" her, but later he make her feel like she was one of those women that their partners avoid when they came home, like she is not cool, fun anymore. That is why she said that Nick make her something that she didn't like, destroyed the image she created and that was "murder". She comes back to Nick when she saw him on tv. Not because "that is the men I fell in love with" but actually I think she came back to him because she realize that Nick can still pretend, fake it - how they say fake it till you make it. In the book she realize that with Nick she was more free than with Desi and that is why she gave Nick a 2nd chance. I interpret this as Amy wanting attention for more than just a partner, she wants people to know she has an amazing relationship. So I would like to know how you interpret her as a 5? because is hard to see it for me, I mean she is smart and quiet self-assure that is what i got, anything else seem more like 3.

Heyyo, what would you say is the defining distinction between a social 4 and an sx 5, was wondering if i was one of those or a 6 waiting for the 6 video to confirm
@typhoelogy Жыл бұрын
sorry for the late response -- I'd say the attachment to internal emotions. SO4 are far more attached and confident in their own emotional world, and use it as a guide for how they navigate the world and identify themselves. SX5s definitely tend to be more withdrawn and little more insecure about internal emotions, they view the expression of emotion as dangerous just like any other 5, and they will only share these emotional experiences with that particular person/connection they strive for! SX5 is also far more picky and selective, coming off as pretentious as times and do not engage in hypercomparison or caring to fit into social ideals. SO4 as an SO type cares a lot about how they can fit their authentic selves into the social sphere - leading to hypercomparison and low self-esteem

@thenameproblemhasbeenfixed70418 ай бұрын
Not the creator, but they haven't responded yet so: LVEF doesn't exactly make much sense with SX5. while 1L, 3E, and 4F all do align with the SX5, the issue is to be found in the 2V. SX5s don't exactly have an "equal" view of everyone as the 2V would, nor do they have a positive view of themself and neither do they have a positive or trusting view of others. They're stated to easily bend to the desire of the other, which is extremely uncharacteristic of 2V, which, although tends to be a helpful and dutiful placement, typically holds its beliefs and desires even if external pressure is put on them. Think of 2V as a sort of "collaborator" placement. It helps, but it also offers. The SX5 doesn't collaborate, it simply gives up and does what the other wants, perhaps secretly resenting them in the process, and in other cases it simply won't listen. It's said to practice a secret rebellion against authority, such as messing up their own work, or doing it slowly. The SX5 is very keen on not asserting itself in the world, but the 2V would be eager to do so. LEVF works because as established earlier, SX5 bends to the will of the other which is characteristic of low will. Also, the 2E in this instance will manifest differently because of the influence from the 3V, which really drags down all of the other functions. I think this is enough, but I can elaborate if needed.
@seraphicdreams8 ай бұрын
@@thenameproblemhasbeenfixed7041Thank you for explaining me , it was clear and understable, I don't think I need any further explanations ;) Honestly I do think that LEVF could work with me , the thing is that I feel like it doesn't really align with Te and Fi ( and I'm definitely not an Infj ). It probably makes more sense than LVEF though , since as you stated earlier 3V "drags down" the other aspects and I do relate to 3F and 3E for an exemple . I will probably have to make more researches but thank you 😭

Wings were created because people that got taught by Naranjo wasnt informed about subtypes So they created wings as a way to explain subtypes which is not ok and comes from nowhere

Love the Anime, however, I think L's on the autism spectrum rather than a 5. :)

Chess girl is unbearable. And I'm more of a Kira kinda guy, but L is cool too. Lastly I always detested the pursuit of knowledge/school, feeling like it has nothing to do with intelligence or common sense. If anything I desired to know as little as possible, while nevertheless being very inquisitive about _my interests._ Then again SO-5 is not my primary type, but it's a major presence.

5’s pursuit of knowledge is based on this idea of needing to protect themselves from the external world out of fear. so as long as you do that, youre still a 5.
