9w1 - Whole. Altruistic. Moral. Righteous anger. Almost masochism to be overlooked. 9w8 - Flagrant anger. Personal anger. Stoic. Strong, silent. Cold. Stubbornness. Pushes back more. Offended when preferences unheard.

Thanks for the helpful video. I’m Type Nine and have been studying the Enneagram for many years. While this video is, indeed, insightful and helpful, who do not speak to the possibility of actually having both 8 and 1 wings, which I am convinced is the case for me. For many years, I was the only Type Nine in my immediate circle of family. However, now I have a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren that are also Type Nine. The four of us offer a good “sampling” of the uniqueness and possible differences in temperament and expression of a type, and have also contributed to my awareness of the influence of both wing 8 and 1 for me. (I might also mention that with a mother and life partner that are Type One and an adult son that is Type Eight, I’m very familiar with each of these types as well.) In any event, thank you for the helpful video. When life with your passel of wee ones settles in a bit more, perhaps consider addressing the possibility of discussing typing with both wings. I did read in at least one source that it was a bit more common with Type Nine than other types, and I also have read at least one source that felt everyone is influence by both of the wings their core type is sandwiched between, although acknowledging that one wing might have preference. Congrats on your babies, and blessing to you and your family!

Thanks for the feedback! In most of my videos I do acknowledge what I call “balanced wings”, though I do think it’s important and helpful to determine which is dominant, even if by a small amount. Still others have very heavy wings, so it’s a mixed bag. Very cool that you have other 9’s around you to see the full spectrum of possibility!💛

Thanks for the video. I'm still not sure what I am (Just like a 9) however, this helped me to understand both of the wings. I feel like I lean toward a 9w8.

My brother is a 1 and always liked to tell me how little of the truth I knew compared with him... 😂 I just took it in and secretly I knew that I saw right through him and knew the truth way better because I sat in every conversation and consensus gathered and gleaned and listened carefully to every human motivation and need and agenda...

Thank you so much for this video! Super informative. I had an inkling that I'm a 9w1, and this confirmed it. :) I wish you all the best with your upcoming labor and children!

I'm glad you got to release this! Anger has defined much of the past few years of my life sadly. I would describe it as both personal and self-righteous at times. I feel like I'm a 9w1 that finally had enough. I've under reacted for so long to my harm that with some people I err on being harsh and overreact. I admire the 8 traits a lot and have tried hard to improve in this area.

I am an INFP 9w8 and I struggle with being a loving and caring person who wouldn't hurt anyone but if someone attacks me verbally I black out from anger and I've come very close to really hurting a couple of people but thankfully my 31 year old son stopped me then I feel really guilty and ashamed of my behavior and it's usually a crazy neighbor who's verbally assaulting, I now moved to the country and I have no neighbors but I really need help learning how to control myself before I lose myself

Sorry for this late reply, but as a fellow 9w8 who has been there may I offer some advice? Just blacklist the people who drive you to that anger. It sounds terrible and harsh, but for me I either say "OK, that's it. You're dead to me." or else I go Clint Eastwood "The Man with No Name" on them. It's like a switch flips in my brain for that person. If I ever meet that person again I am all nice and cordial, but it's 100% superficial. What they think, what they say, it all means nothing to me. I smile, I'm cordial, but there are some people with whom I will never be able to have a positive interaction. So I just smile brightly, say "Oh hi, how are you?" and keep walking. The way we're wired, that's the best we can do for the extremely rare person in the world whom we just cannot get along with. The funny thing is, the vast majority of those people won't have a clue they've been blacklisted, so the all-important peace is maintained.

Hi! When comparing core/wing inverse types as you’ve described, I think we tend to over complicate it. Really it comes down to which motivations rule you more. Heavy wings can be hard that way (I have one, and sometimes I joke that I’m half 4 and half 5😂) but one does rule us more, even if not by much. Looking more closely at the health patterns (and seeing each core on its own) is a great tactic!

This was very helpful, and it makes me want to share it with everyone who knows me! I have heard that it is possible for 9 to be the one number on the Enneagram that can have both wings be equally strong - do you see this as being true?

Hi! I’m so glad this material was helpful, share away! I have personally never heard that theory, and would say that I’ve found the existence of “balanced wings” is possible with any core type. Hope that helps!

Ha, thanks! ;) I totally get why that misidentification is an easy one to find yourself in. One of the main distinctions is self-focus (4) vs. self forgetting (9), and of course the big difference between being a heart type and a gut type. Generally, though very philisophical, 9's struggle a lot to know about themselves and their own feelings-- they know more about how the outside world is connected, but not so much about themselves or their own feelings. 4's are also generally more aesthetically aware than 9's. I'll have to make a video on this topic. Thanks for chiming in!

Awesome Bruno and Enneagram Girl. I was planning to come on here and comment that after watching this video, I am switching from identifying as an 8 to a 9w8. But I also used to identify as a 3w4 so it's very confusing! I see both sides of my personality, both aggressive and withdrawing, in different contexts. At work, I am task oriented, very focused, but also interested in keeping the atmosphere as a whole light and productive. I do not shy away from conflict, in fact sometimes incite it in order to get to the bottom of an issue and move forward. In my downtime, I am super withdrawn, as I cherish total silence and quiet time in my environment, engage in LOTS of meditation, yoga, self work, cleansing, nurturing my soul and environment through efficiency and aesthetics, and taking long walks. At this time, I very much feel like a 9w8 but I am open to any thoughts on this. :) Also, I do not struggle with anger, from my point of view, but I am super comfortable feeling it and letting it out, whether in the moment, or after the fact to a partner. I am working on containing it so as not to alienate others, but I have been working on that since my early twenties. Betrayal and vulnerability are my most tender places and most difficult themes for me to deal with in relationships.

Hey Amy, Does sound more like 9w8 than solid 8 or a 3, but that's just based on what you'd written here. If you ever want to confirm, I offer Skype consultations and would love to talk over the nuances with you. Thanks so much for watching and chiming in! :)

Is it possible to be of both wings? lol bc justice is BIG for me like for 9w1, yet I can be super untrusting like a 9w8. haha is that possible?
@EnneagramGirl
@EnneagramGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Sure it’s possible, but the more probable alternative lies with instincts- have you considered instincts? SP (self preservation) 9w1 is a possibility based on what you are describing. Also remember that 9 disintegrates to 6, so under stress they tend to be skeptical people.😏
