It's always the old constant: "Follow the money". A bunch of conspiracy theorists do it for the money. I personally used to debate flat earther a lot when I was on Twitter and I realize I could also make this stuff up and probably make a nice income for myself spreading lies to those people that want to believe the earth is flat. Obviously it's much harder to do when you have a conscience and a sense of morality. But the bottom line is, so many people out there are just dying to give you money so you can tell them lies, it's a low hanging fruit really.
